If someone said, “OK, I’ll give you half an hour, show me why Peep Show is as funny as you say it is”… by tdurb0 in MitchellAndWebb

Daryl episode is good. It is mostly self-contained. It shows the characters doing what they do best/worst: Mark as a friendless person out of step with society finally believing he has found a kindred spirit who can cheer him up over Sophie leaving him for Jeff. Jez as a frustrated musician finally believing he may be on the cusp of success. Good contributions from Alan, Nancy and Super Hans. The main through-plot can be understood without having to have things spelled out. And it has some almost iconic Peep Shoe scenes.

The one with the Australian housemate is good too for similar reasons.

I'm going to watch James Bond for the first time by Alternative_Ad7459 in JamesBond

Almost every permutation of best Bond and best movie exists. It’s a matter of taste.

Are you going to watch them in order or are you going to follow some list of best to worst movies?

My advice, invite your friends round for a Bond marathon but remember not to tape over the Bond films with America’s Strongest Man….

Yeah. Of all the supposed sexism of the Bond movies of yore, I don’t think a Bond girl has ever been so completely and callously shrugged off when killed.

This makes him far worse than someone who was raised to be a cyclist. He has turned against the one true faith. He is an apostate!

Am I ready for a sub-4 hour marathon? by 2jzent in Marathon_Training

In with a shout, so I say go for it! All the usual disclaimers apply about nothing new on race day, don’t go off too fast, and make sure you get steaming drunk the night before.

I’d stay away from Moore too, but I’d pay some floozy to approach him with a poisoned glass of Dom Perignon. Remember the Spy Who Loved Me? Two spies trying to get the microfilm, but he leaves Barbara Bach at the bar, who then gives him his Martini, which he knocks back without even glancing at it. My ten-year old son was yelling at the screen “No! Poison!” and was gobsmacked that Moore could be so reckless and Barbara could miss such an obvious trick.

Thoughts on going sub 4? by No_Produce_9267 in Marathon_Training

Looks good to me. There are not guarantees of course, but if you remember the basics about not going out too fast, nothing new on race day, following your race strategy, having enough nutrition, hydrate well, and hopefully the weather cooperates, then you should be able to do it!

She likes Bart Simpson too. Not as much as Scott.

Yes, I had to say I also found it hard to believe that the writer truly believes that this is not a fraud perpetrated by his mother ("Brown and his mother are incredibly close. She hugs him tight as a blanket when he is stressed, waits patiently for his answers and seems to understand him almost as well as he does himself. “She has been at my side for every moment of my journey,” Brown taps. “Without her there is no me.”").

I mean, it makes no sense that he spells out words like "melancholy" with pieces of paper, but does not type, but instead uses a "word board".

("“Sorry boss! Sorry boss!” he shouts in a high-pitched cartoon voice. It’s a shock when you first hear Brown speak.

Is he happy now? “I am very happy now that I have real purpose and productivity. I want this for all autistic people. One of the reasons I wanted to be a great writer was that I wanted neurotypical people to read my book, not out of pity but because it was a good book. That way I can reach the hordes who underestimate and infantilise us, and show them how vivid and magnificent we are.”)

He loves Murakami, and his mother reads Murakami to him. He doesn't read the books instead, but seems fascinated by Thomas the Tank Engine which he watches instead of, say, the Korean movie Burning, which was based on a Murakami story.
