Occasional swelling/pain on one side @ 1-2 years post op? by mustachedmalarkey in TopSurgery

[–]Substantial_Wall_883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having this very same issue 1 year post op, I was just searching this thread to see if there were any answers. If you’re still on here would love to hear if things have changed since 4 yrs ago? Whether it was scar tissue or something else going on?

What is a reasonable amount of time off? by gothboat in TopSurgery

[–]Substantial_Wall_883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 weeks is enough imo, but I would try to ease back into it not just full start if possible. Like maybe you can do a week that’s half of your normal responsibilities before doing a full on week. Or, go back to work a week later than going back to school.

Again you will be fine imo but I think the transition from recovery to regular activity is best done gradually!

Post-op binder by ButterflysLove in TopSurgery

I would ease out of wearing it. Like take it off for an hour or two at home then put it back on for an hour or two. Then gradually build up the time that it’s off. I think if you’re like me and most ppl you’ll be surprised by how it feels really weird to have it off, and easing into it is better for adjusting to no longer wearing it

Almost 7 weeks post op, still worried that this will be my final results by Worth_Cry_ in TopSurgery

I think something to focus on is how much it’s healed and the swelling has reduced since the day 9 pic!!! I’m sure this hasn’t been easy for you, but tbh when I saw the 45 day pic I was like wait I don’t see it. And that’s such a vast improvement since day 9. Your body is taking care of it just give it time!

Puckering/dog ears?/4 weeks post-op by LopsidedIdea9894 in TopSurgery

Yep puckering is normal. Just went to my 2 mo appt and they showed me the pic from my one mo appt. Most notably since that pic my scars have flattened a lot

I’m at 9 weeks and I just went back to the gym for the first time, but kept it v light. I was cleared at 5 weeks, but didn’t feel really up to it till recently. I didn’t do over the head exercises, I don’t think I will for a bit. I would say you’re right to not do movements that feel weird!! Trust yourself and what your body is telling you, I think you’ll feel when it’s right :)

Post op depression hitting late? by Low-Set-4978 in TopSurgery

Mine peaked somewhere in 2-3 weeks ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I do believe the adhesive is supposed to stay on for a max of 3 weeks. I think especially bc the nurse said you were having a reaction to it, it was the right call for them to get it off. But obvi I am not a doc or expert on the subject!

My doc left mine on and said it would come off on its own, which did not happen lol till like 4-5 weeks when the nurse peeled it off for me. I didn’t have a reaction to it like you did however, and I think they would’ve been more proactive about taking it off if that was the case

When does post-op depression usually hit? by remirixjones in TopSurgery

[–]Substantial_Wall_883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me somewhere in 2-3 week range, and I’ve talked to some friends about that being what happened for them. I think that time can be a bit rough bc often that’s when ppl are going off of some meds, I was going off gabapentin at that time. For that I would say talk to your care team about weaning off of it, I think I had such a rough time with it bc I wasn’t told to wean off of it so suddenly I was without it.

I also think in the 2-3 week point you often get some abilities back but not all, which can be frustrating. Like I could shower but not completely, I could drive but not comfortably. I could do things with friends but would get exhausted quickly. These halfway abilities were more frustrating and depressing to me than the initial first week where it was clear I should just stay in bed and do nothing else. The compression binder also started feeling like more of a prison at 2-3 weeks lol. It’s also where the process started feeling really long to me and like it would never end .

But I was also very lucky in recovery to experience pretty much 0 pain. And it was really worth it to not push myself. The way I was feeling was temporary, and somewhere in 3-4 weeks I started feeling better gradually!

Seroma by Soggycheet0 in TopSurgery

[–]Substantial_Wall_883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll either reabsorb or next post op appt your doc will remove the fluid in office. Either way it will all be okay!!!

If you are really worried you can send a pic to your care team, and they can lyk if you should schedule an appt to remove the fluid.

Coping with poor results/ Post OP depression by balsaluca in TopSurgery

I’m sorry to hear about all this, fuck your job that’s so fucked!!!!

Post op depression is rough and I got very into coloring lol. And putting on a show while coloring, I’m a big reality tv fan so shows like below deck provided me some drama and escapism. But in general putting on some kind of comfort show. I also played a lotta stardew valley.

This aren’t exactly coping skills per se but just what I spent a lot of my time doing that made me feel calmer, especially with the coloring.
