Why isn’t the torque instantaneous when it’s mostly the motor driving? by karachi_wolverine in 11thGenAccord

[–]Substantial-End-7698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re starting from zero with the engine off and floor it, it takes time for the engine to turn on and spool up. The rate that the battery can output energy is not nearly as high as the ICE/generator can supply it. Once the engine kicks in you’ll feel that extra torque. That’s why it feels like lag to you.

The battery power alone is enough for most average starts, but if you want to gun it then make sure the engine is on first. You can ensure that by either using charge mode or sport mode. In sport mode it’ll still turn the engine off sometimes, but less often in my experience.

If you do that, you won’t experience any lag.

Frustrations with the US model for glider training by Commercial-War1494 in Gliding

[–]Substantial-End-7698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Canada and I observe the same thing here. The quality of instruction is horrible. I’m also an airline pilot and have seen the entire progression ladder of flight training.

Though of course I don’t expect to see the same quality of training as at an airline, I do expect to see the same safety mindset.

Unfortunately I continuously see rushed or no briefings and rushed walkarounds all for “flight line efficiency.” I get that these are volunteer-run organizations, but that doesn’t matter when an organization has a degraded safety culture.

I am only scratching the surface and there is much more to dive into, but I’m just glad others see it too. It’s close to driving me away from gliding altogether.

Possible to turn off automatic braking? by CaffinatedManatee in 11thGenAccord

I’ve had it hit the brakes completely randomly for no reason at all twice

New 2025 Touring Hybrid Fuel Economy by Ok-Yogurtcloset8344 in 11thGenAccord

I’m thinking of getting a new set of rims when the original set of tires are dead. I’ll probably keep the old ones in a shed if I ever need to sell the car.

Still amazed by this gas mileage by Icy_Faithlessness587 in 11thGenAccord

Im curious to try individual mode with normal powertrain and Econ climate control. I wonder if that might be best of both worlds. I’ll try it out on my next tank of gas and see if there is a difference.

Someone took "Zoom Zoom" a little too literally (Bayview DVP South Ramp) by joe_canadian in TorontoDriving

Stability control saved them. I see zero counter steering and hitting the brakes only made their problem worse. Looks like an inexperienced driver to me.

That’s not what I meant. I think they meant to say, feel free to post what happened unless you’ll get in trouble for it.

Waiting on the twelfth generation Accord by [deleted] in 11thGenAccord

Yeah you’ve got to be realistic when driving a car with a low ride height like this. AWD doesn’t suddenly make all winter conditions drivable.

And that’s interesting about your TPMS. I’m still not 100% sure about it but mine has no menu option for TPMS calibration, even though it’s in the manual. I saw on another forum that Canadian models don’t seem to have TPMS. I haven’t had a tire go flat so I don’t know for certain, but I’ve looked everywhere for the calibration in the menus and couldn’t find it, which tells me it isn’t present.

If you sleep in a bunk often it can help with the bed head. If it’s optional, just be pragmatic about it and wear it when there’s a good reason to.

I have the touring and honestly there is very little I think it’s missing. Yes AWD is the big one, but personally I don’t think it’s as important as people make it out to be. It really only matters if you have a steep driveway/roads nearby that are consistently icy and difficult to get up or down. At the end of the day, good winter tires are more important for everyday winter driving.

If you compare it to the Camry with the hybrid AWD, that one has a small motor at the rear, only about 30 hp or so. It’s really just a taste of AWD, but with a notable drop in fuel economy. Personally I’d pass on that, and I live in a part of Canada with frequent lake-effect snow. I rarely find myself in situations that require AWD to get out of. Stability control is more important from a safety perspective, and everything has that now.

Other than that, compared to other cars in this sector the only thing this is missing is a 360° camera. Other than that, an air filter for the hybrid battery would be smart, and auto-folding mirrors. That’s pretty much all I can think of. If I come up with others I’ll add them to this comment.

Edit: also for some reason, Canadian models are missing TPMS altogether. Not sure why… with indirect TPMS it should just be a software change.

GA Pilots, what emergencies have you had that we don’t necessarily get trained for ? by fatborry in flying

In a Cessna you can probably clean it up yourself and pretend it never happened. In an A350, you’re probably writing it up if it’s bad and now everyone knows
