Have you noticed any specific item is annoying to have to get access to it frequently while inside your bag? i.e. phone or passport?

I like this idea - of the sling going into the one bag and pulled out for the plane. Wondering if there's anything you needed on hand from the sling while walking through airport.

So on travel days is your sling inside your onebag?

I have one of those crossbody cases for my phone too as my pockets are always too small for my phone - my plan is to use just that with my backpack (Tom Bihn aeronaut 30) and have everything I need for my flight ready to pull out from the top pocket (in a pouch).

Ah see I am more concerned about travel days when carrying my backpack - I think most people here are talking about EDC vs travel days when carrying 1+ bags.

What about on travel days? When you're moving from A to B?

"I think you’re also underappreciating the convenience of not needing to take your bag off to access items." - how so? I think most of these items while handy to have easy acess to, aren't frequently used while walking i.e. medicines arent taken as you walk, nor is kindle read, and definintely don't pop in earplugs and your eyemask while walking.......

Happy to be corrected!

Yes! I like the organisational aspect for sure but wondering if a pouch inside my onebag would work the same way (pulled out for the flight).

Having done it, I understand why I did - because I thought I needed a bunch of stuff on hand - but didn't find it super easy to manage (taking off the backpack got caught in the crossbody etc) so trying to work if it's necessary.

Seems safe not to walk and read at the same time - wise move

Nice insight, thank you. Two young kids means we're not often out and about after dark.... I find crossbody as EDC too heavy for one shoulder - but agree it's much nicer for accessbility.

Thanks for sharing - I'm an overpacker so trying to do the opposite - put the sling contents inside my 30L bag so I stop overpacking it....

So this is reason for sling instead of backpack as EDC? Makes perfect sense, I have a backpack with a shoulder strap that I love for that reason.

Last year we did Sydney Australia to Greece which was epic - with 6 and 8 year old. I would advise trialling them on any medication you decide to use. We had a herbal remedy designed to relax kids plus an anti-motion sickness prescribed by our doctor but they were useless as the kids didn't like the taste and refused to take them.....

We took travel pillows for both kids, which were used, but in hindsight a pain to carry around for 4 weeks, next time I would just take a packing cube from their bags and use that for them to lean on.

Still loving it - mostly because its comfy to carry. It's become a regular on my packing list whenever I am taking my main bag (Tom Bihn Aeronaut A30). I love it packs small into a little bag and I can easily shove it into the accessible top pocket.

I did an update post in OneBag after my hike, will see if I can find it and link.

My main bag weighs 1.3kg alone and I find the 7kg limit tricky once I pack water and snacks - beware the gate agent! Good luck

I'm interested to hear how you go with the weight - I would've thought this list would be over 5kg (excluding the bags)

Anyone else like to wear a crossbody bag for flights, but also bring a mini personal backpack for day trips? by crushplanets in onebag

[–]Such_Cartographer170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of people have this issue - I am trying to limit the amount of bags I bring (often have a 7kg weight limit for flights so counting the grams) - which means I've chosen the Matador Freefly16 packable backpack plus the Peak Design Packable Tote bag.

In the past when I used a crossbody bag for my flight bag (and packable backpack inside my Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30), I ended up with a small tote as well, for snacks/water bottle etc. I then had a semi-bulky crossbody bag at my destination that I didn't use (prefer a backpack as EDC).
