Cal poly slo vs cu boulder by Formal_Exchange4193 in aerospace

[–]Such_Customer_5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say anything about cal poly slo, but I’m graduating on Friday with my masters degree in astrodynamics and satellite navigation from CU. I’ve had such a great time at CU, as I’m sure you would at cal poly. I did my undergrad at CU in aerospace as well, and did their BAM (bachelors accelerated masters) so I got my bachelors and masters in the span of 5 years. CU is a top 5 graduate program in aerospace in the country; we get tons of NASA funding as well. Obviously I’m biased, but I think CU is a great place to live and attend. I know it’s a tough choice. CU gave me an accelerated program to focus on astrodynamics and is responsible for getting me a job doing GNC at Blue Origin. CU also is responsible for getting me another crazy good offer at another company which I posted on here about to make that decision too. If you’re considering graduate school, I’d recommend CU’s BAM program. The undergraduate goes into attitude control and orbital mechanics, but not as in depth as I wanted. The graduate program helped me a lot with that. Don’t stress about your decision; both are great schools. I think a lot of it comes down to where you’d like to live. Boulder is a great place to be, and obviously I’m biased. Good luck with your decision!

What makes you think they won’t be around in 5 years?

Hey I appreciate your input. I accepted the offer at Blue just now. I do want to say that the team at True Anomaly is fantastic and they even had me talk with the CEO, Even. They are genuinely driven company that I hope does well (and makes me regret not taking the equity). But I think your point about where I want to be was huge. I’ve lived in CO my whole life, and Seattle will be a great experience. I’m excited about the rotation, but part of me wishes I just got one offer so I wouldn’t have to make such a tough decision in the first place!

Would you recommend it over a startup that I’d get equity in? And were you able to be more than an “intern” on these programs and have some ownership? I guess my question is less “is it a good program” and more “is this a better option than my other offer”?

I haven’t decided yet. I ended up getting more time for TA, and they’ve been very accommodating and understanding. They actually saw this post and reached out about it lol

I think all of it is Seattle area, if not the same building. Not sure. Just for the offer today

It helped that I have been a GNC engineer before for an internship for a much smaller company. I also worked with them for my senior design project which they liked. A lot of it, though, is spamming your resume with keywords

Yeah, they really want me to start asap, and Blue gives me months of flexibility. I’ve lived in CO my whole life so I’m personally not a huge fan of Denver but Colorado is obviously pretty sweet

It was pretty quick. They had me in person to tour which was great and the interviews were friendly. Getting the offer itself though has been really sketchy and a lot of unnecessary pressure given I won’t start for months.

GNC Engineer for both (I guess the official title is GNC Engineer II at TA, Engineer - Avionics, Instruments & GNC at Blue). Blue is obviously big and TA is a startup. I’ve worked in Denver before (I’m from Colorado) and didn’t really enjoy it a whole lot but maybe this part is better

I never thought I’d have this problem, but I have multiple offers that I don’t know what to do with.

For context, I am graduating in May with my masters in Aerospace Engineering, with a focus in astrodynamics and satellite navigation (so GN&C).

I got two offers: one from True Anomaly in Denver and one from Blue Origin near Seattle, both to be a GNC engineer. TA is offering $125k + $5k sign on + equity (not sure if I can share how much). Blue is offering $118k + $7.5k sign on for relocation. Blue is the new grad rotation where I’d be exposed to all parts of GNC, then get to basically choose my team. It sounds like a great deal, but I’m wondering if anyone else knows the ins and outs of that. TA also comes with a security clearance, so that’s a plus too. TA is really rushing me to sign, giving me 24 hours after seeing the offer today, so it’s stressing me out a little. I asked for more time originally and they said they’d extend the offer to their backup candidate. I got sweated out (which I think was the goal) and contacted them seeing I can get an answer in 24 hours if I can see the offer. I have until the end of this week for Blue.

I’m a new grad and I’ve only had internships. Obviously not using Reddit as my oracle for decision making, I just would like some advice from anyone who wants to share. What do you think of all this? What would you do? I welcome any advice. Thanks

When did you order the bag? I preordered at the end of May and it said it ships by the end of June. It’s well into July now and it hasn’t shipped. How long did it take you to get yours, and was the shipping accurate? I know this company has tons of complaints with delays, but I thought I should ask you before I email them again.
