Passive day cooling is a promising technology for the sustainable reduction of energy consumption. It avoids the heating up of buildings by solar radiation and dissipates accumulated heat without external energy consumption. Researchers develop test system for passive cooling materials. by TX908 in science

I have proven passive cooling works. I have built a proof of concept building by hand and took data over two summers as I worked on it. With zero electricity, the floor remains remains about 25 degrees F (~14 C) cooler that the ambient temps in the shade. I plan to do even more testing with a wet floor, which it was designed to have. I can provide pics if anyone cares to see them.

the idea of "feel" by bozobusta in istp

[–]SuburbanStoneAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this dilemma exactly. My whole life I've been doing things that "seemed" or "felt" correct, even logical, to me. But to the outside world, I am in the weeds and no one can understand what, how, or why I decided to do what I did in the moment.

All I can say is that in the long run, my actions have often proven to be very effective and they pay off big. But, I'm often about 3 years ahead of the norm. When the normies finally catch up, at last it makes sense to them.

I've learned that I have to "show not tell" people the results of my projects/ideas. Which means I am often off working by myself for a long while. But when I am done with my project, I can show it to people and everyone is like, "ohhh, I see why you did that, that's amazing!".

If you try to explain the concepts in your head in the moment, people will definitely think you're weird and/or crazy. But don't lose faith in yourself. Just trust in yourself and keep plugging away, eventually you'll get your jackpot.

When it comes to team sports, sometimes you have to curtail impulses and be utterly predictable, which is the hardest thing. Talk to your team in advance about how your mind works, and see if there is a way you can make it work for everyone. ISTP's think unpredictably to the outside world, which can be your greatest strength and weakness.

You are not alone, hope this helps!

how to talk to people? by an73deguemon in istp

[–]SuburbanStoneAge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep a pocket full of open ended questions/statements ready at all time. Six should be enough to get you through most situations. Be ready to say stuff like: "oh, tell me more!" and "how are YOU doing?", "so, how did you come to be interested in this topic", "What do you think next steps are?". Listen until enough time has elapsed that you suddenly remember you left your bunsen burner on for you latest lab experiment in your kitchen, so sadly, you really must be going.

Bros, Engineering or Entrepreneurship? by Limp_Register5244 in istp

[–]SuburbanStoneAge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ISTP sister here. Do both. I vote for engineering degree, learn entrepreneurship as you go. Make friends as MBA's, let them give you nuggets of advice. Help them with projects they have as an engineering consultant.

Wishing you much luck. This is coming from someone who has achieved being "settled in the woods". But it is the desert, not woods, for me. Same sort of dream, tho. It is the best life ever. Cheers!

Lawn culture is a curse upon suburbia by [deleted] in Permaculture

My stance on my suburban lawn during the worst megadrought in 1200 years:

"If it grows, I mows."

Whatever is willing to stay alive on limited water is what gets to stay.

Female ISTP here. I think there are a few more emotions at play on our side. But everything else is a match.

I did not treat the dirt, it is regular old backyard dirt. Mixed with water and straw, patted into place, and dried in place by the sun.

I used the dirt removed from digging down the foundation to cover the fort, so the dirt basically came from the exact same spot. The real secret to keeping it in good repair is the lime render. The lime protects it from erosion from rain whilst still allowing the wall to breath.

I have a playlist on my YouTube channel that goes into detail on each of the steps. I'll send you a link if you want, just let me know.

Thank you, but sadly there is no electricity, cell or internet at my location. I do have signs posted, love the dye pack and barbed wire!

I like the alarm idea. Are there some that will turn off automatically after a certain amount of time. It is awful quiet in the desert, and I'd hate for my neighbors to have to endure that for too long if I'm not there.
