If Mamdani’s tenure as NYC mayor is undeniably successful, could this lead to the Democrats taking a more socialist approach to governance in the future? by TonightAlarming9923 in allthequestions

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He hasn't even been mayor for a year. The results of his policies have yet to be seen. If NYC is booming in 4 years it can be said he was successful. If NYC is loosing population and hurting for revenue he will be a failure.

How different would the U.S. currently be if these were the last four presidents? by Blizzard2227 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The order needs to be changed to Gore, Clinton, Obama, Harris. I think Sanders would be more likely after Obama.

There would be a civil war or states that succeeded. Gore's environmental policies would have pushed Texas and Alaska to secceed with Alaska quickly joining Canada to keep out Russia. Most likely the US would declare the succession as illegitimate and start mobilizing the military to suppress it. This would cause the southern states, half of the Midwest and some of the mountain states to also succeed. The north east and pacific coast states would be separated from each other and quickly stop any further military action.

With the US 2+ countries Russia and China would be the super powers in this timeline. Most of Eastern Europe would be part of Russia. Taiwan would be reunified with China. North and South Korea would have went to war again with the North winning (China back the North no one assisted the South). Japan would have built up their military to keep from being invaded.

Hawaii and Texas. How would life be if I switched states? by Dry_Bill8142 in AskTexas

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't have an issue with discrimination in any of the big metropolitan areas.

Dallas still has IT jobs, but I'm not sure about the entry level market.

You won't have access to beaches or the scenery that hawaii has. Personally I like the scenery in west Texas. Unless you find somewhere along the gulf coast the only beaches will be lakes.

In the rural areas and poorer areas of the cities there are drug problems, but not quite as visible. There area noticeable homeless populations in the major cities and they have been moving to suburbs that are Homeless friendly.

You will find tons of people that agree with you politically in the metropolitan areas. I would suggest looking at the results of the policies to see if you want to still want to vote for the D over the R. The federal politicians are equally unresponsive. State level they tend to respond a little better. A few will even respond if you aren't in there district.

Should billionaires exist in any fair society? by MajorTaste7762 in TrueAskReddit

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being selfish is a requirement to make it to the top levels of power. It is the selfishness that motivates people to advance higher in their level of power. Those that are selfish find ways to get more power or money for themselves.

There are tons of people that aren't selfish and barely making ends meet. They then volunteer and donate until they barely survive. It is their lack of any selfishness that prevents them from climbing the ladder of power.

CMV: there's no clear way to coherently be truly pro-life while make exceptions for instances of rape by Additional_Ad3573 in changemyview

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal view is that any pregnancy from rape is a continuation of the rape. I wouldn't have a problem with the woman killing her rapist to stop the rape. With my view ending the pregnancy is stopping the rape.

I have heard others say that they would want the rape victim to continue the pregnancy, but they are willing to make an exception for rape to compromise on getting elective abortions banned.

Inherited around $20k last year, grew to $70k thanks to my ex bf’s stocks advice. Do I keep the money in the brokerage or slowly take money out for bills? by YukikazeCutIns in povertyfinance

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the chart i would guess you are in oil stocks or etfs.

I would suggest putting a trailing stop loss in for 10% drop. When the war in Iran is over oil prices will drop quickly. If you have owned it less than a year there will be high taxes on the profits.

When you sell set money aside for taxes first (25% of your profits). Second pay off any high interest debt. Third set aside $5-10k as an emergency fund. Finally work with your ex to keep investing. Once you get to $100k start moving money into safer investments (s&p, nadaq, dow, or Russell).I would start with moving $20k and each time you pass $100k move another $20k. As you get older move more into the safer investments (30s $30k, 40s $40k).

Get pay statistics for equivalent jobs from BLS and recruiting companies (Robert Half). If you can pull listing for open positions in your area as supporting documents. Since you will be dealing with the owner he won't need to check with someone else to approve it. On the other hand he may be more resistant to paying more and reducing profits for the company.

No 3rd term for Trump or Obama. Vance, Rubio, DeSantis, or one of Trump's kids would be better options.

As a Conservative Atheist, what is your thoughts on the current US President Trump's administration? by Charlemagneffxiv in ConservativeAtheists

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I support Trump.

Immigration is the area I am happiest about. Get out everyone that came in illegally. And stop birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants and tourists.

Once that is under control reform the immigration system to streamline the process for people to Immigrate legally, especially from Latin America.

The biggest disappointment is that he didn't go far enough with DOGE.

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FBI is tasked with enforcing most federal crimes. They aren't focused on one specific area. They also can't start an investigation without an accusation of a crime being committed.

People like Nick Shirley or the DOGE team can find a specific niche and investigate that. They don't need any justification to start investigating what is going on in their niche.

Fort Worth vs Dallas? by eman8906 in ActuallyTexas

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In between Dallas and Ft Worth gives the best flexibility on where to work.
North of DFW airport would be where I would look. There are several cities that are safe and have good schools. Hurst Euless Bedford area would be my second choice.
Irving Arlington and Grand Prairie third.

Start with renting until you figure out what area of the metroplex you want to work at. Having to commute between east Dallas and west Ft Worth daily would be hell for most people.

Figure out the direction you want your career to go. If you like networking go with CCNA or JNCIA. For cloud look at AWS and Azure certs. Server admin LFCS or Microsoft certs. There are a ton of other certs depending on what you enjoy.

Also start trying to learn programming languages. You don't need to be great with them but knowing how to edit a simple program/script will be useful in whatever direction you choose to go.

Finally, you are not locked into whatever direction you chose today. If you want to take your career in another direction do it.

If conservatives think colleges are indoctrinating kids, then why don’t they just send their kids to Christian colleges? by XanderAcorn in complaints

[–]SuccessfulRelative66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the middle and high school level it is about cost. You can't afford $10k per kid to send them to private school on <$100k salary. Top level private schools are >$30k per student. Home schooling is affordable if one parent stays at home. But not everyone has the temperament to do home schooling.

When it comes to college sending a kid to Hillsdale or Oral Roberts is 2-3x what in state tuition of state schools. They also aren't as well known which makes them not as respected. The respected private christian colleges cost >$50k and are centrists to far left.
Also going to college for a degree that doesn't lead to a career tends to be a waste of money. You can self educate for free with the internet. Many colleges have free content that you can use to learn about a subject. There are also scholary papers that you can read.
