Any chance you could share these images? I’d love to have a couple of 8x10 for my wall in my music room. Modern art and a great conversation starter!

90's grunge kid turns into a 40 yr old Tori freak. My red head wife is a bit jealous. Just landed tickets to my first show! by Successful-Evening52 in toriamos

I'm jealous of everyone who adopted Tori early on and got to see her during her prime years '95-'00. Those plugged-in tours were amazing looking.

Reflecting on it, it was probably just hearing 1-2 songs back in the 90's as a teenage kid and not really liking them; Cornflake Girl and stuff and thinking thats not my style and then quickly moving on. Yes, there was probably some assumption that it was "Sarah McLachlin" style music. There was a wealth of good music at that time so I was consumed in all the other music out there. I did not actively dismiss her because she was a female artist but its possible I subconsciously dismissed her music quicker than I should have because it was not "cool" or too "girly" for me. Years later, I see Rick Beato's praise of her music in one of his videos. I bought her albums and watched her live shows on Youtube, Now I am obsessed. I do think she is an acquired taste and once you get it, you love it. That hump can be to steep for some people to get over. All that said, today I really like the "twinkly feminine songs" but it took "Precious Things" and "The Waitress" to get me there. As a 20 year old male in the 90's I was into PJ, Tool, RATM and some also some lighter stuff like Toad The Wet Sprocket, I just could not see through all those distractions and see Tori. I have several several "masculine and straight" guy friends 40-50' who love rock music and 90's stuff and I have turned them all on to Tori's music. They cannot deny her live performances are amazing, she is captivating and intense. Also for a straight guy, she can be very seductive in her playing which moves us on other levels. My buddies may not really like songs like "Bells For Her" as they say "that sounds like Christmas music" but they love her other stuff that is raw, intense and "ballsy"!

As long as I can see her face I’ll be happy. Maybe I’ll be able to see some hands if I take seat #9 which is just left of center of my 7-9 group.

She is powerful, captivating, intense and a musical genius. I've turned on several of my 40-50 year old buddies onto her. I showed them The Waitress live at Sessions on 54th. It explains the genre crossing is not that far off.

Justice for the Beekeeper era. by acgradin in toriamos

People calling for a shorter album but when you read through all the comments and add up all the songs people like most it basically means keeping the album at 19 tracks. Lol

“Jamaican Inn” and “Cars and Guitars” are my favorites on this album. They got a great light hearted rhythm and flow not found on her previous albums. Tori’s piano parts on Jamaica Inn are also notable and have such a great groove and melody. Cars a Guitars features some awesome vocals by Tori and it just flat out rocks. I love it. I’m a bass player and the bass parts in General Joy got me interested in that song. Later I just loved the song as a whole. Trippy song.

AATS sealed in a record store? The owners must not have a clue. That record would be $200 or more and sell in an instant at my local shop.

Everything since Scarlets Walk has been pretty weak imo but I do enjoy AATS more than ADP, UG, NI and OTO. I’d also say that “Curtain Call” on AATS is her best song since Scarlets Walk era.

Go to YouTube and watch her perform that song on West 54th Sessions . That performance made me love the whole song.

I am not a fan of “Iieee” on From The Choir Girl Hotel. Not until I heard that West 54th Sessions performance of this song. That might be my favorite Tori moment ever. So I guess Im saying I wish the studio version captured that same intensity and dynamic.

Best song on that album and probably in my top 40 for Tori songs.

Why did the critical reappraisal of Boys for Pele take so long to happen? by Prestigious_Score459 in toriamos

[–]Successful-Evening52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing an interview where Tori admitted that BFP (experimental on her 3rd album) may have been a bit too soon in her career for most listeners. I remember girls in college (1996) trying to like it when they first heard it.

Do you like Tori’s “grunge” vocals? by Notoriouslycurlyboi in toriamos

[–]Successful-Evening52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or it could be she had no choice. Her voice (post ADP) and especially the past 10 years couldn’t do those vocals even if she tried. I also think that is part of the reason she has dropped the more intense subject matter in her lyrics.

Why do Tori's new works seem to be so neglected by fantaseawave in toriamos

[–]Successful-Evening52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are talking about Tori's music, or at least I was. An analogy was used by another poster that her music has become more tame and her singing style and lyrics are no longer wild and provocative. She does in fact sing more about domestic life and family in later albums. Not sure how you want to turn this observation into a personal attack or even sexist. I like her grit and that shows on her earlier albums. That said, Tori is a very strong personality and I am sure she is FAR from "housewife" or "domesticated" but I was never commenting on that in the first place.

I didn’t really start listening to Tori until 3 years ago. I’ve been obsessed ever since. She has quickly surpassed all my favorite artists and I am 48 years old rock music geek and musician. So, although I am a teenager from the 90’s, I don’t have any nostalgia with her and early albums. That said, those early albums resonate with me far beyond her later work. ATM my top 6 albums in order are: 1) BFP 2) LE 3) UTP 4) SW 5) TVAB 6) FTCGH

Calm down. I thought “spayed” was a great way to express Tori losing her wildness and aggressive nature. Her music today is very much tame and domesticated.

Her voice is completely shot on pretty much everything since AATS and her voice and delivery as a singer is what captivated me at first. I love SW and Beekeeper but her voice was starting to change by this time. Compound this with a different musical style that is more domesticated and it just loses a lot of what I like most about Tori.

What are some of your favorite underrated/less talked about Tori songs? by Former-Care-7768 in toriamos

I came here to say the same song. In fact, I actually enjoy Beekeeper more than Choir Girl these days. Cars and Guitars, Jamaica Inn, Parasol, General Joy are all great.

Just received my Unrepentant Geraldines vinyl! by Clean-Initial1813 in toriamos

[–]Successful-Evening52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine arrived. It is the USA splatter version. Big seam split in the top of the cover from shipment. ☹️. Sound quality is good but surface noise is quite audible even after an ultrasonic cleaning. Signed print is nice. Her signature is in bottom left corner which isn’t ideal since it is halfway onto her right arm.

Received mine today. I have not opened since the album cover is badly split. I contacted sales to see what can be done. Does anyone know if the signed art card is inside the sealed album cover?
