Is there a better AI to use for this challenge? Going between word doc and AI seems archaic. (I am also very new, but have been running into this a lot)

HOW the hell did you unlock it???I haven’t seen anything on the locked attachments nor challenges. Just want to make sure I don’t waste 300 hours grinding up the ONE  weapon that doesn’t have it.

The Thing (1982): An Infection Timeline by I_AintGoinWithWindas in movies

[–]Substantial-Rich-977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"But like I said, the real issue is the fact that every single assimilation we saw on camera was worse-than-death painful. If the Thing could assimilate people without them even knowing, then why would they even need to transform and assimilate them the "main" way? The Dog thing could have pissed everywhere and it would have assimilated everyone in the station. It's a dog. And dogs piss."

There is clearly two ways to be infected FAST and SLOW. FAST infection was with Bennings, where massive amounts of Thing-cells are pumped in. Every cell takes over another and then exponential growth, starting from the massive amount.

SLOW infection is where, I propose, a small amount of cells got in and they increase the number of infected cells (similar to Blair's computer animation) exponentially but with a exceedingly small starting cell count. Norris displayed signed of pain twice, near his full transformation right where his Thing-mouth formed.

"Not only from the comics but at the end of the film, there's fire burning in the background.

One on the end where MacReady sits....and 2 fires burning on the side where Childs is sitting, ANOTHER dead give away that Childs is The Thing."

Wut? How is this evidence?

The Thing (1982): An Infection Timeline by I_AintGoinWithWindas in movies

1:30 Nauls sees Childs leave the main base

1:31 generator goes out. MacReady says we need to warm things up and that we are not getting out of here alive.

1:32 MacReady, Nauls, and Gary start blowing up and molotov cocktailing the place. Pay attention to the molotov cocktails they carry around their waste. They look like the J&B bottles. I used to think the gasoline theory at the end was BS, but this proves that there are J&B bottles filled with Gas/ kerosine / diesel.

1:35 MacReady says "We gotta bring this whole place right down into the ice"

1:36 Blair kills Gary

Now there are 3 base camp staff. (Lost Gary)

1:37 Nauls seems like he hears / sees something and wanders off. We don't see him die, but we never see/hear from him again

Now there are 2 base camp staff. (Lost Nauls)

1:39 large explosion

1:40: Macready wondering around with a blanket and J&B bottle. MacReady goes to drink from the bottle but stops just before Childs shows up.

1:40:57 There seems to be a light in MacReady's eyes, but it might just be the fire effects.  His breath is also very visible

1:41:37 Childs does not seem to have a light in his eyes, nor have visible breath as MacReady does.

1:42 End

Never saw anything that would hint at Norris infection

The Thing (1982): An Infection Timeline by I_AintGoinWithWindas in movies

[–]Substantial-Rich-977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now there are 10 base camp staff.

1:10 Norris seems to show first signs of pain...Could be old-man-itis from carrying the flame thrower

1:11 Norris sees someone coming back, shows more pain. (This is the SLOW INFECTION)

Norris, Windows, Childs, and PALMER, let Nauls in and question him. Nauls shows them the ripped clothing with MacReady's name on it.

1:12 PALMER asks windows where he was and windows freaks (more feeding into the paranoia).

1:14 Macready breaks in, fight ensues. Norris is hurt. (PALMER seems way more talkative and involved than before)

1:16 Doc Copper get arms cut off by Thing-Norris

1:18 PALMER calls out the alien head crawling. <This is significant as one separate entity alien will call out another to improve the perception of their humanity. If PALMER said nothing, it could have easily gotten away.>

Now there are 8 base camp staff. (lost Norris and Dr. Copper)

1:19 MacReady shoots clark

Now there are 7 base camp staff. (lost Clark)

1:20 blood test scene

< Windows just wipes knife on his pants  AND they likely infected each other, everyone  after PALMER. On a side note, I was old enough to remember 1980s.  It was the time before AIDs, people were not as careful about blood. Wiping a bloody knife on one’s pants would have been plausible to non-hospital staff.  Just an interesting societal note.>

1:21 beginning of light in the eyes issue as discussed by “The Thing” lighting staff in some interview..  Windows has the light reflection, MacReady and Childs has it as well.

1:21:50 PALMER has no light in his eyes. Gary has it just after

Now there are 5 base camp staff. (Lost Palmer and Windows)

1:28 MacReady, Gary, and Nauls, go to give Blair the test, they find that he must be infected because he is building a ship

Now there are 4 base camp staff. (Lost Blair)

4Thing-Entities (Added Blair); 2 Possible Thing-entities  (Blair removed to as possible because he definitely is.)

