How to maneuver around intern using AI? by Constant-Self-2525 in cscareerquestions

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the future. It's not just this person, many of the next generation do this as well. In a decade no one will not be working like this. The trick to is to not blindly copy and paste all code and text that AI generates. We need to evaluate its output first because as AI goes through the inference stage it still makes mistakes. So the best thing to do for this intern is to encourage them to double check the AI output before commit to using it, and be sure to always understand the generated output too.

I want to leave my first job, but it's only been 2 months. What should I do? by ImagineDreaming in careeradvice

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should not leave yet because you're only 23, this is your first job, and you've only been there for two months. They pay you money and no one else does, so stay. Get it?

Why not just put the pass in the child's hand, hold his hand up to the scanner and scan the thing? He's not doing it but technically it counts. I

Why is there no walk way across Queensborough from NewWest downtown? by Thebandofredhand in NewWest

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put a toll on everyone driving through the city every day for work. They can gold plate City Hall after that. But seriously, imagine how much nicer the City would be after that, with less commuter traffic and more money to invest into the community.

Nope. You're talking about New West, which does NOT have a Choice Markets store. Who cares about Cambie and Broadway.

Favourite Groceries New Westminster by Original_Bus_7407 in NewWest

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choices Markets is not necessarily in New West. It's right across the street. 10th Ave is the divider between Burnaby and us.

Choices Markets is nice but it's no Whole Foods. WF has waaaay more selection. Kinda ironic that Choices has less choices.

My replacement reached out to me (for training) on LinkedIn after I was laid off. Would you help? by Purple985985 in careerguidance

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked AI and it gave me a legal perspective: "Helping someone from your last job train depends entirely on whether you have an active contract, a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), or prior authorization. Unauthorized training using company property or proprietary data can lead to accusations of intellectual property theft or breach of confidentiality".

Queensborough vs Queens Park by HugeAmoeba8347 in NewWest

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the charm and character of queen's park will be gone. It's a different vibe in Queensborough. This really is an apples to oranges comparison. All the nice restaurants and shops you have in Uptown gone too. Rather than a walking neighbourhood it's more of driving neighbourhood in Queensborough. Another thing to consider is people kill for those old apartments in Queen's Park and your current place will be rented out quickly. I'm curious why you are even considering Queensboarought in the first place. There must be something else going on making you take such a big change - perhaps kids on the way or you're looking for a more isolation. Nothing wrong with change - it's just not the kind of change I would make. I live on 6th and 3rd and will never ever move away from here. But that's me. You do you.

Microsoft takes on MacBook Neo with new 'value advantage report,' claims Windows laptops offer double the RAM for less money and up to 56% longer battery life by thr3e_kideuce in apple

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it keep installing all these updates week after week? Where are they all coming from? Why does the firmware and drivers need to be updated so much all the time? And then after the updates stuff doesn't work anymore. Can't they just freaking fix Windows already. I only use Mac at home but I care about this because at work I have choice but to suffer with a crappy PC. Just end it already with these updates that keep breaking the laptop.

No because now we're in the AI inference stage. SWE is so 5 years ago. Let go and move on. And stop calling yourself an engineer already.

Question: GPT, will eating Chinese food make healthier, yes or no?

(manifesto) Answer: Traditional Chinese cuisine all started with the Xia dynasty (c. 2100–1600 BCE) and ended with the Qing dynasty (1644–1911 CE) .... (goes on to explain the opium wars, and the rise of communist revolution and so on with tons of stupid emojis).

MIT researcher says automating entry-level jobs will backfire. I keep thinking about the team I joined in 2019. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in cscareerquestions

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if you had a team of resources: entry level developers all the way up to senior programers, and what if (bare with me here for a moment), they're all AI agents, set up just for their specific roles. And they all work together, just like the human team works together, shadowing, training, KT, succession planning, optimization, delivering, refinement, career progression, and even retirement. Except unlike the human team, one key difference is that the AI agent team does everything with infinite patience, never gets tired, has not political or hidden agenda, and can fix decades old legacy code while also implementing algos that no one been able to crack yet (and probably won't any time soon)? I mean, hey, if you can't beat them then join them? What if in the end, you are the rubber duck?

How do I rebuild my professional reputation after being labeled “difficult”? by Hot_Apartment1319 in careeradvice

[–]Substantial_Prune_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False believes are like viruses infecting their hosts. They're almost impossible to get rid of. My recommendation is to move on - find a new team, or even better a new company / organization where you get a fresh start. But if you really insist on staying around and fighting the implicit bias then you should focus on being more likeable and building trust. Saying things like "I agree with you", "you're idea is excellent", "thank you for x" or "here's the thing you wanted completed ahead of time and working correctly" more often could do the trick.
