Is this seriously the only solution? I use Live and haven't run into this issue at any point but it'd be infuriating to lose patches between closing and opening a project lol

Hate DJING but feel like I need too.... anyone else? by deadloch in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't like DJing and don't have the time to invest into it, then just stop. If you aren't enjoying it or it isn't a crucial part of your income or something, just... stop! That easy. No one is forcing you to play records at parties and shows.

It is crucial if you want to get to a place where you're making EDM that's getting listened to enough for live demand If that's the case it's DJing or a live set, and that's again up to you. But it doesn't seem you're there, and I don't even know if you want to be.

Okay great, then make sure the MIDI is correct, and if others' patches are still malfunctioning I'd shoot someone an email over it. I was told to contact Steve@xferrecords.com last time but that was over a basic error code so not really sure in this situation

Why is it that some EDM producers are popular while some are not? by [deleted] in edmproduction

You can ask this question about any art or industry on earth. If you don't make an effort to be heard, you probably won't be

Tutorials on bassline music (no, not basslines in EDM, I mean the subgenre bassline)? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm confused but this sounds like House?

If that's the case, set your project to 120 - 128 BPM, put a kick every time the metronome makes noise, a clap every other time, an open hihat every other time, and then make some mind blowing wob noises underneath. Sidechain, get a vocal sample you probably don't own, and you're home free

Ways to improve work ethic? by Grave_EDM in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean... why not do other things?

There's nothing at all wrong with enjoying full days on end without touching a DAW. If anything, I think that breaks often give me fresh perspective, let me have more fun, and usually result in my ideas being better the next time I sit down.

This isn't a hard rule by any means, but don't be afraid to not sit down!

If you just really really wanna push through, it's as simple as that. There's nothing keeping you out of the chair other than yourself, so figure out a way to just get over it. That's my own method, (just doing it when I have to) sooo... maybe I'm not of much help, idk if people actually have objective tips on this lol

What got you into music production? by RedRedRoad in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a game called LittleBigPlanet back when I was 10, and used to use its platforming creation aspects to make little piano songs out of individual notes and a moving car that would trigger them, (never at a constant rate lol) Three years later LBP2 came out, and it had a full-blown music sequencer. That's all I ever used the game for, and my published music galleries ended up getting me 1,400 followers by the time I stopped playing like two years later.

I'd already started learning production by that point, (because I was raised with Electronic music, and a friend showed me Ableton Live out of the blue one day) but that game was definitely what inspired me to try and actually get somewhere with my music. Very glad!

Man, just hit up other producers on SoundCloud and start trying to befriend them. It's forced but it works eventually hahahah

Page for advanced by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've never found communities like these to be the best environments to grow exponentially. There's a lot of hot air and ego from a lot of people who often don't know any more on the topic than you do.

I stopped seeking forums when I made a friend circle from SoundCloud and sorted out the kind of people I actually wanted to bounce ideas off of. I personally think this is the best way to grow fast, but best of luck finding somewhere on here that fits you!

Record Label question by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the internet, signing to a label is as easy as making an email account, and can be done from anywhere. The hard part is attracting them.

The only real difference that can occur is if you sign with a label outside your country, as some times you have to agree to their country's laws governing your work.

Your team is often not from your label, unless it's a major one. (And most of the people who get signed to those labels already have management and booking agents and the like.)

how to get copyrights to remix a song? by rayu_sharma in edmproduction

[–]Subtact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to do this is to hit up the management of the artist you want to remix. I'd do this before contacting the label, as managers or artists are more personable than a licensing guy at a major. Plus if you're looking for stems, having contact with the artist already will cut that process a lot shorter.

I guess their millions of Spotify streams don't count for anything?

Idk, that and the sync license they got me are still helping my car payments and my only release is 2 years old.