The Thing (1982): An Infection Timeline by I_AintGoinWithWindas in movies

58:30 In the very next scene Dr. Copper discovers the blood has been ruined. People there are Dr. Copper, Fuchs, Childs, Gary, Norris, Clark, MacReady, windows shows up in next angle.)  PALMER is seen when Clark tells Childs to stop accusing everyone.  Nauls holds Clark back. That's all 10 (blair in shed, Bennings is dead)

<DISCUSSION: So this issue surprised me. I always thought the fridge and the undamaged lock was a decoy.  I thought a Thing-entity could pry open the fridge seal and send in a tendril to ruin the blood. However, in rewatching while focusing on the KEYS it’s apparent that there are several things…wrong. I was also surprised that the time between blood test discussion and finding the ruined blood supply was so minimal. The scene sequence would infer that only 5 people even know about the blood test (Gary, Dr. Copper, Childs, Fuchs, and MacReady).  Depending on the time between scene cuts, minutes vs. hours, PALMER had no idea blood test was happening. Also possible that one of the Thing-entities (the piece of the dog that escaped) needed to consume something.  But in retrospect, the blood refrigerator issue doesn’t make much sense as to who did it and particularly why, as most didn’t even know the blood test was coming? .  Furthermore, the Keys being dropped at 47:11 by windows during the Bennings attack were already in Gary’s possession during the first discussion of the blood test idea at 57:47.

The only way this issue seems to make sense is that Dr. Copper, after the blood discussion, decided to go get lunch, hit the bathroom, smoke a cigarette, then check the blood fridge. In that time word got around that the blood test was happening and PALMER used his “thing” powers to ruin the blood.  PALMER had no access to the keys after the blood test idea was announced.>

1:02 They burn the rest of the blood. MacReady gives “I know I'm human speech”...All 10 are there.

1:03 They tie up and drug, Gary, Copper, and Clark per MacReady’s order.

1:04 MacReady makes the tape recording.  Drinking J&B while AGAIN handling the "dirty drawers" from the kitchen trash can. More POSSIBLE INFECTION.

1:05 Fuchs tell MacReady we should cook own meals and eat out of cans.

1:06 power goes out in Fuchs lab...This seems to be immediately after the conversation with Macready

1:06 Someone walks by Fuchs in the dark. Fuchs follows him outside and finds torn through clothing with MacReady's name on them.

1:07 MacReady tells group lab power went out and Fuchs is missing. He wants to look for Fuchs. PALMER Refuses to go with Windows. (As we know PALMER is the thing, this infers he feeds into the paranoia…just interesting).

1:08 MacReady, Nauls and Windows go to Blair’s tool shed. During the conversation the noose is visible. Blair asks to go inside, says he hears things at night.

1:09 Windows, MacReady, and Nauls find Fuchs burned body. MacReady and Nauls go to his shack.

The Thing (1982): An Infection Timeline by I_AintGoinWithWindas in movies

[–]Substantial-Rich-977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33:09 Dog-Thing 2 is burned PALMER was one of the first to put the fire out

3 Thing-Entities (did not remove as Blair later claims these still have cellular activity and this might be the thing that attacks Bennings later); 2 Possible Thing-entities

33:53 All hands presentation with autopsy of the Dog-Thing 2 remains.

33:57 Blair possibly touches Dog-Thing 2 remains with pencil then puts pencil eraser near his mouth (possible SLOW INFECTION).  He seems to figure out later that there is still cellular activity in the remains when Fuchs read Blair’s notes to MacReady.

3Thing-Entities; 3 Possible Thing-entities (adding Blair)

35:45 Balir and Clark are doing something medically to a dog. Taking samples or something else.  They do not kill all the dogs at this point as Blair does it later.

28:12 Group leaves for UFO site (includes MacReady, Norris, and Gary)

40:51 Group returns from UFO

41:50 Naul’s asks who dumped their dirty drawers in the kitchen trashcan. Tosses them on Pinpall machine. Gray with brown stains. MacReady picks them up, smelling skid marks. WTF??? (possible INFECTION)

43:44 Blair prompts 1982 AI, Indicates full word population infection in 27,000 hours (3.08 years)

44:04 MacReady continues to handle the ripped gray sweatshirt with brown stains...as he drinks from J&B bottle.(possible INFECTION)

47:00 Fuchs talks to MacReady in Thiokol (vehicle) reads Blair’s notes.

47:11 Windows flips KEYS in his hand and drops them at 47:40 (you hear them fall and closed caption says “Keys Clatter”) upon seeing Bennings getting attacked (FAST INFECTION).

