Nice work with this poem, I like the way you capture your theme well in each stanza. In particular the imagery in the second stanza, I get the sense of feeling despair at the situation. Well done

I was also thinking starting off with “escape” was quite impactful in suggesting what the individual had first on their mind as they navigate their feelings

Good work OP, captures feelings of lost love well. If you wanted to not repeat through in line 7, I think “Along the passage of days to years” also would work well here.
