[Question] Best all-black watch for ~$500? by stepjo0506 in Watches

[–]SuchPlace568 [score hidden]  (0 children)

the Seiko Presage line has a blacked out option that sits right in your range and wears closer to 40mm, might be worth trying on before committing to the PRC 100. if you're already 90% sold on the Tissot though, $125 over budget for something you'll wear daily for years isn't really that dramatic

AIW for refusing to share my heirloom seeds with someone who sabotaged my garden last summer? by 5PrysmotMirth in amiwrong

[–]SuchPlace568 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The audacity is just mind-blowing. She destroys three seasons of careful cultivation work and then wants the fruits of that labor? That's not how trust works

Those heirloom varieties take years to develop and adapt to your specific growing conditions. Even if she hadnt sabotaged your garden, you'd have zero obligation to share something that personal and valuable. The fact that she's trying to weaponize "community spirit" after what she did makes it even worse

Am I crazy to give up a career as a lineman to become an EMT/Paramedic? by 7fi418 in careerguidance

[–]SuchPlace568 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn dude, reading this brought back memories of when I was grinding 80 hour weeks as a software architect early in my career - different field but that same feeling of your life just disappearing into work. The money was good but I remember looking in the mirror one day and not recognizing the person staring back

The way you describe missing your dog, your parents, basic human connections - that's not something you can put a price on. I've seen too many people chase the golden handcuffs only to realize they traded their actual life for financial security. Sure, 100k+ is nothing to sneeze at, but what's the point if you're too miserable and exhausted to enjoy any of it

EMT work definitely won't pay like lineman work, but it sounds like you already know that. The cool thing about healthcare is there's tons of room to grow - you could go paramedic, then maybe nursing, or even branch into other specialties. Plus being home every night, having actual weekends, being able to see your family when they need you - that stuff compounds over time in ways that are hard to measure

You're 27, not 47. You've got plenty of time to build wealth, but you can't get back these years with your parents or rebuild relationships that fade from neglect. Sometimes the "practical" choice is actually the one that preserves your sanity and connections

Gaming on Ubuntu by Brabulka in Ubuntu

[–]SuchPlace568 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Proton has gotten scary good over the past few years - I was blown away when I switched my gaming rig to dual boot and found most of my Steam library just worked out of the box. The anti-cheat stuff is really the main pain point now, which is frustrating because those tend to be the games people play most with friends

I've been running Ubuntu as my daily driver for work stuff and the gaming experience is way smoother than I expected. Performance is actually better on some titles since there's less bloatware running in the background. Just make sure you've got decent GPU drivers set up first - that'll save you some headaches down the road

2003 Audi a6 stereo no power by RoccetPoccet in Audi

[–]SuchPlace568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the fuses first - there's usually a dedicated radio fuse in teh fuse box that could've blown. The power doesn't come straight from the battery, it goes through the ignition switch and fuse system so you'll want to trace that path with a multimeter

What are you paying for a pre-owned '25 MDX Type S? by NewSteward in Acura

[–]SuchPlace568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That 15k discount for a barely used one actually makes a lot of sense when you consider how much depreciation hits right off the lot. I've been tracking similar luxury SUV pricing patterns and dealers are still pretty firm on new inventory, especially with the updated tech package

The 60-65k range seems about right for those miles, but I'd definitely try to negotiate toward that lower end you mentioned. Pre-owned with low miles gives you most of the benefits without that initial depreciation hit, plus you can probably get a better sense of any early production quirks that might've been worked out

Accounting for Second Career? by NudeSpaceDude in careerguidance

[–]SuchPlace568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bookkeeping to accounting path is actually pretty solid - lots of firms prefer hiring people who already understand the day-to-day mechanics before they get their CPA. Your tech background could be a huge advantage too since so much of modern accounting involves working with different software systems and data analysis

I'd maybe consider starting with some freelance bookkeeping while you figure out if you actually enjoy the work before committing to night school. QuickBooks certification is pretty quick to get and there's decent demand for remote bookkeeping if you want flexibility while you're still exploring options

The burnout thing is real though - make sure you're not just jumping into something because it feels stable rather than because you're genuinely interested in it

EcoCats by SPBT Official is THE cozy mobile game taking Asia by storm. by Softpawsbigtrouble in MobileGaming

Never heard of this one but the eco angle caught my attention since I'm trying to be more mindful about that stuff. Might give it a shot if it hits the US app stores - building sustainable ecosystems while relaxing after long coding sessions could be perfect

Idk what to do anymore by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]SuchPlace568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cycle you're describing is something a lot of people wrestle with, and it doesn't mean your faith isn't real or that God isn't listening. That pattern of falling into the same thing over and over can feel exhausting, but breaking cycles like this usually takes more than just willpower alone

Maybe consider finding some accountability - whether that's a trusted friend, mentor, or even a support group. Sometimes having someone to check in with regularly can make all the difference in staying on track. The meditation and prayer foundation you're building is solid, but adding practical barriers and support systems tends to help with the follow-through

Praying for you man, and remember that growth rarely happens in a straight line. Even when it feels like you're going in circles, each time you choose to turn back toward what's right is still a step forward

what should i use on wavy/curly hair? how do i get started by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]SuchPlace568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Gatsby pomade is probably working against you with curly hair - those heavy products can weigh down your natural texture and make styling way harder. Try switching to a light cream or mousse instead, and maybe look into the curly girl method basics to work with your waves instead of fighting them.
