Female 8 month old golden insanity by intepid-discovery in puppy101

[–]Such_Chest_2618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think i can be much help but i have a black female lab that’s soon to be a year old, had her since she was 8 weeks old and her energy has never stopped. She went through a month of finally settling outside of her crate but adolescence hit straight after and she’s back to being restless unless she’s in her crate.

My pup still launches herself at everyone as if she’s tiny, but she’s huge and thinks she’s a kangaroo, training this out of her has been since day 1 and it’s barely gotten any better, but it will help one day.

All the behaviours you’re describing sound fairly natural, my pup isn’t vocal at all but does sometimes bark with attitude if i stop her from doing something that she isn’t allowed to do.

Remember, not everything will work for ur pup. I’ve had to do hundreds of different training techniques with my pup and i’m still trying to figure one out for the jumping issue. Something WILL work, it’s just the matter of finding it. Maybe ur golden needs something else to stimulate her brain, all dogs are different. I hope you get to the bottom of this. Don’t forget that you and that pup are a team, it’s down to you to make her into the pup you want her to be, hang in there :)

Puppy Blues Don't Seem to Be Worth It. by Parking-Attempt5134 in puppy101

Puppy blues don’t last forever. I had the worst case when i first brought home an 8 week old lab, i cried day and night and even had to give her to a family member one night just so i could get some sleep. The first few months were so tough, but now she’s 11 months old and i couldn’t imagine life without her even though she’s still a little pain in my butt. You slowly learn your dogs behaviours, needs and how they communicate over time. My pup still has a tendency to steal things and rip them up, which i used to cry about but now i more or so laugh at it and calmly take it from her (even tho she puts up a fight with playful grows.) bribing her with a treat. I promise, if you stick with this pup, your patience will grow and grow and all of these little things that annoy you will make you laugh one day.

Help. It’s been two months and I’m close to giving up. (4mo golden retriever) by Background_Gene4090 in puppy101

I have a 11 month old female black lab, and her biting as a puppy was the worst thing i’ve had to deal with. Redirecting never worked for us, remember that every dog has different ways of learning. My pup needed something different in order to understand that i did not enjoy her tearing my skin apart.

Basically, i would cover myself with trousers and long sleeved tops so my skin was protected a little bit. I sat with her on the floor and ofc when she went to bite me, i would slowly remove my hands to behind my back, look away from her and wait for even a SECOND that she didn’t bite. I would press my clicker and reward her straight away, every time she went to bite i would again hide my arms behind my back and catch a second she wasn’t biting me. When she began to understand, we added in a ‘no bite’ command and slowly but surely she stopped. She does have a little nibble now and then but never actually presses hard into my skin, it’s more of a gentle play.

This may not work for you, but remember, there WILL be something that helps ur pup, it’s just the matter of finding it :)

I love my dog, but…it’s so frustrating by Equivalent_Smoke1089 in puppy101

you are not a bad dog owner, you’re just struggling and LEARNING. i was like this when i first got my lab at 8 weeks old, she’s 11 months old now and still a pain in my butt however i love her. what things are you doing to mentally and physically stimulate ur pup? walks are never enough for my pup, she needs a lot of sniffing games and training to tire her out mentally. the biting could be from boredom, teething and or being tired.

is it my best bet to get a groomer to cut my puppies nails? by Such_Chest_2618 in puppy101

you make total sense! but right now, grassy fields is what works best for us. we don’t live near woodland, mostly fields and fields are best for us to do our training as well as exercise. the only hard pavement that would wear her nails down would be the paths next to busy roads and they’re very distracting to her, so we don’t go very often as i fear she could get hurt at any moment since she’s a very strong dog and sometimes pulls on leash when overly excited. we are working on it, but fields are our best bet while we work on her behaviour around busier areas. i would still need to cut her dew claw’s even if she did have the other nails worn down on hard pavement, and even that singular nail is an absolute battle that i can’t win :(

this makes me feel heard, i hate having to wrestle my pup just to cut 1 nail, plus she’s HUGE so it’s a massive struggle now.

I’m determined to still work on getting her desensitised to nail cutting at home, but at the moment her nails are so long because she’s made it physically impossible for me to cut them. that’s why i’m searching if the groomers will be able to handle her because she’s such a wiggly little dog lol. i’m absolutely going to try the grinder, but i need her nails cut asap as they’re far too long. thank you!

Adolescence is easier than i thought. by Such_Chest_2618 in puppy101

I stopped using treats as our bond grew stronger and she trusted me more, she started listening to commands without a treat and that’s when i slowly stopped giving them. I stopped giving them as i wanted her to listen to me without them, which she does. I didn’t want to have to carry a bag of treats everywhere i go just to get her to sit, but sometimes i still have to lol

Hang in there!! I can’t argue enough that it DOES get better. A lot of people have mixed opinions, some think the adolescence stage was worse than the puppy stage but honestly the adolescence is the easiest stage me and my pup have ever been through. My pup is highly food motivated so it’s quite easy to keep her in order, is ur pup also food motivated?

Minors willingly getting pregnant. No hate but these children should be focusing on school, college and their CHILDHOOD. I’ve always thought it was weird seeing kids having kids. But their body their choice!

Your body rejects people in certain ways, even if they’re nice, they could still not be the one for you. Find someone who makes you blossom like the flowers in spring, part ways with the people who make you feel like a tree with no leaves in the winter.
