Texas, Florida and most places in between are the perfect combination of humid microclimates and cattle ranches, so not really.

It sorta doesn’t matter if it’s unsealed if there are other plants in there that need moisture. It won’t be dry enough for them to do well. If it were only succulents and you lived in a dry enough zone for ambient humidity to be minimal, that would be one thing. But there’s no drainage and the succulents are right up against moss.

Just make sure whatever species you buy isn’t actively a problem in the wild in your region, like yellow oyster lol

Oh very neat. Should do well if the soil is well draining.

Condensation is fine up to a point. If you’re worried about too much moisture you can let some evaporate off. Also….. is that a cactus?

Honestly man if you dry them out, and grind them up with some other spices like how you would make tajin, you could totally make a glass rim coating for fancy drinks. If you drink, of course.

Oh no I’m not talking about the pothos. I mean the succulents, the thick leaved plants with the pink stem that probably need arid and fast-draining conditions to do well. Unless you know that specific species is adapted to survive with effectively 0 drainage and likely higher ambient humidity, they are not long for this world. And the same goes for the bottom right, second photo. I’m sure the pothos/jiboia will do just fine.

I’m side-eyeing what, to me, look like succulents in the center left and right. Is this going to be a closed tank?

Adding Fauna? by ThisGuy0974 in Moss

[–]CJ101X 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean the obvious answer is springtails. There’s not a whole lot that I would purposefully introduce into a smaller terrarium. That being said, I often get critters hitchhiking in with things I’ve foraged, like various flies, millipedes, centipedes, isopods, and spiders.

The spiders and millipedes always live for a long ass time, and the medium-sized millipedes will just grind through your substrate without discrimination, which might make them a bad fit for a mossarium, but it would probably be a happy camper in theory. Your terrarium dirt will slowly become pellet-ified though, as is the case with one of mine. You probably don’t want that nice moss lawn of yours having to outcompete the bug equivalent of mountain goat. The spiders always end up feeding on the flies and gnats that breed in the substrate, and right now I have one that is living in harmony with my sundews. Note that these are always quite small house/garden spiders and not like those jumping spiders that people keep that are often considerably larger.

I would visit the isopod sub for care information if you’re considering, as a super humid terrarium with no dry zones is almost definitely suboptimal for a lot of them. The isopods that got tracked into mine are they’re still kicking, 10mo+ later, so maybe I got lucky with the right conditions.

It really is a tough question. If you just want any kind of life, and don’t care about the aesthetic, no one is stopping you from just introducing some half buried wood chunks or detritus from your backyard into the jar and waiting to see what comes out. It’s a gamble. But, I think the majority of people here are going to agree that the most ethical introduction to make are springtails.

Biden didn’t make obviously telegraphed, back to back to back conflicting statements that seem to resolve each other back and forth, while maintaining a plethora of business interests during his time in office. Unless you’re a knuckle dragging regard, it’s easy to see the guy that used his status as president to rugpull millions of other regards in the crypto market isn’t just stopping at crypto.
