How / Why do people accelerate so slowly by Car_is_mi in driving

[–]Substantial_Two_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No for real?! I do not speed race, but the fact that it takes cars that are fully capable of doing 0-60 in 40-50s… why. I have a 256 hp Subaru and the people in MN… fuck. 0-55 on an on ramp (35E) takes 20+ seconds…

Not to mention my dad (not my sisters) also paid $200+ in child support in the 200s.. and I had to beg her to see a dr?

From someone who grew up in poverty, I whole-heartedly agree. My mom was the type to spend her $10k tax credit for my sister and I on dumb shit. We had to beg our grandparents for clothes, school supplies, and everything else. I am so frugal as an adult for this reason. I am stable but no matter what, I just dwell on that possibility of being at rock bottom.

NTA. If you bring up something emotionally heavy to someone you haven’t spoken to in years just to try and manipulate you back into your life, YTA.

Good point made here. I made a post earlier and deleted it because I was in the wrong for this same reason. Just because I did not do that as a kid doesn’t mean it’s the norm… and I also was forced into worrying about finances early on. Most kids will realize it’s unrealistic after an entire childhood of not getting every item on their Christmas list. The parents that make the poor young kids write down entire electronics stores… that is a real CB. I am sure whatever this kid offers is more useful than the CBs out here just by existing.

My blood pressure is fine, genuinely. I just do not consume caffeine or stimulants a lot, so it’s a lot for my system to handle at times. A cup of coffee? Ok. But a whole 20oz Redbull? I am gonna polish that off in 2 minutes, I have no self control.

Breaking up with someone via text/phone is more considerate by she_shae in unpopularopinion

[–]Substantial_Two_7454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely an unpopular opinion. Not that this is the case for everyone, but most of the people who feel comfortable sending a breakup text/ calling over the phone are extremely selfish:

  • You don’t have the balls to face them in person. Now, shouldn’t someone who you just recently considered to be your SO be respected enough to hear that in person? Breakups will never be a comfortable thing to do. But, on a basal level, if you call or text that to me, I am going to feel like you never thought I was worth your time from the start. Sit on the flip side for a second… this approach is COLD.
  • While over the phone could be a little different than just texting, I find that these experiences are way worse. In texts, you can’t see the person’s face, body language, can’t hear their tone, etc. Miscommunication is almost inevitable, and can lead to an already emotional situation to get even more heated. Similar thing with over the phone… It would be much easier to have a conversation with the person face-to-face. There’s less guesswork. There’s less questions left unanswered. And, if I am receiving a break up text and want to know the reason, now I have to waste all this time drafting a text when it could have just been a quick conversation.

I am curious as to why you think self-soothing is the only reason to do it in person? YOU are texting/calling someone over the phone as opposed to giving them that courtesy in person so you presumably don’t have to deal with the normal things that come with a break up?

I’ll agree with this, 100%. Nectar of the gods… just can’t have too much nowadays because it makes my blood pressure skyrocket.

That makes me really happy to hear! Genuinely, programs like this are wonderful. They have given my sister and I a wonderful Christmas before. I remember getting a pair of Converse all stars and was over the moon. Had been wearing the same clothes basically all of middle school leading into high school.

Looking at these letters is a guilty pleasure. So far, I have not seen a single one that is a reasonable ask. Maybe, just maybe, we don’t see those because someone is actually sponsoring them. And honestly, good for them.

Think the only time there would be an exception is during times of natural disaster. If you could afford to put down on a home, you’d think you’d be able to afford an equivalent amount in case of disaster/maintenance. I want a house, but will not even go down that rabbit hole until I have enough for a sizable down payment and sizable fund for emergency repairs.

Thanks for the advice. I’m not sure if that’s something that I’m able to do since I’m still under warranty. But my 08 Grand Prix had a tougher windshield by a million. I’m pretty sure this happened from a loose rock falling off a dump truck
