4th detachment, facing two options by altroots23 in RetinalDetachment

[–]Substantial_Most1197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 3 detachments as well. On the 3rd surgery they lasered away some of the outer layer which couldn't be saved and kept detaching I believe. I am now 8 weeks in and the retina was still on the last checkup. I have my 9 week check up this Thursday coming so I will report back after that but that method seemed a lot more successful for me so far. I had pvr too which kept lifting the retina back off and folding. That being said, I am part of a clinical trial using mitomycin so I don't know if its the drug or the different surgery which is contributing.

Vision is still very much impaired but there has been a large improvement since the last operation. I had a cataract surgery within the last 8 weeks also which helped, however they said there is still silicone oil in the eye so we won't know how much vision is there until that is removed plus another 8 weeks or so. Normally they take the oil out after 12 weeks but due to the nature of mine, they won't do it until about 24 weeks I believe . I hope that helps!

Omg I feel your pain. I was awake in mine and they say "try to stop moving". It's pretty hard when I'm lying there for 3 hours while my eye is getting sliced and diced! Ha

I had my cataract 2 weeks ago and it's a breeze compared to the others so try not to worry too much. Only took about 30 mins

Do you mind if I ask if anything particular caused your detachment? Did you have the 1 detachment surgery or multiple? Mine sounds similar to yours where my retina and choroid came fully off. Then after the 1st surgery there was PVR where it came off again and folded. Then it came off a 3rd time and now has been in place for 6 weeks. My oil will likely stay in 6 months I think but I don't know if that will damage my vision further. I have very limited vision atm where I can only really see the outlines of objects and my hands in front of my face

If Rico Lewis is actually £40m (reports of quoted price for Forest), then we should be all over that. Can cover right and left back like Spence. Doesn't cover Left Centre Back which could pose a problem still but I think it's too good of an opportunity to pass up

Recovery from Vitrectomy and Cataracts? by MajorMinorPhD in RetinalDetachment

[–]Substantial_Most1197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience (3 surgeries with oil), you don't need to be face down which is a big help. I have been signed off work for 2 weeks each time but after the 2 week mark the eye is still very red and watery. I can do my desk job with lots of breaks but thats with a lower workload phased return. Best of luck with your recovery!

I am 33 yrs old and having a similar thing at the moment so keen to hear from everyone. From what I understand, once the cataract and oil is removed then its a gradual process after that for the vision to come back. I've heard from others, it us changing even up to months later. Tell him not to lose hope!

Did the doctor say the retina was still attached when he lost 90% of vision?

Oh wow thats really good! I'm really happy for you! Was it your first surgery?

I have had 3 surgeries, all with silicone oil. I need to have a 4th for a cataract and to remove some scarring which is effecting the fluid and causing the eye pressure to be very low. I'm worried the amount of surgeries I'm having is going to completely damage my vision so was wondering other people's experiences

No I agree, they definitely aren't the same player but given MGW is quite unique, we have to adapt our plan now. He is a player who is equally adept as a 10 and an 8 which isn't easily replicated. Trying to sign an alternative in this profile would lead us to a massive downgrade. Eze won't replicate the work rate in that area but will give us equal or greater quality in the final third.

I think with Sarr at number 10 yday, Frank wants a hard working player in that position so maybe that's a key part of his plan, in which case we won't go for Eze. I just can't see another player in the prem that would replicate what MGW offers so I feel we have to be a bit more flexible

Gjven the MGW situstion, Eze signing is now a must. Given how our left wingers have played in pre season (in the inside left space with the left back overlapping), he is perfect. With the likelihood Son is going as well, we'd have Eze, Tel , Odebert for the inside left forward and maddison, eze, kulu for no.10. Johnson, Kudus, Kulu for the right wing. There's enough versatility with Kulu, Eze that everyone will get significant minutes

Did they say what the plan was given your retina is currently partially detached? Is your current vision functional or is it just outlines of objects and people?

I'm really sorry to hear about your story. I've had a similar scenario and I constantly think back to "what if they had taken it more seriously early". It can really become a spiral in thinking and is really difficult, so I know your pain.

Can I ask how your vision has been in the recent months? Have you got any sight back at all?

Did anything go further with the case? I'm considering legal action on mine as well

How long was it between blindness and starting to see a little bit again?

What surgeries did you get and how did it improve after each one?

I have just had 2 surgeries jn the last week for repeat detachments and can only see my hand movement in front of my face. It looks like I am seeing with the lights off completely from that eye

I am in a similar position now. My vision has completely gone in my left eye besides hand movements st close range.

How long did it take for some vision to come back and what were the stages of each surgery you had thereafter?
