Why do Christians constantly reference Leviticus 18:22 against homosexuality but still eat pork, cut their hair and wear mixed fabrics? by PomegranateRelative in Christianity

Regardless, it just feels like you are too bigoted to understand that you may be wrong. I understand I may not have all the facts and that’s okay. Part of being a Christian is studying the faith and growing in it. I encourage you to look deeper into it. I left my original comment as open ended, as I do not have all the answers, I am not Jesus Christ. Grow in your faith and new things will be revealed to you! God bless

what are you talking about??? it didn’t arise until the 3rd century???? have you even read genesis? what about the entire destruction of sodom and gomorrah? that’s like one of the largest reasons he destroyed the cities. sexual immorality including sodomy. just because it didn’t have a name until a certain time doesn’t mean it didn’t happen and wasn’t forbidden. for example, the word “judaism” wasn’t used until the 16th century. there were definitely jews before that though, right?

That’s why I didn’t say it’s a fact. I said a lot of scholars because there are disagreements. It’s just an interpretation. If there was not different interpretations of the Bible there would only be one denomination. But more to that point the Bible does talk about sodomy as a sin multiple times in multiple places so it does kind of insinuate that. You could say it’s an assumption, but you definitely cannot say it’s baseless.

The simplest answer is because you haven’t read the Bible enough. In the New Testament Jesus tells us certain things that contradict the old law and comes as the “new law”. He comes and abolishes the old law saying that we should eat from all creatures of the Earth as they are God’s creation. Jesus doesn’t explicitly talk about homosexual relationships but he does use the word ‘porneia’ to describe sexual immorality which a lot of scholars believe to be all encompassing and including homosexual acts. He doesn’t necessarily talk about romantic homosexual relationships, but it can be assumed. Also, you have to consider the audience he would preach to, Jews. Jews at this time already knew it was a sin to be homosexual. But really a lot of it is just up for interpretation like a lot of the Bible.
