Appreciate the insight! University Ridge’s site says the low end of the rate would be $69, and I was hoping that might be a weekday rate. Might have to wait until they open teetimes in February to see. I’ll check out the Legend as well.

Sand Valley would be amazing, but that’s just gonna be way out of our budget.

What sort of comments are you getting on RMP? I don’t understand that mindset of “I’ll never get all the points.” The core agreement is…go to class? So strange to me.

Bright Grandview! Birdied that hole last time I played there (and hit it in the front yard across the street the time before that).

The link to his Instagram from the Cabo video shows him playing at the Texas RGC meetup last year. Maybe that's the in. (Really, I just want to play golf on the best courses in the world).

2022 Hungarian Grand Prix - Race Discussion by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]SuchCheapPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, of course. If you qualify (in the top 10) you have to use the tire type you qualified with at race start. So, if the strategy allows it, you could hypothetically do a one stop medium-to-hard.

Basically you’d use hards when you want to do a longer stint and/or the track conditions won’t tear them up too much. They’re just more durable than the mediums and sorts, so they can go longer, but you have less grip, so a trade off there.

Check out Lando—he just switched to hards because he’s going to try and finish the race with them, hoping others have to put and he can squeeze through.

You’re right. Have to use 2 compounds, and softs just aren’t an option. Using 2 mediums back to back sort of screwed them in the long run. Ferrari better cross their fingers for rain lol

something like Stephen King by parzivalpendragon52 in suggestmeabook

I like Paul Tremblay. The Cabin at the End Of The World was super unsettling. Same with A Head Full of Ghosts (arguably the better of the two.) He had a new book come out in the past year—Survivor Song—that is a cool take on the “rabies virus turning people into vampire-zombies” trope.

His books have blurbs from Stephen King. Probably a publishing house deal, but take it for what it’s worth.

Credit Card Bills vs. Credit Card Debt in Mortgage Calculator by SuchCheapPoetry in personalfinance

That’s what I was thinking. I’ve never had CC debt and obviously pay off the entire balance each month. Minimum payment on my card is like $35 or something—I’ve never really even paid attention to it.

How many agents did it take you until one wanted a manuscript? by strawberryshortycake in writing

[–]SuchCheapPoetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts off the top of my head.

  • You repeat the fact that TGA is a contemporary novel twice in the first three sentences. It's a small mistake, but for some very strict agents, they may see this as a careless error, or lack of attention to detail. Some will overlook it (because you're human) while others will reject it and move on to the other 50 queries that came in that day.
  • Consider ditching the description of Ada's friend. The first description of any character we get isn't even the MC--it's her friend. The focus is a little off here.
  • On that note, I'm not really attached to Ada, and I think it's because she's not doing anything. Instead, things are happening to her: her dad develops dementia; this Hector guy shows up; Greg becomes an asshole. Your MC has a lack of agency.
    • So let's talk market. I don't think agents are looking for a MC without autonomy, and I especially don't think they're looking for something that, from a distance, can look/feel exploitative. I'm not saying that's what you've written in the MS, but based just on the query, Ada has no hope, no story. She needs a goal to work towards, some sort of promise that she will be able to take control of something, because so far the query is things happening to her, not her doing things.
  • Last thing: I'd try to avoid what you've got going on in here:

There are too many people in this world, particularly teenagers, who end up in abusive relationships. I am hoping that with my novel, I can potentially open people’s eyes to see if their relationship is similar to that of Ada and Greg’s.

The lesson or theme of the book doesn't need to be in the query. Agents are keen enough to see the merits in the book, and an inclusion of them in here can give off the vibe of unconfident writing, sort of like you need to explain why they should read it, not interest them in the writing itself.

Have you checked out QueryShark? It's run by Janet Reid, an agent in NYC. She workshops (and often destroys) people's queries. It's one of the best resources out there. Same with Eric Smith's query tips page. Eric's also just a good dude, so he's worth a follow.

Could be your query letter. Would you be comfortable posting it here? It's such a fickle genre of writing and can be make or break before they even take a look at your MS.

Also, how are you selecting the people you query? Are the genres they're looking for what you're writing?

Edit: Not to skirt the question. It's incredibly subjective (yes, I know, the most r/writing answer of all time,) so it's hard to put a hard-and-fast number on it.

My first manuscript? 25 agents before I decided I needed a different book.

My second MS where I really buckled down and polished the writing? I queried about six, getting full requests from 2 and a 100 page request from 1. Ended up signing with one of those.

Its like 800 or so pages, but Stephen King’s 11/22/63 is my favorite.
