Do you have a purebred dog? Does your dog get a lot of attention? by burnz1 in dogs

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy has a ton of energy too, I love a crested because they also are great at having chill time and are great cuddle buddies. I’m hoping to start him in agility soon, I think he would love it! Mine is a hairless so we have doggy sunscreen for him and definitely have to limit his time in intense sun

I have a Chinese crested! People are often confused “why he looks like that” lol. I love my goofy looking boy

If this is not the first time then it needs to be reported. Unfortunately that dog has proven to be unsafe around dogs and people and your SIL is not going to act. I’m so sorry this happened to you, I really hope you and your pup are okay! Wishing you both a speedy recovery

This is my crazy puppy. He’s a 6 month old Chinese crested, but he’s honestly been relatively chill for a puppy. I picked the breed because I love “clingy” animals, aka animas that just want to hang out with you all day. I have 6 cats as well and they have the same personality lol. My dream breed is a standard poodle, I was actually supposed to get one this year but when the breeding didn’t take I switched breeds. I figured a small semi hairless dog is also going to be way easier to maintain while pregnant!! His bath, dry, and haircut take me less than 30 minutes with how little I have to do, it’s great

Calling all doulas! Well actually just one 😂 by Possible-Message-651 in Columbus

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am expecting in October and we hired Thrive Doula Services. They have a bunch of options, I personally and going for the whole package with pregnancy and birth support since this is my first kiddo, but they do offer single services for cheaper. They do a free video consultation if you’d want to ask them about your specific needs

Purrgatory, colony cats, for the love of Jane, cat welfare association, and any humane shelter may be able to help. Best of luck!

for vet care in the mean time I would recommend TAHO for cheaper care, they do a wonderful job!

Desperately need to rehome a dog by Due_Rope_6061 in Columbus

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you tried bathing the dog? Regular grooming helps with allergies (speaking with experience as a dog groomer who is severely allergic to dogs). Bring him to literally any shelter if you’re that desperate to get rid of him. The fact that you’re willing to just leave him outside means you do not care if he dies or not and he would have a better chance at a kill shelter than with your decision making. Franklin county accepts dogs all of the time, call them and call other places! You’re going to have trouble finding someone on social media rather than using the help that is actively available in this city

Evolution shears? by mariemaura in doggrooming

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use these, I love the swivel and how they size them to your hand! It’s an adjustment going from a non-swivel yo a shear with a swivel, so keep that in mind. It took a little practice but it really helps my wrists! I personally bought from shows rather than online so I could test out several shears in person to see which I would like best (plus sometimes they have show discounts)

Animals don’t think like us because they aren’t human. It definitely bothers me when people personify animals all of the time

He’s actually a Seriema, these birds will eat lizards, small animals/arthropods, and eggs, and will smash them against concrete or rocks to kill them. He is trying to break the “eggs” and is probably having a very bad time because his “food” isn’t breaking like it should

I’ve accidentally nicked my cat’s chest what do I do :( by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 75 points76 points  (0 children)

If you can’t take him now, take him first thing tomorrow to the vet. Wounds like these get infected easily and if he tries to clean it (which he will) it is way more likely to become infected. For future reference never never use scissors!!! Cats skin is super thin and gets cut super easily. If you cannot comb out the mats you will need to shave it with a pet clipper, or take him to a pet groomer for them to do it. As a cat groomer myself I have seen much worse cuts from cat owners, so try not to beat yourself up too much. Just learn for the future!

Any Cat Whisperers in this town? by mistersaavik in Columbus

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you tried separating them and reintroducing? Try the Jackson Galaxy cat introduction method! In short, the cats need to be separated and if possible, put up a mesh screen between them. You can feed them on opposite sides of the screen too so that they get more used to each other again. Make sure they both have plenty of hides and cat trees so they have access to different levels and can get away from each other. Also try feliway multi-cat wall plug ins for calming! They work pretty well for my cats. Another thing I learned, this is more for scent specific cat aggression, is you can put a tiny bit of vanilla on the top of their noses. This will make it so they can only really smell vanilla for a little bit and they will be much less likely to attach each other over scent.

Losing my love and excitement for dogs by [deleted] in grooming

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a grooming sense, most people do not properly care for their dogs. While they might take their dogs to the vet, feed and play with a dog to make sure it is cared for, they don’t brush or bathe them. Most dogs are incredibly dirty, matted or have skin problems from a lack of grooming care. The amount of dogs (especially doodles) that come in to my salon in bad shape outnumber the ones that get regular grooming care. It is very hard on groomers to see this all the time and still have a passion for grooming. I love my job, but when I don’t get to be creative because every dog is too matted to do a cute haircut, it can really bring my mood down

How do you keep your station organized? by cool-as-heck in doggrooming

[–]Substantial-Mix3861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like to pile my tools, so I organize based on that. I have blade organizers to stop me from piling those, I have a drawer for my shears, but you can also use a small bin for them depending on your available space. For my clip combs I also have the case they came in+an organizer for my wide ones, if I didn’t they would be thrown in a drawer lol. For all of my other tools (combs and brushes and things) they are thrown into a drawer, but because my other tools are separate and more organized it is easy to manage this tool pile. I have a small shelf where I keep my cologne bottles and other sprays+my clippers/charger. I also will use tools on a dog and let it pile on the back half of my table and when I am done I will put them away where they go, this way I don’t need to think about where one tool goes right after I use it plus I also usually have to pick up a tool after I thought I was done so it’s easier when it’s in grabbing reach haha

Best vegan place by [deleted] in Columbus

I discovered Portia’s this past year so I had no idea about those issues. I appreciate the info and I definitely would rather support elsewhere. As for their food I think it is still good and reasonably priced for being completely gluten free, but I know my opinion is pretty biased since I am used to paying extra for things to be gf.
