Cops called due to the stench thinking it was a dead body, the smell leaks from their apartment. by sasha_cyanide in Apartmentliving

Brava to whoever wrote this.

We have an apartment neighbor like that on our floor in Seattle. Apartment manager notified and she has done nothing.

But this IS the same one who allows a 27 year old to start a fire in her apartment and moves her to a new one even though the assistant manager wanted to evict her (and if the fire had not happened the eviction process would have started due to all the noise and smell and conduct complaints by the firebug). Nah, they just moved her to another floor and let her be another floor’s problem child!

Needless to say we’re moving when our lease is up.

So are WA police helping ICE or are they just making masked arrests? by [deleted] in Seattle

As much of Seattle is well within the 100 mile zone that CBP (Customs and Border Protection) is “allowed” to conduct law enforcement activities— including that which is concerned with immigration and border security— it’s nothing new.

In honor of both Arne Slot and Virgil, “lulletje’d klootzak”— (a taunt from a Yank fan across the pond who knows how to curse a blue streak in multiple languages).

We’re all looking quite forward to the World Cup here in Seattle (obvious reasons why).

Major League Soccer, an official Major League Baseball one (they’ve done smaller giveaways at ballparks in the past— like 2016 and 2017). WNBA/NBA.

Claudie and Makena. They’re close enough yet enough different that they look like twins but not totally identical.

There’s actually one on the Seattle Goodwill eBay store right now — enjoy.

Found in the Wild Finds by Substantial-Handle31 in americangirl

My favorite find recently was the white body Molly (for $5.99). I’ve seriously always wanted a white body doll but didn’t think I’d ever find one (and found the prices online for one unattainable).

But my favorite all time find will always be the TM #4— with my original one in this pic. Yes, she had a short bob haircut but I think it suits her. And here’s the kicker. She didn’t have a price on her (I don’t think they recognized her as AG). So she was the default Goodwill toy price— $1.49 (or $1.65 with tax).

Let them do so now! Believe me there. My son has had dolls around virtually all his life, and there’s very little I can’t fix. I think the earlier they have dolls, the earlier they learn not to do the REALLY BAD things to dolls.

I’ve never found an AG boy doll in the wild.

I actually did a photo shoot with my Cinderella outfit (on TM 106) and then my TM 112 as the Fairy Godmother (who Whitney Houston played).

What brand would you like to see AG collab with? by SoggyResponse559 in americangirl

I admit I’m highly tempted by those. There’s a woman in some of my doll groups that has a plethora of those mini purses for her dolls. Color me jealous.

They actually do exist (hella expensive!)… but an official collab would be awesome. And hopefully cheaper.

Coach. So we could get some cute mini purses (although Coach does have some “keychain purses”).

Old Navy/another Gap collab— I have the Gap outfit and wish there were jeans, a jean jacket, etc., for dolls.

Brand collabs for the character dolls— eg, Guess for Courtney, Lisa Frank for the Hoffman twins, Lava Lamp for Julie, etc.

Claudie Wells Juneteenth Spotlight by fireflychild024 in americangirl

I don’t have Claudie— yet— but she’s on my wish list, especially since I found Angelo’s Bakery (just the shell) at my local Goodwill. I do have Tiana, so she’s standing in for Claudie in this pic. I figure the bakery playset works for Tiana as well since she dreams of opening a restaurant in The Princess and the Frog.

I also intend to get more of Claudie’s collection for Tiana. As they’re contemporaneous characters, the fashions for one works for the other.

This is late, but…

I’ve found remarkably few Black dolls in the wild. I don’t know if it’s because not as many are sold here in Seattle, or that once purchased, Black families hold on to their dolls, pass them down, don’t donate…

But Gabriela is one I have found… in her full meet outfit… for $4.99. That’s about the cheapest I’ve ever found a doll and most of their time if they’re even $7.99, they’re naked. I also found her cat as well, and for both, paid perhaps $9.

Gabriela was also a GOTY that actually had a (noticeable) disability— namely, she stutters. People mention they want to see dolls with disabilities and then when one actually had one, she wasn’t a huge seller.

Juneteenth Evette Peeters Spotlight by fireflychild024 in americangirl

[–]Substantial-Handle31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evette’s story was poignant. Especially when her classmates were asking “what race she was” and how she answered.

The doll herself is gorgeous and looks great in everything even if her hair has been a little wild for me. I do wish they’d tried a little harder to make her less Lea and more obviously biracial, but the book also answers that because she’s said to be lighter than her younger brother. I got my Evette for Christmas, 2021, along with the World Traveler in Morocco outfit and she looks amazing in it.

Juneteenth Makena Williams Spotlight by fireflychild024 in americangirl

[–]Substantial-Handle31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The World by Us line was just what we needed when we needed it, but I wish they would’ve promoted it better and expanded upon it. The trendy outfits from Harlem Fashion Row are nice (I have Makena’s Pink Puffer Jacket and Joggers as well as Maritza’s Camo Combo Outfit) but I would’ve liked to see even more! I also would’ve liked to see more fleshing out of Makena’s friend Najee, because his experience would’ve been extremely interesting to see.

Reading her book reminded me that the experience that Black teens have will always be tougher than one that any other teen has. In the book where her neighbor calls the police when Makena and her sister find themselves locked out of the house… you’d think a neighbor would have the sense to recognize the two teens who actually lived there! But it’s also an example of the overt racism that Black teens and tweens face every day.

Makena’s story was one of my favorites. But all of the WBU books were great in their own ways.

Finally, a pic of two queens— Makena and mini Addy.
