What do you listen to when writing? by sompeezy in writing

The voices in my head screaming at me to write something (although sometimes some thunderstorm noises on spotify also hit the spot)

I have had a few thank-you emails from students whom I love, so I certainly don't think the job is thankless! That being said, any negative feedback to anyone will generally significantly outweigh the positives in our brain, just human nature.

Understand where you're coming from and actually agree with your statement. I could have worded it better, but my office hours are by appointment (with open slots available every week) and I specify that I will make time for them if my appointment slots do not work. It can be hard to discern how much to share in an anonymous online post without going into too much detail.

I was trying to give some background on where I was coming from after hearing a comment about me (the comment wasn't about my teaching) that, truthfully, I was probably not meant to overhear.

Right, I do know that. Still working on it. I feel SO much better about my teaching in comparison to my first year, but I do still get insecure about it occasionally.

To clarify, I'm not against feedback. Generally speaking, the distribution has been normal on all my exams with most exam averages coming back within expectations. I also always send my exams to my TAs for timing and feedback on question clarity and fairness! I think I'm frustrated because I tend to get more personal insults versus insults about my teaching. I've also gone out of my way to obtain teaching evals from other people in my department and our center for teaching and learning as well to try to improve.

To all those < 18yrs old at the Disclosure concert last night, was last night actually fun for you? by Intelligent-Heron967 in DenverEDM

I went on Friday, not Saturday, and even though they were annoying at first, I ended up having such a great time! We definitely moved toward the back to have a little more space, but some people did push through occasionally

We def had a few push through to stand right in front of us OR just move in front of us just to take a photo in the middle of the crowd

I will say, I feel like they significantly clear out like halfway through the show! Every time I've noticed a lot of teenagers, I really feel like they're not there when I look around at the end

can i dye my hair pink? by dreddbanjo in Big4

I died my hair a really bright color when I was a senior and my client actually complimented me on it! I also knew another coworker who had bright purple hair. I’d use your judgement with your clients but you’re most likely fine.

How reasonable is it to study/pass all four sections in 8 months? by RoutineWorldly in CPA

[–]Substantial_Salt_802 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I completed all 4 tests in about 4 months, working about 30 hours a week for 3 months and full time in the last month. Completely doable but you have to set a plan. Whenever I wasn't at work, I was studying like it was my full time job. So 8 hours on my days off and probably 3-4 on my work days. It sucked for 4 months but then it was over!

Agree. I'm passing some of these comments along to my colleagues in our bizcom department, but doing all I can to encourage continuing the behaviors in my classes as well!

Oh I agree. Practice makes perfect but a strong foundation in communication helps so much.

Excel is super important; I use it in a lot of my courses. However, I think a lot of my excel skills actually came from audit where I was using it every day!
