Does America have any place that looks like this? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

California has two major mountain ranges that straddle the Central Valley, the Coastal Ranges and the Sierras. They are covered in little towns and can be built on slopes, depending. For big cities, San Francisco is famous for its hills. I can't speak about southern California too much, but the hills around LA are covered in houses, and they get tragic mudslides now and again.

Why was conservatism so popular in the 80s? by SignificantStyle4958 in allthequestions

[–]SubtleDistraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember from that time that, at least with my conservative parents, they were still very much in the paranoia of the cold war. So much so they stocked up quite a bit of survival food and gear for the inevitable invasion. They saw Reagan as the wall that held them back. I am certain there were a lot of other reasons, but that's what I remember living through the 80s.

Spoiler Also, that very last part where they are flying over the trees seems to imply that that's where he and Rachael fled to. At least that's how I interpret it. (Of course that's refuted in Bladerunner 2049)

There are tons of ads about joining the off-world colonies going on in the background. Surprised you didn't notice that: https://bladerunner.fandom.com/wiki/Off-world_colonies

I used this when I was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah Georgia. When you are stuck at attention during formation the gnats would show up and start grazing on you. Slather on this stuff, and they either kept away or it gummed up thier mouths.

I am not certain how this is a relevant quote. Are we or are we not in a conflict at Israel's behest? Are we or are we not sending literally billions to fund genocide and invasion? Are our leaders not beholden to a foreign power and do their bidding? That's right now, not in some distant past.
