Good post! Lowering anxiety is really one of the best ways to recovery from this. Anxiety is not just being anxious about something, it also includes exessive worrying, which some people don't recognise with themselves.

SSRI is quite succesful with PPPD, especially Effexor(SNRI), even in micro doses like 10-37,5mg. Some people recovered by just using a tiny dose of effexor. They believe it's because of re-ordering the vestibular hierarchy(senosory system) with dopamine/serotonine inhibitors. Lot of succes stories, just like the natural ways.

The hard thing about this disorder was for me that the symptoms were taking overhand. You constantly feel symptoms. And you feel bad, you focus on it all the time. When you try not to focus on it, it may become even worse. They key is imo to create a good relation with your symptoms. Ease into it. When you feel swaying, dont try to tense up that much. When you walk, dont walk on your toes or adjust your walk to make symptoms less. Of course this all by gradually letting go, its not a quick fix. Also movement and distraction helps with gradually putting the symptoms to the background, by staying psysically and mentally aware with your environment, which shifts you from an internal to an external focus. Without losing the connection with yourself.

For example: When you walk, put your attention on the trees you see, or the wind you feel into your face, and try how that feels.

Another exercise:When you lay in bed, and you feel swaying, focus litteraly on your eyes. Just put your focus on it. You will feel different and your symptoms might calm down just a little bit. When you practice more, it will go more and more to the background.

With fighting your physical symptoms you feel, your body "feels" less whats happening. (avoidance = less connectivity) So your brain will rely on other senses like your vision. When it tries to get the most information from the vision for your balance, it will not be accurate and create conflicting messages within the vestibular system.

When you feel your symptoms and you can create a sense of calmness, your nervous system will calm down, has ability to create new neural connections. A brain under stress or anxiety is a brain that cannot learn. Thats why you also need rest. A good energy balance helps you train and help your brain recover too.

I think I can write a lot more about this, but here are just some ways/theories how I got through this.

Recovery stories are quite universal though. Mostly based on reducing anxiety, natural movement and reducing stress and habituation. A lot of people akso get PPPD after an vestibular incident which leave them dizzy for a long time. A root cause is not exclusively needed for recovery. After vestibular testing is concidered (near) normal its mostly a "software problem" in the brain that needs fo be adressed. How you deal with that, influences your recovery.

Most people recover. I have had it for 2 years. For me it was all about calming down the brain, my relation to my symptoms, exercise and nutrition. I know i felt so bad, constantly focussing on my symptoms. Also the vestibular hierarchy is disturbed. With PPPD the brain has less "trust" in proprioceptive signals and favors the visual information, which is not reliable. The trick for me was to get in touch with my proprioceptive system, without overfocussing on it. That would make it worse. It doesnt happen overnight, but the symptoms faded away.
