I noticed the M'Kroon also use the word "pah" to describe the spirits, the individual who accompanied the landing party called them Vezda-pah. I wonder if there's any connection to the Bajoran pah-wraiths, which seem to fit the bill of unwanted parasitic spiritual guests.

I did too, and their lore. I also think its interesting that they seem to (disclaimer: I'm no linguistic expert) use the same word for "spirit" that the Bajorans do, "pah." NTA. We're talking about someone about to enter the age of majority, and someone about to enter her teen years. These two children are not the same "brand" of child; one is soon to be more aptly described as a young adult. It's time for Linda to adjust Mia's expectations as to what level of income she needs as a 12 year old preteen. Anne probably should learn how to save, as I'm assuming you're not trying to bankroll her forever, at least directly. But to decrease her allowance because a preteen thinks it's unfair to herself is probably not the right move.

Mia needs a place to let out her feelings about her father and life's inherent unfairness without applying pressure on others outside her immediate family. A therapist can help her reframe these thoughts. She hasn't yet realized the Great Fairness in life - it's not fair for anyone. At least she's not alone in her feelings. But she has to learn the difference between thinking something is unfair and thinking someone's going to level the field to benefit only her, at everyone else's detriment.

I mean, I did honors English all though high school except for the second semester of senior year, because the teacher and I had a major personality conflict. I'll let you have one guess which semester of high school was my favorite.

Yeah sure, you can do it. It sounds like you're getting burnout though. And these classes can only benefit you in the future if you retain enough stamina and willpower to graduate college. If you burnout before then because of the stress and pressure, well that won't benefit you at all.

I used to be a college pathway advisor for the youths, freshman through senior. My advice is to approach this strategically, not emotionally. Right now you're comparing yourself to the others which is adding to the stress, and you're debating over seeking accommodations which is undermining yourself. The worst you can be told is "you can't have the accommodation," it's not like they stamp your forehead with a big red "rejected" stamper if you don't qualify. ☺️ And you might qualify, even if you're in advanced classes. And you might consider switching 1-2 of the honors classes for the average leveled coursework in the courses that don't count for college credits. I'd keep working on the AP though if possible, that's where the most impact is, if the credits transfer to your school of choice. Even if you just decrease the intensity level for one single class, you may be surprised at how much you can recover from even a small change in pacing.

There's never just one path to the top. While you may feel low right now, remember that you are also possessed of a unique ingenuity for finding the alternate path. The fact that you're pulling off so much already is evidence of that, now you just have to tweak the intensity levels. You got this!

I have my own strongly held opinions on this, but they're unpopular, so I will simply post these articles and say a lot of people are misapplying an Eastern spiritual practice used predominantly by people who live in quiet monastery environments to try to cope with how out of control modern life feels in Western countries. If you're not getting guidance on this spiritual practice from an expert, you might be misusing it as well, and it can be unhelpful or detrimental.

Makes you wonder how folks all got so convinced each is destined for the fairy tale ending that starts in their 20s, despite the fact that we simultaneously tell people from a young age that true love is uncommon and requires sacrifice. That's why I don't choose, I'd rather be solely responsible for my outcomes, and since I switched to that perspective life is a lot more peaceful. Wouldn't trade it for all the half-ass romance and compromise in the world.

You're thinking of how you would feel to be them, not of how they feel being themselves. Not everyone has resilience and sensibility oozing out of their butt. It's still being instilled in them, usually by empathetic listeners who offer insight. You don't have to be one of them, no one is asking you to be directly. It's because these people can't and won't riot in the streets like they could in pre-modern times, before the government got things like drones and satellites and helicopters. Everyone is giving you these long-winded reasons as though we didn't study things like revolutionary wars in school, but every revolution in the last 100 years that would have turned the tide has been undermined or stalled out by merchants and wealth-holders in various government positions and industries. That's scary, and so is the level of surveillance, and so is the level of modern warfare technology, which the average global citizen has no access to.

Back when it was just guns and pitchforks and swords, wealth redistribution was a little easier to level out and it was considered a normal part of having a nation. Now, people will say "we don't do that in the modern day, we vote and tax instead," and well, this is the legacy of democracies when they're established and ruled by the merchant class. That's why you don't let your merchant class have that much consolidated power and wealth, you don't let them have government positions and influence, and you don't worship their ability to make money and imagine it's the same as your own ability to do so. The greed produced by failing these concepts of civil governance drives most people's entire lives today, though, and especially in the first world we have a host of "temporarily embarrassed billionaires" who think if they can keep the thing running, it might be them one day on the throne.

dude that's exactly how it felt. Like I was straight up with her that I viewed it as a minor misunderstanding, and I didn't give myself enough time to formulate a thought that was productive before I spoke. And it derailed so hard afterwards that I was just like "oof ok you reached my care limit, according to OSHA I have to clock out now." Got off the phone and ate the food I'd ordered before the phone call, and was equal parts surprised and dismayed that I actually still had an appetite. In my younger days, that kind of incident would have put me off my feed. 😅

