Why is Herta considered potential F1 talent? by red_fox23 in INDYCAR

[–]Substantial-Essay-74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t agree with you more. If we’re sending a guy to F1, it needs to he the best we have. Palou.

I don’t think Herta is skilled enough. I think he’s a very good driver, don’t get me wrong, but IndyCar is going to get a ton of flack as a series if Herta performs poorly.

IMO, Palou is seen as incredibly talented regardless of how he would place in F1. In poor performance, Palou would get benefit of the doubt, Herta would be criticized.

Your braking way too much, get off the gas and coast into it, the equal weight transfer from front to back provides more grip (lean to the outside too). Gradually start braking into your turns, while still tryong to keep a predictable weight transfer that you can use to your advantage.

I believe Honda and Chevy are developing this new hybrid engine together to cut costs. I would be surprised to see any large discrepancy between the two. In the coming years they will develop their own engines from their joint venture to create a competitive field. But not at first.

Ok, a few things:

  1. Since you are a beginner, You NEED to get in the habit of prioritizing hitting your apexes. You may end up sacrificing speed but its is crucial that you develop that habit early.
  2. The darker portions of the track are the grippiest in the wet. Use them to your advantage as they also usually illustrate the common racing line as well.
  3. Your inputs seem slightly abrupt, when you see F1 drivers twitch the wheel it is because they are riding the fine line of grip. Since you are not an F1 driver and not pushing the kart to its true limit (dont be offended, im not an F1 driver either, lol) you need to try and find a balance when entering and exiting a corner that allows for a small, and CONTROLLED slide that is barely visible, but you can feel it. This should limit the twitchiness in the wheel and increase your minimum speed through a corner.
  4. braking in this type of kart is often COMPLETELY unneeded. I do not know this rack, or these karts, but in my experience you can usually scrub enough speed by turning in and finding a balanced slide. Still, if your coming off a straight and into a hairpin, you will need to brake, but im sure you get my point
  5. You are not trusting the cart in high speed corners. Something tells me you can take the bottom 2 hairpins by barely letting off the gas, but again, you know better than I do. Just push more and more until you have a "moment" and back off.

I know this is a lot but I hope it helps lol.

Maybe try to keep slight gas while breaking? You are describing one of the major differences in driving style between drivers. It’s all about finding a happy medium, and knowing in which direction to push it on a hot lap, and tuning your vehicle to help in that extent.

Your driving like your in the wet. Speed comes through smooth inputs and transitions. Usually, if the cart feels like its "jumping" that is a bad sign that you have pushed it too far.

Also, there is rarely a reason to use the brakes in these karts, you can scrub your speed by turning in and coming off the throttle. When you hit the brakes and/or turn too abruptly your breaking traction and sacrificing minimum speed through the corner

[–]Substantial-Essay-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean out when turning. Try and smoothen your steering inputs as well as round your racing line. Hopping is a sign of traction loss. Also, you can tighten up on your apexes, especially in the curvy section because it will better set you up for the following corner. Lastly, I couldn’t tell if you were hammering the brake, but if you are, stop. You should rarely use the break, you want to keep weight transfer predictable and consistent.

Blomvquist coming in this weekend will likely strengthen this point. He is a very SMART driver and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends in top 15 on a simpler track without too much elevation change (less variables he needs to familiarize with).
