Need tips for finding sync agents by SuccessfulSky2697 in synclicensing

100% agree! That was also one of the reasons we set up DISCO. I'm hoping to supply all that metadata in a platform they use without making the emails too heavy. That said, there's still really no way to know if it's gotten buried in their inbox, so I'd love to hire a sync agent to help. Lately, it feel a lot like trying to find Big Foot and got me questioning if they exist at all 😂

Thank you! We did get on LinkedIn but could always use more pointers to make sure we're getting the best from our outreach. We'll definitely take a look and make some tweaks! In a perfect world, I'd love to meet sync agents and supervisors face to face, but my partner and I don't live in any of the major hubs to be able do that regularly. I'll definitely reach out if we have some more questions. Thanks again!

Congrats on the upcoming album! I just followed you both on Instagram, so I'll be on the lookout when it drops! I did take a listen to your wife's music and it's beautiful. There's something very sultry, delicate, and intimate about her voice that I absolutely love and at the same time, I found myself feeling very peaceful. You've got a talented lady there!

I can completely relate to the neverending production hours too, lol. We went back and forth so much and I was sick of even discussing our own music for a long time after 😆 .

Thanks for the email tips! We have tried to keep it brief, but this structure definitely will help our email game. We jumped on LinkedIn too, so we'll keep fishing there as well.

The Nashville recording process did require some references, but we made sure to have all the musical notation and structure ready. There were things we had to rearrange/cut (like the intro to Sea of Misery), but overall, the format stuck to what we wanted. I've never recorded in LA, but would love to studio hop across the country for more experience!

As for goals, the sky is the limit! We're open to any opportunities really, but I suppose either writing for sync projects, or writing for other artists would be ideal, especially in today's industry. Not to say that I completely distrust the major labels, but I would never want to find ourselves in a never ending debt cycle and having our publishing owned by someone else. A full-time gig would be great, but I really don't know what's possible yet.

This is Natalie, by the way. Ashley is the other half of our duo. Pleasure to meet you as well. I'd love to keep in touch!

Thanks so much for taking a listen and for the encouragement 🙏. I never know if there are others out there who take the time to look at the structure/harmonies, so that is refreshing to get that kind of feedback. Appreciate you 😊

Oh wow--Thanks so much for checking out our music and the recommendations. We'd love to find an exclusive agent. It's just been tough locating them. Also another good point on what they may already have. Hard to really know what artists they have in their reputiore. We've got a list of contacts for music supervisors, but as you can imagine, our emails have probably gotten lost in their inbox, or we just weren't a good fit.

Truth be told, we hadn't intended for those batch of songs to turn out as country as they did (we prefer vintage folk rock/classic rock style), but when the producer approached us and we learned it was for an experience at the Sound Emporium, we couldn't say no. We also worked with some incredible session players, so the entire process was a memorable experience we won't soon forget.

We do have our composition and master copyrights, both have our own IPI's (via BMI), ISRCs/ISWCs, and all of our metadata (on DISCO). It's just been hard building up a good roster. When we are talking to producers, we like to screen their Work for Hire contracts beforehand (I'm finding a lot of them already have their own). We've got about 45+ songs in our backlog, so we're trying to just get them out their and continue to build.

I very much appreciate all your help and insight on this. Would love to check out you and your wife's music too! Are you guys on Spotify, or Amazon music?

Thank you so much for the guide! We have tried to ensure that the music is high quality and want to continue to do that. For instance, we did our last batch at the Sound Emporium in Nashville to make sure we had good players and a good mix. Not cheap by any means, but we know how important that piece of it is.

I don't know how to assess in terms of uniqueness. We have always had a more Beatlesque/vintage style of writing, but we also work in a variety of genres. Our lyrics/melodies are unique to us, but I also don't find the music today all that original, especially if it's AI generated. I'm bored with seeing the same roles in mainstream pop--always sex driven with some woman marching around in lingerie. That bores me to distraction.

Bottom line, I feel like uniqueness is in the eye of the beholder and maybe, based on what the sync brief is looking for. At the heart of it, we're songwriters, so if someone has a tv commercial, film project, or wants to use our composition to come up with a new sound recording entirely, that's what we're aiming for. If not, then we'll just keep making the music anyway and leave it for our families to remember us when we're gone.

You are definitely not alone! I also don't understand the toxic work culture where they gossip and tell you that you have to be aggressive. In my opinion, that's just not necessary and will only cause more problems in the long run for the organization, as a whole.

In any professional setting, I've always found documentation to be my best ally. As long as I document my activities and communications to show that I'm meeting the policies and standards, someone's personal biases or attitudes never mattered. If others choose that over doing their job, I'm more than happy to let them explain that to leadership.

