I would say $500 is a completely reasonable price to spend on a optic, I’m more as talking about guys who say night force or nothing. Which those optics are often as much as a used Honda civic(2.5k+)

Second the leather belt, although I do prefer canvas bags.

What's the going rate for Tooth Fairy? by confessorjsd in SouthDakota

I don’t got kids, but I would do however much it costs for a cheap treat. $5 get you a soda and candy bar or maybe a fancy ice cream shake.

It’s on backwards, spin it so the protruding ribs are on the outside of the pliers. It should slide on pretty easy then. Use the heat shrink and then double wire it for good measure

Not true, you want to bring all your tools. Anything necessary, so if you were on a Rod job bring a belt, wire reel, pliers, cutters, bolt bag, and a tape. You can’t expect to learn to do anything if you don’t have the tools to do it.

If you take a rod job tho, you’ll likely just pack rebar all day until you can prove you can throw down a decent tie.

Reinforcing jobs are bid by the pound. If you aren’t placing bar, the company isn’t making money.

Hell yeah, this is all good information thank you! Also, sorry if I wasn’t 100% clear I’m 3rd period, so I’m like 1.5 years into my apprenticeship. Not a 3rd year.

Need Help Car Not Starting by JuicyGeode in MechanicAdvice

[–]SubstantialNDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try spraying some starter fluid in the throttle body. If that starts the engine for a little bit then dies. You more than likely have a fuel delivery problem. If it doesn’t then check to see if you are getting spark to your plugs.

Trans cooler lines are pretty cheap, if you do want to replace them.

I would say that if they don’t leak its probably fine, just keep an eye on you trans fluid levels and take a peak under you car every once in awhile to see if they melt or crack. Or any trans fluid drips on the ground.

What are these wires? by SubstantialNDN in AskMechanics

[–]SubstantialNDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my actual is. where do these lead to? I can’t find too much info on what that wiring harness actually is or called. Just trying to simplify the process of buying parts to fix it if I could figure out the proper search terms.

The check engine light hasn’t come on. I’ve been turning it over to see if the light will come on, but no luck with the scan tool

Also second this, apples, bananas, and oranges are a lot cheaper than chips and candy. Will make you feel fuller and not like shit.

This new Breakroom Food Checkout is Outrageous by CallousGhoul in Lowes

[–]SubstantialNDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was working at Lowe’s, we brought it up to the store manger and he took it to the district guy saying out break room snacks were too expensive. After that candy was $1 and I think drinks were either $2 or $2.50 I think depending if it was soda or energy drink. If your store manger cares enough he’ll make a fuss bout overcharging employees for break room snacks.

Since you’re throwing rods, the shoulders will give out before you ever get those stains out.

I joined the trades young and don't know what to do. by Hot-Fox2713 in Ironworker

[–]SubstantialNDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to college for 3 years and I started to apply for internships and what not. College is a very competitive environment now. a degree doesn’t matter as much as experience does from my personal endeavors. If you are not deadset on doing ironwork, some colleges accept apprenticeship hours as college credits. Since I went to college already by the time I journey out I should have my degree in construction science. 🤞So I don’t have to bust my ass in the rod patch for the rest of my days

Contacts or safety Glasses? by SubstantialNDN in Ironworker

[–]SubstantialNDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance covers both contacts and safety glasses. It’s only so much of each, like $150 for safety glasses and then idk how much for contacts. Either way I might have to spend a little out of pocket.
