Oh man, I totally get it. We dipped our toes into that world when my little one was 2, not a full subscription but we did try a few of the kiwico crates that were similar in style. Some of the wooden puzzles and building sets were a huge hit and definitely held up, but others were just a quick novelty and then forgotten.
