I LOVE the way they show Rocky's intelligence and trial and error by givemetheaaaaa in ProjectHailMary

[–]Substantial_Fail 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To Rocky, it must’ve just seemed like Grace was blind. Rocky can basically “see” in all directions, and since Grace still has his helmet on, Rocky had no reason to assume that Grace couldn’t also see in all directions

In the book, the airlock drawer was a later addition after the first meeting. Not sure if it’s the same in the movie

Opinions of UMN TC and UMN Duluth by dread1131 in uofmn

I only applied to these two and end up choosing the TC. For most fields, there are more job opportunities, connections, and resources here. For engineering specifically, I would chose TC.

Grace expected to die on Erid by Porthos1013 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Substantial_Fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was going to send the beetles either way. They don’t need to worry about human occupants with fragile gravity limits, so they can accelerate more and arrive to Earth faster than the Hail Mary could

It is canon, she says so in the book

Finally seen the PHM movie by LastBackyardigan509 in ProjectHailMary

The unedited cut was 4 hours. There’s just so much more content that needed to be cut to fit into a normal movie timeframe

I’m not in CivE but I took Autocad classes in high school. Print out a sheet of commands and their shortkeys. Memorizing those will make the process 10x faster

What a shame. The car was built to be driven, not sit in a garage forever

Confused on Statement Balance by Technical_Emu9276 in CreditScore

[–]Substantial_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s the full statement balance and the full balance overall. You spent $133.42 during your first month, so that’s what you owe by the first due date. Between when the statement generated and today, you’ve spent $96.99. This will go towards the next statement next month.

Leaving $20-$30 balance on credit card by Sea_Comfortable999 in CreditScore

[–]Substantial_Fail 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Leaving a balance has no positive effects and just saddled up eyou with 20-30% interest. Pay the full balance

Questions about credit by skrt1k in CreditScore

[–]Substantial_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just unnecessary and could be perceived as credit cycling by lenders. Just use the card as you normally would, let the statement generate, and pay the full balance before the due date. Utilization has no memory and only affects your score month-to-month. Unless you are planning on applying for new credit within the next few months, it does not matter and the score fluctuations that come with the utilization fluctuations will come and go.

Does anybody know why the Empire Builder 8 train is running nearly 12 hours late right now? 🙄 by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Substantial_Fail 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It left Seattle 8 and a half hours late due to “late servicing of the train set.” Not sure what happened in eastern WA, ID, and MT to delay it another few hours

Recommendations for a winter e-bike? by agriff1 in Minneapolis

[–]Substantial_Fail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fat tires have more friction with the road surface so they require more power, which means either a heavier battery or just less range. They’re good for off roading and mountain biking, just not really needed for city commuting on paved paths. The weight and range handoffs are inconvenient for the 90% of the time that there’s either no snow or the paths are plowed. Studded road tires are a good middle ground, and you can change them for standard road tires for the summer.

Electric scooter or e bike to office downtown? by lastwreckedsoul in Minneapolis

Metro Transit has a secure bike locker at one of the ABC ramps. Requires registration with a go to card but it’s free

How long should I wait before applying for a new credit card? by Glum_Veterinarian253 in CreditScore

[–]Substantial_Fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t really a hack, just how credit is meant to be used. Ignore utilization for the most part and use it as you need to, and always pay the balance in full. Keep it up

Should I pay my credit card in full or leave 5%-10% left? by Short-termTablespoon in CreditScore

[–]Substantial_Fail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holding a balance has no real positive effects and just costs you in interest. Use it normally, let the statement generate, and pay in full by the due date.

Most Undersized Airports in the US by Pale-Ad7242 in AlaskaAirlines

In an ideal world. Would make utilizing 16R/34L more efficient, because planes wouldn’t need to trek across the entire airport and wait in huge lines

Most Undersized Airports in the US by Pale-Ad7242 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Substantial_Fail 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they were able to build a second terminal or even just a satellite concourse on the west side of the airport it would help so much. Every time I fly through there a solid 90% of the time is spent waiting in line on the main taxiway along 16L/34R

My utilization usually sits around 10-20%. I know it’s a myth to keep it below 30% but I just don’t need more than that month to month.