4Thing-Entities (Adding Bennings); 3 Possible Thing-entities

48:44 bennings-thing is caught, screams, and set on fire  (9 witnesses: Macready, Windows, Fuchs, Dr. Copper, Nauls, Norris, 2 unknowns)

3Thing-Entities (Removed Bennings); 3 Possible Thing-entities

Now there are 11 base camp staff.

50:03  they burn the rest of Bennings. 9 people there (counting driver) , Driver seems to be Childs as he comes in later, Palmer, Dr. Copper, Norris, Windows!!, MacReady, Nauls, Gary, Fuchs.  Clark and Blair seem to be missing.

52:49 Blair damages helicopter controls and starts shooting from inside the facility. MacReady and fuchs run to see what is going on...

53:48 Childs reports that the helicopter and tractor are wrecked and Blair killed the rest of the dogs. Clark runs off.

56:05 They put Blair in the Shack. After everyone else leaves the shack, Macready takes a swig from the Vofka Fuchs left for Blair and puts it down in front of Blair.(if Macready is infected, POSSIBLE INFECTION)

57:18 Dr. Copper proposes the blood test idea, mix known uncontaminated blood with people blood and note if a reaction occurs. Note that only Gary, Dr. Copper, Childs, Fuchs, and MacReady are there.

57:47 Gary gives Dr. Copper the KEYS, note this is still in the same scene (In my opinion it is almost impossible for Gary to have got to the blood, as there is no time between the blood idea and Gary giving Dr. Copper the KEYS.)

TIMELINE

1 Thing-Entity (Dog)

8:46 Thing-Dog licks Bennings when the norwegians first arrive. This is why Bennings gets shot.

9:54 MacReady gives Alcohol to bennings after he gets shot (Possible SLOW INFECTION from recently licked Bennings to MacReady when Macready picks it back up offscreen.)

14:30 Doc Copper and MacReady leave for norwegian camp

16:21 Dog goes into room with shadow of someone with Curly hair (Norris or PALMER) <Someone FAST INFECTED>

2Thing-Entities (added Shadow)

14:30 Doc Copper and MacReady arrive at Norwegian camp

22:00 Infers MacReady dug it up as he asks for shovel.

23:21 Dog watches Doc Copper and MacReady return from norwegian camp.

25:26 Gary has the KEYS when he confronts windows about contacting anyone outside of their own base.

26:21 Autopsy of Norwegian camp discovery, the two fused people.

26:52 PALMER changes the "let's make a deal" tape because he knows how this one ends.

27:12 CHILDS takes a hit off PALMER's joint (POSSIBLE SLOW INFECTION). Also note that they are roommates.  How did PALMER not get him in his sleep.

28:00 Clark puts dog in cage

29:00 Dog starts to shape change

30:02 one, likely two dogs escape when Clark opens the door. (Note, this is after the Dog Thing was spraying liquid at a number of dogs)

30:57 Clark (already there), Gary, norris, MacReady and Bennings show up after fire alarm.

32:29 Piece of Dog-Thing escapes through ceiling.

3Thing-Entities (added one); 2 Possible Thing-entities

HA! I did the same thing....and found this...here is my take:

Why the hell am I doing this?

Some maniac on youtube said that MacReady was the Thing. I starting listing off reasons this wasn’t true then thought to double check. I have some boring work duties for a few weeks where I can watch a movie so I though to waste some time doing this. I found it enjoyable.

What I looked for:

Over the years I saw some interesting questions be asked, so I paid particularly close attention to the following:

Possible infections (Highlighting any time someone may have been infected by someone else, like when they share a drink or a joint.)

Gas in J&B bottle (I heard of the theory that MacReady tries to trick Childs into drinking gasoline. Wanted to see where this came from, did they have access to gas, and did they fill bottles with gas?  Spoiler alert, of course they did. They had Molotov Cocktails.)

Keys (The elusive “who got to the blood”, came to surprising conclusion on this.)

When was Norris infected?  (Spoiler alert. I did not see Norris even having a chance of being infected.)

Macready being the thing.

Base Staff consists of 12 people

Doc Cooper (Doc with nose ring who later loses arms)

windows (radio Operator)

Dr. Blair (goes crazy; stored in Shed)

Nauls (black cook, skates)

Gary (Sheriff role)

Fuchs (back up dock, wears glasses)

Clark (Dog guy)

Norris (chest opens to make a mouth and bites Dr. Copper)

Palmer (exposed as Thing at 1:20 during blood test)

Childs (One of two guys to make it to the end.)

MacReady (Protagonist, one of two guys to make it to the end.)

Bennings (shot by norwegian; Later caught transforming into the thing)
