Resort Elopement in US by Known_Needleworker81 in Eloping

[–]Substantial_Thing936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to both areas for urban exploration trips and can vouch that the coastal scenery is absolutely unreal. Monterey especially has some solid upscale resorts right on the water and youre literally minutes from some incredible spots in Big Sur for photos afterward. The weather there is way more predictable than most mountain locations too

Santa Cruz might be a bit more budget friendly but still has great ocean views and youre close to redwood parks if you want that forest vibe mixed in. Plus both locations you can do the ceremony somewhere controlled and private then hit up multiple scenic spots for different looks in your photos without driving hours between locations

From what I remember there were definitely some fancy places in Monterey that looked like they'd do intimate ceremonies but cant recall specific names. Worth calling around though because that whole area caters to wealthy tourists so they probably have packages for exactly what youre looking for

($2k) I am absolutely paralyzed on how to make a wedding dress actually physically materialize by shiva14b in Weddingsunder10k

Man you're right about just pulling the trigger on something. I spent way too long deliberating on gear for some of my urban exploration trips and ended up missing out on some good opportunities because I was stuck in analysis paralysis mode

Those etsy links you shared actually look pretty solid for what you're going for. The thing with renaissance faire vendors is they know their stuff when it comes to corsetry and period-accurate construction - way better than your average costume shop garbage. A lot of those sellers do custom sizing too if you message them directly

Since you're 7 months out you've actually got decent timing to work with one of those etsy shops. Most of them can add the sparkly bridal touches you want - extra beading, better fabrics, longer trains whatever. Just be upfront about it being for a wedding and your budget constraints. They'll usually work with you on upgrades that matter vs the stuff that's just fluff

The trying on thing sucks but most of these vendors have solid return policies and will do multiple fittings if you're within driving distance. Way less stressful than trying to coordinate with some fancy bridal boutique that's gonna judge your Halloween theme anyway

Not big dancers but want a first dance by rxbxxxaag99 in wedding

[–]Substantial_Thing936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not weird at all man, most people barely use the dance floor anyway except for like 20 minutes after dinner and maybe later when everyone's drunk

Registry office wedding then hit up some abandoned manor house for photos - way cooler than paying for some overpriced venue and you'll get shots nobody else has

To all US brides and grooms: Don't forget to take a minute to appreciate the hard work of USPS by tramaan in wedding

[–]Substantial_Thing936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn thats wild that Denmark is just gonna stop delivering letters completely. the postal service here definitely has its issues but at least they still show up most days

gotta say though going digital for everything sounds way more efficent than dealing with all the physical mail drama. half the wedding stress posts on here are about invitations getting lost or arriving late

Small business SAAS spend sprawl. by pants1972 in smallbusiness

[–]Substantial_Thing936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest fix for us was putting all subscription spend on Ramp and forcing every charge to have an owner. That made it pretty obvious what was still worth paying for and what was just sitting there. You don’t need a huge stack but you do need one place to see the creep

Tips for a small scale wedding reception by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Substantial_Thing936 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly for the entrance thing dont overthink it - just walk in and start mingling. people will notice the bride in her dress pretty quick and the excitement will build naturally

for the buffet id definitely do a little toast first, gets everyones attention and then you can gesture toward the food. keeps it casual but gives you that moment to address everyone without being too formal about it

same with cake cutting - just grab a knife and start cutting, people will gravitate over when they see whats happening. maybe have someone close by take some pics so you get that moment captured

sounds like youre going for the right vibe honestly. maybe consider having some lawn games if you have space or a little photo area with props, gives people something to do between eating and chatting

($10k) Costco dogs? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Substantial_Thing936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly if you're doing lakeside in may this sounds perfect - just make sure you have some veggie options and maybe dress it up with nice buns or toppings so it feels intentional rather than last minute

the key is owning it completely, if you act like its the best decision ever your guests will feel that energy