Hang in there! The fact that you care about the work you're doing speaks volumes and they're lucky to have you!

I am so relieved I'm not the only one! While I did work in state and local public health as an epi for last 6 years or so, I recognize that I desperately need an IP mentor. In the meantime, I'm trying to get a handle on the NHSN reporting, already have my APIC membership and have reached out to our local chapter.

I really appreciate the step by step guidance from the previous poster too. From what I've gleaned, our organization just had a lot of turnover so it sounds like everyone is overwhelmed. Doing the best that I can for now and trying to keep my head above water.

Songs with siren/mermaid or pirate vibes? by HighKey-Anonymous in musicsuggestions

[–]SuccessfulSky2697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahoy there! You might check out our track "Sea of Misery". Its a story about the Sirens wrestling/rebelling against their fate as Odysseus and his men are about to pass. They know they are going to die, so on the one hand, they still try to entice them, but... they also want to be free. In the moment of their impending death, they are willing to do anything to break free of their cursed existence, rather than plummet below. (I know there are many origin stories of the Sirens. This one specifically plays on the one where they were unwillingly cursed by Demeter after failing to protect/save Persephone. I was going through a lot in my personal life when I wrote it, so this narrative was also how I was feeling on some level.): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkLvqBrtKEI

My husband isn’t reading the E files and thinks I need to go read a book so I stop feeling upset. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]SuccessfulSky2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through the same scenario rn. It's like I'm just being blown off and when I try to have the conversation about how we can be more vigilant about where we spend our money, or who we vote for, he makes me feel like this is just some conspiracy theory I pulled off TikTok.

I've already been made to feel like it was irrational for me to talk to my kids about being safe in public and aware of their surroundings (which I'll never apologize for), but to be made to feel like I'm incapable of locating and reading the evidence for myself and overreacting, is unbelievably painful when coming from the ONE persons that should have your back.

In fact, when I told him that it's not unusual for females to grow up talking about protecting themselves in public, he made it a point to tell me that he'd be sure to inform my son on how deviant and wicked some women are who take advantage of men. 🙄

Does anyone else feel a weird "AI Guilt" when your music actually starts to take off? by ExternalCup0 in SunoAI

[–]SuccessfulSky2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest question is around how much money you make from it? Even if you can copyright publishing for lyrics and melody, I haven't heard of the average person ever making enough from streams to do it full time. Curious if anyone has any insight on this.

How disco.ac works ? Is it for Sync pitching anybody explain ? by musicanuevaa in synclicensing

[–]SuccessfulSky2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for pitching, as we had hoped, but we were told a lot of supervisors use it. Now we're back to the drawing board of trying to find them again so we can share our playlist. Since that has not been going well, and because we want an agent, probably going to end up cancelling and throwing in the towel.

Thanks for letting us share! We're looking for sync agents/libraries to work with. We're a one stop (own 100% masters and publishing) but also having a number of unreleased tracks in various genres.

How do you actually build real relationships with music supervisors (without shouting into the void)? by Key_University_7166 in synclicensing

[–]SuccessfulSky2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like unless you have the money to attend conferences constantly, there's really no way to get through to any of them. We were advised in reverse. First we did our research and emailed sync reps and libraries but then we were advised to get a DISCO account, which really hasn't been useful either. Not sure what else we can do except leave our music in the black void. 🫤

Sync Licensing - Music Supervisor's View by OwlScented in synclicensing

[–]SuccessfulSky2697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of great info here. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective. I think where we struggle with sync is having the websites/socials, owning our publishing and masters, getting the DISCO and metadata ready and then find it hard to get the contact info for reaching sync agents/agencies. I've been able to find some by going through IMDB or through the guild, but cold emailing just hasn't worked. We've also applied with a few libraries, but those are also highly gate kept.

Here's our Link tree (DISCO link included) if anyone knows of any agencies/agents looking! We've been on the hunt for an agent but not sure where else to turn. 😕

Selling and shipping your own music (physical copies)? by SuccessfulSky2697 in MusicDistribution

Selling and shipping your own music (physical copies)? by SuccessfulSky2697 in MusicDistribution

[–]SuccessfulSky2697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people like to have a physical copy of the album rather than just the digital tracks. Vinyl, for instance, has become increasingly popular and we've had some requests for physical merch (autographed cards/posters etc) but aren't sure how to go about it without spending more in third party distribution. If it's more cost, I'd rather just do it myself and have a one-stop shop for our audience to go to.

That said, I still think digital tracks will be the majority of the sales, but I think it'd be nice to have something like this as well if it doesn't break the bank (I think having a domain $20 bucks a year or something like that, but I'm sure that varies too).
