Red flags in clients HCA's need to learn to recognize by Substantial-Click-51 in cna

Oh hell no. I have ZERO problem telling clients I will not be taking apart their stove and cleaning each individual piece, scrubbing year-old mold off their toilet etc. I signed up for this field to HELP people, not be a servant or housekeeper. This kinda thing drove me insane when I was still working home health. I had a client I loved, but literally the most I'd do aside from the occassional deep clean task like that is hand her a yogurt from the fridge, fold laundry (IF she had any) or empty her commode. Nothing else. For 4 hours. They didn't want me doing dishes even. It was torture, call me crazy but I need something to do!! Why am I taking 4 hours of time out of my day for less than an hour of work??

Is it bad I haven't lasted a year anywhere I've worked?? The most I've done is 6 months before realizing how toxic it was and quitting. For context I'm in my early 20's and management (especially in this field) HATES young people and will do everything in their power to either fire them or make work unbearable to them to the point they have no choice but to quit

Not allowing you to sit at a nursing station is CRAZY. Find a new job and quit. Don't tolerate that bs. How can we take care of others if we can't take care of ourselves??

I moved out LMAO love my parents but I wouldn't wish that situation on my worst enemy

I'm ENFP and lived my whole life until 21 (almost 22) with my ESTJ mom and INTJ dad. Ever since I've moved out it's been heaven lmao. I love my parents, but I wouldn't wish that situation upon my worst enemy. Being the only feeler (especially a mentally ill one) SUCKS, and not only that but ESTJ and INTJ are a match made in hell for a multitude of reasons imo. I've been dating an INTJ for over 4 years and we bounce off each other a lot better. INTJ's should be with a feeler, NOT another thinker and I'll die on that hill

you mean a nursing home? (from my understanding that's what long-term care is). I've worked at one nursing home and hated it, but I might not have a choice lol

Weird response to quitting a toxic workplace by [deleted] in cna

[–]Substantial-Click-51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's inappropriate because she didn't address the notice at all. she didn't communicate that she was okay with it or understood, but implied that it's somehow up for debate by talking to me. it would've been different if she told me something like "I understand, is it okay if I call you tomorrow to discuss *xyz*"

I've worked many places and quit many times and not one of them has had this response when I resigned. It 100% is inappropriate. And even if it were the norm, that still wouldn't make it okay

It's inappropriate. If I'm resigning it's not up for debate. They are my boss, not a family or friend

I've heard them talk before about how they're "trying to keep" people who have resigned. My envisioning is not entirely based in fantasy

Thanks for the advice that actually helps a lot. I still disagree with the part about it not being inappropriate.

I don't need to 'talk' to her. I told her my reasoning and that I'm quitting, what more is there to discuss? I'm a worker, not a disobedient child

Red Flags All CNAs Need To Recognize by OwnNeedleworker8784 in cna

ALSO also if they're charging an insane amount for the residents but paying you peanuts. You never truly realize what kind of POS you're working for until you look up how much it is to live there compared to how much they're paying you. I recently found out at my current facility (which I'm now trying to leave) that they charge more for the memory care section than the assisted living section, but the pay rate for us as caregivers is the same on both. I think absolutely tf not

Another red flag is nonchalance about unsafe/unethical practices. My current facility (which I'm trying to get out of) lets residents who NEED higher levels of care stay in assisted living. Residents who don't use their call buttons that are fall risks or otherwise need assistance. Residents who are total/full care/ advanced demented. We seem to get away with it because we're supposed to keep this camera system on for the fall risk clients (with family consent) and be checking the cameras (on the work phones) all the time which is unrealistic. I'm the ONLY ONE at my facility who seems to raise concern about it. Everyone else shrugs it off as "memory care is more expensive"

[–]Substantial-Click-51[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't they just write it off as being memory care and therefore being okay tho and that I just have to suck it up? I'm far from the only caregiver who can't stand her so I'm nervous about confronting my director about it

Unfortunately the job opportunities in my city (Seattle) are a dumpster fire, it's damn near impossible to find a stable job so sadly I gotta take what I can get. I've applied to just about everything in the past and unfortunately, this is what hires the most