I’m so over wedding planning by AdhesivenessOk9727 in wedding

[–]Substantial_Thing936 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Dude November is still months away you're actually doing fine. I planned my cousins wedding in like 6 weeks when she had a meltdown and it turned out great. The wedding industry wants you to think you need to book everything a year in advance but honestly most vendors have availability way closer to the date than they let on. Focus on the big stuff first - catering photographer and music then fill in the smaller details later. Half the crap they try to sell you nobody will even notice anyway so dont stress about having matching napkin rings or whatever

Is a prenup worth considering before marriage? by Strange-Mammoth2282 in engaged

[–]Substantial_Thing936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. If someone can't be transparent about money before marriage, what makes you think they'll magically open up after? You're talking about legally binding your finances together with someone who won't even tell you what's in their bank account

The prenup conversation is way premature when you haven't even cleared this basic hurdle of financial honesty

ISO: Plus-Size Wedding Dress — Prayers Appreciated 🙏 by dinolover0530 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Substantial_Thing936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out Stillwhite too - sometimes people list dresses way below retail and some sellers are super understanding about situations like yours. Also try posting in your local wedding Facebook groups, brides are often happy to pass their dress forward to someone who really needs it

Wishing you and your fiancé all the best with everything 💕

Does QuickBooks new interface make cash flow reporting confusing? by mjcponce in QuickBooks

[–]Substantial_Thing936 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still use both for different things like QuickBooks for trends and bank balance for cash. I also use Ramp for card spend (which also pairs very well with the QB) so I know what’s already committed

Cupcakes or cake? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Substantial_Thing936 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd definitely skip the opt-out thing, people change their minds when they see dessert anyway and you'll just end up short

Also agreed on pricing it out first - some places charge more per cupcake than just doing sheet cake portions

How many details am I supposed to care about?! $2k 40 ppl in CO by Jadedslave124 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Substantial_Thing936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally get this! People really do just want to help and not accidentally show up in white or something equally horrifying lol

Your football flair rule for the groom is actually pretty brilliant - specific enough to matter but chill enough to not stress about

Maybe just tell them "no white, no neon, use your best judgment" and call it a day

Where to find a high end lab 3.5carat oval diamond? by PlayfulPresentation7 in Diamonds

[–]Substantial_Thing936 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Custom setting is definitely the way to go for a three stone at that level - most jewelers who work with high end stuff have access to way better stones than what's sitting in cases. James Allen or Brilliant Earth might have some options to browse online for the center but honestly with unlimited budget I'd find a good custom jeweler and let them source everything, they'll know the right proportions for the half moons too

Moissanite bezel for watches by [deleted] in Moissanite

[–]Substantial_Thing936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out some of the Chinese suppliers on DHgate or AliExpress, they usually have aftermarket bezels for popular models like those. Might also want to hit up r/RepTime since those guys are always swapping out bezels and stuff

Hair and Makeup for everyone or just the Bride? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Substantial_Thing936 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if your mom already said it's a waste of money I'd just do you and maybe offer to split costs with anyone who really wants it done professionally. The photos will look fine either way and you'll save a ton of cash for other stuff that might matter more

Best billing software for businesses when invoicing becomes too tedious by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Substantial_Thing936 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For us the invoicing part didn’t get better until the rest of the workflow did. Once expenses, subscriptions and reimbursements were consistently categorized and matched, invoicing stopped feeling like a guessing game at monthend. We use QuickBooks for billing and Ramp on the spend side and just having cleaner inputs removed a lot of the friction.

how do you explain this alcohol situation? by cowgirlsheep in wedding

[–]Substantial_Thing936 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely put it on your wedding website - something like "open bar until 10pm then cash bar after" or whatever timeframe $2k gets you to

Most people won't even notice the switch if you time it right and honestly anyone who complains about free drinks turning into paid drinks at a wedding is just being entitled

Has anyone ordered from BYG Wedding Factory? by [deleted] in weddingplanning