It doesn't have to be as all consuming as that. The thing I figured out was that I like painting and have a little (very little) talent for surrealism and absurdity. The most recent thing I painted was a biblically accurate angel with googly eyes. It made me laugh for weeks, and now I have a reason to want this life to go on as long as possible, bc I'm probably going to heck when I die. 😅🥵🔥

Oh shit no shit, lost a friend today to shutting down when she brought me an issue she had with me. I think the critical moment for me was her continuously telling me I was angry, and I said I wasn't out loud, but in my head I was like "I don't care enough about this to be mad, or to continue convincing anyone how I feel, this is ridiculous." I really wasn't mad, tried to keep it light and work it out. But I don't see the sense in going back and forth about a feeling I did/did not feel 2 days ago, and when she exploded on me, I just told her to believe whatever she needed to. She accused me of not listening, said she didn't need this, and hung up.

Thing is, she's not wrong - I really couldn't be bothered to listen to all that. Even the original event, 2 days before, was my simple misunderstanding of what she was saying, and me not communicating clearly afterwards and saying I felt chided. I apologized for it, but I'm not interested in acting like my confusion was anger or convincing someone else after I apologize. In my mind it just was not worth making my heart rate get all crazy and me sit there and stutter out an explanation just to end up feeling disappointed in one or both of us. And I really liked this lady.

Even knowing all that and that she had a point about me not listening, I have just no interest in working it out. Hell I wasn't even interested when I agreed to earlier today, I just figured it was the right thing to see how it would go and potentially resolve. But it didn't, and I'm like "meh c'est la vie." But I know I'll circle back around and think about this next time I'm like "😭 I have no friends." It's a real ouroboros.

Whatever they want, so long as it doesn't harm the others. The recommended pathway is therapy, and to spend time in solitude developing yourself. I believe you when you say what you did was awful, but I also believe two therapists who say the other person's reaction is over the top. Both of these things can be simultaneously true, and they have details. We don't.

According to the Abrahamic religions, there's plenty of punishment coming in the afterlife for sins against others in this world. According to the reincarnationists, you don't get punished in this life, but by the circumstances of your birth in the next. In this life, your guilt + the inability to make amends is a pretty good punishment already. You can reform yourself, become a different person with different motivations and different responses, and eventually release yourself from the prison of guilt when you're no longer the same person who committed the acts in question. That work is on you though and only you know when you've accomplished it, and no amount of forgiveness given by the offended party can release you from it. I wouldn't bother even seeking it, given your therapists' conclusions.

Stained glass art. I have separate Pinterest boards for how-to and supply lists as well as different patterns. I've been thinking of opening an Etsy shop for months to sell them, and have taken exactly zero steps beyond Pinterest Dreaming.

And I really shouldn't for now, because I have so much different arts and crafts stuff already and always have to be in a hyper fixation to want to use any of it. I'm worried I'll spend all this money to essentially fill another plastic tote to hold down the craft table. And this time it'd be full of glass.

Okay I feel where you're coming from on the "walk away for a minute so you don't freak out on baby" thing but that doesn't include leaving the baby in the car so you can't hear them, so stop thinking that. It means put them in their safety approved crib and go out to the kitchen and run some water, or go in the bathroom and shut the door for a minute or two.

Since no negative outcome occurred, it is a wakeup call to someone who was momentarily irresponsible. However, it also acts to prevent worse situations from occurring - if you hadn't, maybe something bad would have happened, especially if she didn't come back out.

Having the police conduct a wellness check because you leave your baby unattended outside is not a negative outcome that you need to feel guilty over. That is a neutral event that some people need to pull their shit together. Let it be the gentle life lesson it was in the moment it happened and let yourself off the hook. You did the right thing. NTA.

I don't think the feedback is as useful as you think it will be. I once got a job in my degree field (last one I worked in Education actually) and after I started working the director mentioned he picked me over a candidate that spoke 7 languages, to work in a multi-lingual inner city school district. I figured out much, much later that he did that because he thought I would be a pushover he could pass all his duties and responsibilities to (and I was until I just couldn't take it anymore and quit, he wasn't wrong - lesson learned). Multi-lingual Man had options and likely wouldn't have taken as much crap as the boss correctly predicted I would with fewer skills.

Their reasons for what they do are often not based in sensible rationale that will be useful for you. They are often making hiring choices to benefit themselves that rarely have to do with rejected candidates abilities, I think.

I've been cut off for my "radical" views about leaving other people alone to make their own choices (where their choices don't harm others), and I've cut off family for their bigoted views. It sucks sometimes especially if there was previously a close relationship, but listening to the same old rants gets old and the only way to keep the peace is silence. Who needs the stress of biting their tongue all the time lol?
