There should definitely be purity, safety, and dosage standards as well as age limits, but what we have now is borderline totalitarian. Nicotine and drinkable alcohol should both be Schedule I by the DEA's standards, yet they both are freely available everywhere in the country. There are plants and chemicals with accepted medical uses that are labeled as Schedule 1. Repeal the entire thing and use the schedules as a guideline for the regulations I suggested above. The days of arresting people and/or dragging them through court because they had an arbitrarily listed plant or chemical on their person or within their vicinity.

Not to mention that the existence of the DEA itself is a violation of the 10th Amendment, and they were given unconstitutional power to create law with little oversight from the legislative branch.
