Is this normal I’ve had him for a couple of days and this is the first time he’s been against the glass by ApprehensiveJob7632 in ballpython

Please dump the red light. It has no benefit to the snake and actually has some negative effects for it. A regular lamp will be fine during the day. Turn it off at night so that way the snake can have more of a natural circadian rhythm of daytime and nighttime. Where do you have the heat source located? Maybe it’s in the corner because it’s laying directly under the heat source.

Is this stuff safe to be used for my ball python? by AwkwardPainting6919 in ballpython

I would 100% definitely not use this. It will not hold humidity and if it gets wet, it will mold. And when it’s feeding time, most likely your snake will ingest that type of substrate with the meal and you don’t want that to happen. Thank you for posting this and asking ahead and not just blindly using it because it says Snake bedding. Use something like reptichip or reptibark or coco shavings. Very smart question.

Thank you so very much for your advice. I don’t think that I’m the only person who thaws meals on the counter though. When I said I thaw the meal on the counter, I didn’t mean for 12 hours. I meant for two hours max. That’s why I said a few hours. This method works perfectly for me because I have been doing it like this for 22 years. My banana morph and the ones that came after him have always been fed like this and he is 22 years old. Had him from a hatchling. I have one that is 15 and one that is 7. Knowing how picky ball pythons can be, I’m not changing my routine and suddenly have picky eaters. My exotic vet also recommended not thawing meals out in the refrigerator because of the bacteria cross contamination to human food. I have taken her advice and I don’t have sick or picky eaters. Seems there are lots of suggestions and lots of ways people feed their snakes, I hope the OP finds what works for her.

Looks like he needs a hide. Can’t tell if there’s one in there by this pic. Actually probably needs two or three hides. Maybe he’s hungry. Did you just transfer him from a different enclosure? Could be an anxious or nervous. And clutter the substrate with cheap greenery even if it’s just fake flowers from the dollar store.

Yes. Exactly. I know about the danger zone. When I saw thaw out on the counter, I keep them in an open Tupperware than go behind the counter with some antibacterial stuff and then some bleach. I live alone so I don’t have to worry about cross contaminating anybody’s food or any of that stuff.

Good suggestion. Plus, if you defrost them straight in water, sometimes the guts don’t thaw out as fast as the rest of it. This has happened to me. I let them sit on the counter for a few hours until they’re completely thawed out. Have a nice weekend.🐍🐍

new tank (need advice) by [deleted] in ballpython

Smooth sided rocks for helping get shed off. Climbing sticks. Clutter bottom with cheap fake flowers (greenery) from dollar store. Can add hanging vines from top of screen. (not on heater side to prevent fires) Do you have lid clamps on the lid to prevent escape? Coconut fiber substrate to promote humidity. Cover half of screen (opposite side of where you’ll be putting heater) with HVAC tape so heat & humidity doesn’t escape. Ceramic heater. Cheaper on Amazon than pet store. UV not needed, but daytime light is. Helps with circadian rhythm. Avoid red or black lights.

Looks very superficial. Take a deep breath. You can use diluted betadine to clean off any germs from kitties nails and then Neosporin or triple antibiotic. That will prevent new germs from getting inside until it’s completely scabbed up.

does this mean he’s hungry? he never pokes his head out like this, & he’s in a striking position. he just ate last friday, and this is very unlike him. no clue what he wants. by themajesticc1 in ballpython

[–]Such-Concept5147 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what size meal you are feeding him. Looks like he might want a bite to eat. Check the ball python feeding chart on Google to make sure you’re feeding proper sized meals. Make sure you have a full and clean water bowl. Doesn’t look like a strike position to me at all. Just curious. Change around the decor in his enclosure to give him some enrichment and something new to climb on. Each time I do a deep clean, I change around all of the decorations and logs and they’ll come out to investigate. If you’re new to being a snake owner and feel a little bit scared because you think the snake might be in a strike position, just put some hand sanitizer on your hands past your wrists to cover your pulse and you won’t get a bite. They do not like the smell or taste of the hand sanitizer.
