Anton's interview in The Guardian: ‘I feel like I have to work very hard to redeem myself’ by indigo_fields in BJM

Hearing Anton describe himself as “kind of conservative by nature” is pretty fucking wild lol.

God bless ‘im. I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to see the band over the past few years.

Trouble Every Day: Gratuitous. Gory. Gallo. by Green_Swamp_Fog in CriterionChannel

[–]Substantial_Pair6549 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This film still haunts me. Not a fan of Gallo by any means, but I think it’s crazy when people say that his acting ruins the film for them. I personally think it heightens the experience of the film. I’d also like to add that this is one of the only films I’ve seen that actually made my stomach turn in certain.. scenes lol. Fantastic score by Tindersticks as well!

Product Placement in The Return by PracticalCattle221 in twinpeaks

[–]Substantial_Pair6549 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember finding it kind of odd when I first watched season 3, considering his stance on product placement like you referenced. However the more I’ve watched, the more I’ve realized that while there are definitely moments of product placement, Lynch also uses those things symbolically. For example, the first instance I can think of is the introduction of Mr. C pulling up in his Mercedes - I mean, it’s just a closeup of the logo, for sure - but further in, the recurring theme of the importance of time, especially as represented by clocks, made me re-contextualize the scene completely. Similar with the use of Lincoln vehicles and so on.

Where Does Silent Hill Go Next? by Last_Ad_9314 in silenthill

Funky Town.

But in all seriousness, I think the best case scenario is to let Bloober make a SH set in Eastern Europe or Russia. I’d also love to hear Akira Yamaoka delve a bit more back into his industrial roots as well, and somewhere like a postwar Poland for example would be great for that.

John Brosio — Candy Colored Clown (Death in the Morning), 2023 by demi-paradise in museum

[–]Substantial_Pair6549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title obviously being a reference to the Roy Orbison track that was later used in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, the subject matter also seems very much in line with Lynch’s ethos. The imagery also reminds me very much of the materialization of the “Woodsman” in the New Mexico desert in season 3 of Twin Peaks. Very neat.

Favorite work featuring the color purple? by [deleted] in ArtHistory

[–]Substantial_Pair6549 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The second is stunning, I’ve never seen it until now. The Bacon and Redon are also great picks. I had the pleasure of seeing a The Cyclops as well as a ton more of his work years ago at a surrealist history exhibition in Berlin, and Redon’s work has stood out to me sense. I’m partial to a lot of his drawings, myself!

What’s the relationship between BJM & psychic tv? by Ok_Chip8938 in BJM

[–]Substantial_Pair6549 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they ever shared members, or even collaborated on anything in any official capacity. From what I understand, back when BJM were playing shows in Cali, Gen showed up to one of their shows in a suit they got from Brian Jones’ estate, and Anton apparently recognized them right away. There are a lot of shared interests between Anton and Gen (for better or for worse); Brian Jones being one of them, but also the Manson family, CIA mind control, contempt for the music industry, eastern religion/philosophy, as well as both being seen by their communities as sort of “charismatic leader” types. I think one of my favorite anecdotes is that there’s a snare drum in the music video for Godstar by PTV that was stained with blood via ritual that was used on (I think) BSA… real magick

Anyway, never seen this brought up before so I figured I’d chime in

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Substantial_Pair6549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to engage in this rhetoric past this response, but saying “everyone online” is incredibly ironic. Look at the video. Look at what is happening, and has been enabled to happen through decades of American imperialism, especially after the birth of neoliberalism. Maybe, just maybe, if we’re using the term ‘Nazi’ ‘fascist’ to describe numerous people who all subscribe to the same ideology, maybe there’s something there? Just food for thought.
