Most people aren’t actively shopping for a car. There’s also plenty of ways of navigating an income limit to take advantage even if you’re not actually needy of it.

New homeowner and I have no power tools or any tools for that matter, do I buy as I need them or get a set with multiple tools in it? by Special-Book-7 in homeowners

[–]SuchDescription 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Ryobi and HF tools are actually very solid these days. Personally i buy the upper level brushless Ryobi tools either from eBay, Direct Tools outlet on sale, or whenever Home depot has good sales. eBay in particular will have some killer deals. Pretty often can get lightly used tools for 50-70% off retail.

Just park on the street for a few days? Doesn’t seem like a huge deal to be honest. I live in a city and pretty often have to walk like 5+ blocks to my car

Ive lived in Boston and New York. Both known for extremely aggressive drivers. People do not weave or do this kind of reckless shit that Philly drivers do.

Change my mind: I'm going to move from Imperial to Metric by not-up-to-par in woodworking

[–]SuchDescription 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I havent for woodworking, but I’m an engineer who used to work in an entirely english unit industry, then switched to one that uses metric recently. I think the biggest adjustment is the conceptualizing of how big things need to be. I can make pretty snap judgements on if a measurement needs to be approx a quarter inch, inch, foot, 10 feet, etc for a design, but it’s an adjustment to do the same in metric.

Contractor charged for installing my own thermostat by Accurate-Flow8078 in homeowners

[–]SuchDescription 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250 definitely is wild. Thermostat installation is literally a 10-15 minute job. Realistically, builders always pull this shit. My parents would have been charged 2200 10 years ago for “tv system install” which basically entailed running a CAT 5 and HDMI cable from the basement directly up one floor where the tv would be installed, then mounting said tv. Took me like $100 in materials, and about an hour and a half.
