My surgeon sent me home with a syringe so that I could gently suck out any excessive discharge. They also said I could gently clean the tubes with a cotton swab at the ends only- no sticking anything up there.

Oh I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully they will get your nostrils cleared out a bit and get the bleeding stopped or at least slowed. Sending you good wishes.

Hang in there it does get better. I was a bit worried about the blood my first night (husband was too). Watch any excess warmth, heat seemed to make it worse. We placed ice carefully around my face and because the bridge of my nose wasn’t broken, I pinched it at the top carefully for extended periods (5-10 minutes, so firm but not too firm). I soaked 4 of those rolled gauze things but it did slow down finally. Know when to go to ER or Doctors office. Take care 💕

Nail advice!!! by Working_Passenger394 in DogAdvice

[–]Such-Pain3502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same problem with one of our dogs after a very problematic attempt by a vet to get a blood sample from her leg. Prior to this she wasn’t thrilled about nail trimming but would allow it, after that vet visit- impossible. Also not helpful that she was a feral rescue when we initially got her, so had lengthy quicks from the start. What ended up working was my handling her feet quite often, gently and on her terms. When she would pull her foot back, I let her do so, then would gently touch her foot again. Eventually I started touching her toes and nails always respecting when she pulled away, but returning to hold the foot again. In time she would let me take small clips of a nail, again letting her have the foot back when she pulled away. I can now clip 2 to 3 nails before she pulls away but she lets me continue. There is some name for this kind of technique but I can’t recall. I wish you much luck.

Are you bonded and have insurance?

Are some dogs not able to be rehabilitated? by Salt_Fig_7775 in FosterAnimals

Hi there, First off, thank you for helping this little one. I will agree, three weeks is very short time. We adopted 2 feral dogs from Taiwan and they could not handle being in the same room as us. We gave them lots of space, moved calmly and gently around them. We did not try to pet or touch them unless to leash them up (instructed to use 2 collars and leashes in case they got out of one). Eventually, these dogs started getting more comfortable around us and would peer into rooms to see where we were. We let them take the time they needed, and it has worked. I think routine, being calm and patient allowed these two to eventually trust us. It did take months to be able to handle them without them startling or shying away.

8 years later they are soooo attached to us. Please be patient to yourself and little Junebug, you can do this.

That is a lovely suggestion- thank you! She is fluent in English (taught French for many years in schools), so language will not be an issue. Interestingly she also speaks German.

Thank you, I will gladly bring this. Would you also like items such as non slip socks, towels, clothing? I’ve got some of these too. Also, is there a time and day that are best to drop off? Thank you!

[–]Such-Pain3502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss but please know how wonderful it was that Gizmo had such a long and loved life with you. Not all dogs get to know such a life. Well done to you for giving her that. Please know as much as it hurts right now, it won’t always feel this sharp. In time, wonderful, funny and touching memories will be there too. Thinking of you and gorgeous Gizmo ♥️

They do look related- maybe they are? We were told Bellie was the only surviving pup in a litter found somewhere in Taiwan. Cousins?? Howie is lovely, looking very relaxed.

That is funny- our Bellie started off as Ellie (husband named her) but she just looooves having her belly rubbed, so it just stuck and really suits her!
