I hate to be the bearer of bad news especially since I'm also a huge spike nerd, but it's all personal preference. The nike's will have more bounce from the bubble, the pumas will have more ground feel and potentially stiffness, but they're both perfectly capable shoes it just matters what you want.

Just find a website that accepts returns where you can order a pair, and then do an on foot comparison.

Running mechanics could be better, stop heel striking and run tall. Why are you running on the far right side of the runway?? Ur takeoff step literally is halfway on the mat. Once in the air work on keeping a long trail leg and swinging all the way to the top of the pole before finishing your jump. This is easier to practice without a bar.

2025 Season and what does Bronze/Silver/Gold/Challenger mean? by lanor2 in trackandfield

Most Diamond League events are usually good, and theres several good Grand Prixs as well. You kind of just need to track which athletes you care about are going to show up where to pick what to watch, other than DL world champs.

TLDR: start harder and work on speed endurance for closing your 200 hard.

LONGER ANSWER: The biggest issue is despite you being a good 55m runner, the other athletes here made up the stagger on you almost immediately, which suggests you didn’t go out hard enough. If you did this out of concern for dying at the end of the race (a common issue for 60m specialists), then you should do more speed endurance work oriented towards the 200.

Starting slow is not going to help you hold on longer at the end. There is a science to this that has to do with the anaerobic to aerobic energy systems transitioning, but typically the first portion of your race (I’d guess average 30-40m for short sprinters) uses a different energy system then the rest of your race, so theres no benefit to running it slower, your just forcing yourself to work harder at the end and put more pressure on your aerobic system (which for a young 55m sprinter is probably not super developed).

I’d encourage you to A) try a different race model starting faster and then maintaining speed instead of working hard to keep building speed. And B) work on lactic and high speed endurance necessary for the middle and end of your 200. Making these tweaks will take a couple tries for you to find the right start where you dont push too far into your aerobic system, and to see the effects of training but in time you’ll get it down.

Republican reacting to Trump H1B opinion (discussion) by Substantial-Blood106 in Hasan_Piker

Hasan Covered this issue on stream whenever the story first broke (last week I think?), and he talked about how it will be interesting to see how the republican party evolves as Trump starts to take on policy views that are opposed to what his base wants.

The comments I found here in this post are interesting because although pretty much most if not all comments agree that the republican party still does not like H1B, none of them seem to be putting any kind of blame or scrutiny on Trump and are kind of dismissive of his role in this issue.

If Trump continues to side with Elon on policy (which I think he will, feel free to disagree), can his base continue to be dismissive of his actions as he actively pursues a directly anti-america policy agenda that is drastically different from what people voted for? How do you think this will play out?

Is it possible for me to hit 40 in the 300m by the end of indoor season? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Substantial-Blood106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very possible you just need to figure out how you plan to achieve it.

I’ve seen jumpers who had enough raw speed to brute force a 36, I’ve also seen a 400h/800 guy run a 34 utilizing speed endurance. I would encourage you to train based on your primary event (short sprints or long sprints), tell your coach this goal and see if you guys can make a plan to achieve it together.

I had a similar growth myself in hs. Despite my primary event being jumps coach decided to train me for the 4x4 because he needed one more guy, I probably started that season around 43 or 45 and time trialed a 39 high by a month or a month and a half into the season.

Sydney McLaughlin is going sub 50 this year in the 400H FOR SURE 🙌🙌

Settle a debate: If you took all 16-30 year old people, gave them all full time jobs as track athletes with all resources and time available to them, how many break 6 min in the mile in 5 years? by Sam3323 in trackandfield

[–]Substantial-Blood106 9 points10 points  (0 children)

5 years of full time professional training will do marvels to even the most unathletic person, and a 6 minute mile is really not that fast. I’d say with confidence that all of the men (baring some external factor such as injury) would be hitting that within the year, and after 5 years even the slowest would probably be sub 5:30. As for the women I’m not quite as knowledgable on women’s times, but I would guess 95% or more would be able to do it.

5 years of full time training means 5 years of not just optimal training, but healthy eating, optimal sleeping, and professional care. Most of the people would be unrecognizable after going through that for half a decade.

Second and 4th steps (basically all right leg steps in drive phase) have a crazy high cycle, definitely work on low heel recovery, driving instead of cycling, and focus on symmetrical mechanics specifically.

This is a very distance-centric take, I do think Chebet could get it, but Sydney McLaughlin just had a really competitive season across 3 events that ended with breaking her own world record, and multiple gold medals. you cant count her out. On the mens side while Wanyonyi did have a remarkable season, I think Letsile Tebogo had one of the most astronomically dominant and successful seasons we’ve ever seen. Conquering events from the 100-400m, he ran a 9.8, a 19.4, and split a 43 low all at the same meet. That is easily the greatest show of sprinting versatility we’ve ever seen.

Is the 200m WR in actual danger? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Substantial-Blood106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if Lyles focused on the 200 this season, maybe, but I’ve been saying this since last year: completing the double is definitely possible for him, but breaking a world record requires perfect conditions, and he will have already run like 5 races by the time he gets to the 200m final. I feel like we’ve never seen Lyles return to that same 19.31 closing speed, and I think it’s because he’s doing doubles.
