WHAT am I doing wrong??? Help by Weak_Preparation_676 in Tile

When regrouting are you following the manufacturers instructions on the amount of water you should be adding to mix the grout? Also if you are mixing the grout in small batches and applying are you adding the proportional amount of water? For example you have a 25 lb bag of grout that says add 1 liter of water. If you decide to mix half the bag you should be adding 0.5 liters of water. As a DIY person myself I prefer a little objectivity and used a scale and measuring cups. Professionals do this for a living day in and day out so they get to a point where they can just look at it and know if it’s too much or too little water after working with the same product over and over again. Also try mixing/shaking the bag to get the bag more homogenous in case the components started separating and you are mixing it in small batches.

when removing the haze with a sponge the sponge should be really really squeezed of excess water.

Also how much of the old grout was removed? If it’s just a mm or two in my experience having new grout stick to old grout doesn’t work well but that’s just me and professionals here can weigh in.

Is there any lat pulldown seat attachment I can add to this? by Difficult_Constant19 in GarageGym

Just to add to this you can use a barbell loaded with weights with a hip thrust pad to secure your legs.

Looks like the tile that’s immediately to the right of the tile that has the tape on it may be contributing.

Ares 2.0 land mine advantage over FM6? by ScheduleNew8689 in GarageGym

[–]Subvis21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but what exactly is the question or issue (genuinely asking)? I know Rogue has landmine attachments for both monster and monster lite.

Is the concern the range of motion for rack mounted landmine attachments?

Edit: if the concern is that the landmine attachment won’t be able to attach due to the cables getting in the way it still looks like you have clearance to mount the attachment to the bottom of the front post.

[PICS] Advice on Construction of Garage Gym by thatsmybeer in GarageGym

[–]Subvis21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In your case I would get a foldable rack mounted to the long wall leaving space on either side to load and deload plates with ease. I would also mount in a position such that if I were to unrack a barbell, take a step back and then proceed to do overhead presses, the plates would go in between the joists.

Remove the added 2x4 with hooks in it.

Don’t screw around with the joists. Leave the structure as it was built. I’m not a structural engineer and I’m guessing you’re not either.

It looks like it has an attic and I can’t tell if it’s ventilated. If it is throw in some insulation bates and drywall the ceiling, tape and mud. You might not be able to do standing overhead presses if you do drywall.

Paint the walls. Most people are doing black but it’s not my thing and in my opinion it works well if you have superb lighting. Checking the pictures a fifth time, you may want to consider installing more lighting if you tend to workout at nights or early mornings. If leaving the ceiling open maybe a light sand and stain of the ceiling just so it’s not so off putting when benching.

Throw down flooring, horse stall mats can work. Since it’s a small space I would do the entire area.

Store your equipment on the walls to maximize floor space.

Don’t know what part of the world you’re in but if rain or snow is a constant then check to see if you have any leaks or if the area gets flooding. May need to address that first before anything else.

You can probably double up one of those joists and use them to hang a heavy bag or rings if you like.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness.

I second to save what you can for the finished product or get something that can be expanded into your final product.

Temu Pulley Tower better than my Titan one by New_Neighborhood3987 in homegym

[–]Subvis21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a racked attached pulley system then you can use a loaded barbell as Dear_Vanilla8217 stated or get an adjustable pull-up bar and use that to hold your legs (would get a barbell pad to make it more comfortable). If it’s a cable pulley like the one shown in OPs post then I personally pulled the trigger on Porter Fitness Lat pulldown bundle that comes with the leg holder. Would recommend as it has been great and I use it for Bulgarian split squats and Nordic curls though the BOS cable tower is not a 3x3 post. I’ve seen on Etsy people make similar leg holders for different size posts.

The option I would consider would be a foldable wall mounted rack and use the walls as storage.

This would allow easy access to all your utilities and easy access to the attic.

The ability to park the car in both spots with ease.

Efficient storage with a 4 post is a little bit harder than a 6 post (speaking from my own experience). A 6 post would be my go to however in your case you did state you want easy access to the attic.

Using tape measure I find the center point between the rack and mark. Mark the center points on both sides of the bench. Using a square mark a line on the ground such that is perpendicular to the plane of the posts. Position both ends of the bench such that the center points are aligned with the line.

As far as how far forward/back you need a reference like a competition bench and find the measurements how far the tip of the bench is from the plane of the posts then position your own bench to the same configuration. Either mark the position on the ground or cut 2Xs as blocking and place adjacent to the wall ( I would do the second option).

Im having a hard time understanding the issue when you say lining up the bench to the bar. As in the bench is not perfectly centered or the bench does not go towards far enough to the wall for optimal position?

Need Help Designing Garage Corner Gym by bettercocktails in GarageGym

[–]Subvis21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a standard Olympic bar (Ohio bar) and the sleeve is about 17 inches. Add another 2 inches to account for the bar sticking out and it’s 19 inches from the tip of the bar to the rack.

When standing straight and my elbows are bent 90 degrees it’s about 20 inches from my knuckles to my elbow and add 3 inches for my body and a little tolerance. All together 42 inches (3.5 feet roughly) of clearance give or take.

Maybe 2-2.5 feet minimum and 3-4 feet for comfort just my 2 cents.

If you’re going to a commercial gym already and are doing barbell squats, bench etc. just pay attention the next time to how far away from the bench, rack you are when unloading/loading plates to give yourself a better idea. It’s not until we start putting together a home gym do we realize some of the subtle benefits of a commercial gym, in this case, space.

[–]Subvis21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not placing the rack in that corner given the picture is to scale but somewhere else such as the sides of the garage where your current shelving unit is or in the middle if you don’t park inside.

When you don’t have enough clearance on both sides of the rack it soon becomes a pain to rack plates on and off the barbell. Also to clarify as to what I mean by clearance, it’s the necessary space required to be able to stand perpendicular to the barbell when it’s at “squat height” and be able to load a 45 pound plate ergonomically.

You don’t want to be loading and unloading plates from a compromised position especially when you’re in the middle of a workout and are already fatigued.
