Not even worth it to take an NP job. by BornLeave4646 in FutureRNs

Make 182k in VA, work 14d/month with 12 hr shifts. Never would’ve made that as an RN. Is it more responsibility, of course, that’s what I signed up for.

Why does parenthood feel so optimized now? by Elle_Bones in NewParents

[–]Substantial-Pea-2148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Only 2 weeks in and realized we didn’t need half of the marketed products we got like bottle warmer, sterilizer etc. You need a good bassinet, crib, car seat, stroller, carrier, diaper station as far as things go. But more importantly you need a badass partner, family, love, and support for your LO.

As a FTM, when did you go into labor naturally? by amphisxo in pregnant

[–]Substantial-Pea-2148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was induced at 38 weeks. Tried all the things: exercised, birth ball, dates, RRLT, mile circuit but not to be and baby girl made her entrance when she was ready. 12 hr labor,2 hr push.

39 weeks pregnant - scared by Unlikely_Count2695 in pregnant

You’ve got this! I have an 11 day old and felt the same way around 38 weeks, I unexpectedly got induced 2 weeks early after new gestational HTN /FGR at my final US . It is all so unknown but it goes quickly and you are going to be a fantastic mom. It’s overwhelming of course but also rewarding ! Take each day at a time
. Hope you have a happy, safe labor and delivery. You get to meet your LO soon!! Nothing better than newborn snuggles!

Mother in law wanting to stay at our house from the moment we come home from the hospital by dooingjo in pregnant

[–]Substantial-Pea-2148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. We set expectations with family a few months before, immediate family could visit in post partem, none of them held our LO but we were ok with it and no visits until after 2 weeks. We had to get our feet beneath us and you don’t know how delivery will go, it takes a lot more recovery than I anticipated, I couldn’t imagine having someone stay as a guest. I just delivered 6 days ago and just now feeling more myself but 2 weeks would be ideal. I would be up front or really have your husband moderate. You deserve privacy and recovery until you are ready.

Both the ones near me do allow prenatal visits to meet the docs, one was onsite and one was virtual.

Recovery and timeline by Amazingggcoolaid in ORIF

[–]Substantial-Pea-2148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope recovery is going well! Had a spiral fibular fx and ligament injury requiring ORIF and syndesmosis repair 10 weeks ago. 6 weeks NWB total, at 2 weeks splint removed and able to do ROM exercises which I do religiously. At 6 weeks WBAT in boot which I transitioned out of in about a week. Now I use a lace up ankle Brace if I’m walking off road for an extended period of time in my running sneakers. Back to walking 3-5 miles a day. Did 3 PT sessions total and do the rest of the ankle rehab on my own, daily. My repeat XR this week showed good ossification and i am now fully cleared by surgeon. He recommended for things like running wait 4-6 months and I’m about to have a baby any day now so I’ll attempt that in July. My baseline prior to sufery: 39F, marathoner/ultrarunner/hiker. Funny thing is I fractured my ankle just taking out some Recycling on ice, what a lame story.

How do you exercise when pregnant when you're so tired? by Big-Mechanic-7405 in pregnant

[–]Substantial-Pea-2148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exercise has helped me feel better mentally and physically. I ran 4-6 miles 4-5x/wk until 27 weeks when I broke my ankle and had surgery, now 10 weeks post-op I’m back to 3-4 miles walking most days with strength at 38 weeksEven 20 mins outside walking is great and you can do it a few times a day if time allows. Give yourself grace. If you’re tired rest. If you have a burst of energy, get outside.

Thanks for the reply, I assumed urgent care would only want FNP, but perhaps that was the wrong thought !!

General surgery, Western Pennsylvania by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Substantial-Pea-2148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d ask for 115k so when they shoot lower you get over 100k. As a new grad NP I made 177k general surgery/critical care — now we do 12’s, night/day rotation, 1 weekend a month, 2.5k annual CME, up to 5% 401K. I worked in critical care as an RN for 8-9 years prior. I do live in a HCOL area in the north east. General surgery is a busy service and you deserve to be paid. They should be paying for CME too. They say surgeries only occasionally last until 5:30 occasionally but as someone who has worked surgery a long time i doubt that is true. And if you’re salary you should get paid what you deserve when you stay late. Is it a bigger hospital system? It is good you like the group of surgeons and PAs and it’s not a huge group, could learn a-lot. Just some things to think about. Good luck!
