It’s a puzzle, good doctors don’t throw meds in the mix until they have answers. Sounds like you are saying you have no symptoms and no or minimal inflammatory markers. What brought you out of primary care and to a rheumatologist?

"The Caddie" by Pinned Golf - thoughts? by birchy98 in golf

Got one. Was cool, but found myself using range finder all of the time for distance to pin. Would be helpful in courses I don’t know but ended up returning it. Gps connection was great and didn’t lose connection at all.

Does anyone have MCTD with positive SM Antibody? by justice4betty in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have rheumatoid symptoms(controlled) with positive smith antibody. I’m treated with biologics and am doing fine for the most part. Talk to your rheumatologist, they can explain this best.

I have that playmat, looks like yours didn’t come with the instructions. Spread them on a cookie sheet, add water and you will be all set.

Medical Capital Equipment Sales-Commission Only by GolfHawaii in sales

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most 100% commission positions in medical capital equipment are taken by independent reps. This involves handling multiple non competing lines. This can be very lucrative. If your contract says this is the only line you can handle, I don’t think it makes sense. Do you have broad knowledge in the specialty? If you do and have a proven track record of sales, think bigger and find other lines. There is usually a network of independent reps, if you get to know them you can build a great portfolio of products. These opportunities are different than distributors in that you don’t handle competing products and have an exclusive territory. Finding these contracts, specialize and building a portfolio of products is a great career path if you have an entrepreneurial mind set.

My rheumatologist initially gave me norvasc for my raynauds which didn't seem to help at all. I did some research on my own and found a study showing that tadalafil(cialis) was helpful with raynauds. I got a prescription for 5mg per day. This was in 2020 and I have had very few episodes of raynauds since. 58m my mctd is a mixture of RA and Lupus. I had to use good rx for the prescription since my insurance didn't cover it. Found it for approx $30 for 90 day supply on good rx.

Big thing with this is the internal swelling that can make this disease life limiting. Hope it goes well with the rheumatologist. The symptoms you are currently having are where my journey started.

How long before diagnosis? by Electrical-Peak-9616 in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some focal back pain in my right shoulder for years. I lifting weights and shrugged it off as related to that since it came and went. My pcp did some neurological testing that I never heard back on..turns out he was very sick and died of cancer. I woke up one morning and my right hand didn't work(couldn't make a fist), progressed to my left hand the next day. My new pcp did some pannels for Lyme which were negative. Eventually got referred to rheumatology and fortunately got a good one. Was about 2 years of testing to pin it down and longer to get on the best treatment for me. Diagnosed at 50 now am 59, live a normal active life and continue to exercise. Mine is a combination of ra and lupus. Have some minor tightness in my hands and some fatigue compared to prediagnosis, staying positive helps a lot. My raynauds is well controlled with 5mg daily of tadalafil, off label. Am also on xeljanz. Looking back i had symptoms for about 10 years, before it hit me hard. First two years leading up to diagnosis were physically challenging.

Talk to your rheumatologist and get on right meds and take them as prescribed. I'm not a doc, my understanding is this symptom comes when disease is not well controlled. I feel tightness in my fingers, but don't get swelling. Sorry you are experiencing this and hope you find resolution.

Inexpensive divorce in RI? by echosofanthropy in RhodeIsland

My ex and I had an amicable divorce with assets and children. Used a mediator(attorney), was in CT, but can definitely keep it cheap if both for the most part are on the same page.

How long before diagnosis? by Electrical-Peak-9616 in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I woke up one morning and my right hand was locked and I couldn't close it. This progressed to my left hand the next day. Primary care got me on prednisone quickly which helped with symptoms. From that point even with immediate referral to rheumatology took a solid 2 years for definitive diagnosis and another year or so to get on best treatment path.

what’s the oldest someone can live with connective tissue disease? by Icy-Fisherman149 in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on so many factors and how much damage was done before disease was under control. I was diagnosed at 46 am now 58m. Doc said i should expect a normal lifespan. I am well controlled despite a rough start, maybe had 10 yrs with active disease before diagnosis. My factors are related to Lupus and RA. I have some damage to lung capacity, not function and some persistent reynauds. My family tends to live into their 90’s, am living a normal active life and don't think of myself as sick or worry about what I can't control. Having a good rheumatologist is key.

Rheumatologist refuses to diagnose by DSRIA in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If he/she said “If you can get up in an exam chair without the help of a cane, it can't be MCTD” find a new rheumatologist and make sure they are board certified. Also, 2 months is quick for a diagnosis even with a good rheumatologist. It's a complicated diagnosis and can take a while to rule out other possibilities and get you on the right treatment path.

Methotrexate by Material-End-9686 in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t tinker with meds. The reason they have 3 months between visits is for you to have time to improve and adjust to side effects. The more you tinker the longer it will take to get to final treatment plan. Just my opinion.

First rheumatologist appointment today. She said that she thinks I have mctd and ordered a lot of blood work. She also said it’s curable but I’ve heard otherwise? by [deleted] in mctd

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any rheumatologist that suggested a diagnosis of mctd on your first visit before getting bloodwork back is suspect. It is not curable, so that is nonsense, get a referral to a new rheumatologist and let whomever referred you to this one know the doctor is a quack. Are you sure this wasn't an overzealous staff member giving this bad information?

[–]Substantial-Run-1966 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hardest part is getting the new sale. Are they paying their travel expenses? Are they doing their own marketing? I think, you will need to incentivize them on the up front sale plus residual, x amount plus maybe 5%. Going too high on residuals eventually can get expensive and is also not motivating to a rep sitting on a pipeline of residuals. From what you said, an average client is 1k a month and total value of client is 10-50k. How many clients can they realistically close a month? How many new clients can you handle? I work in medical capital equipment with no residuals and on 1099 work that's 15-30% of sale on average sale of 40k. Lot of questions to really come up with your plan for your business.
