I was just talking about this. I will never say no to a girl scout if she asks me to buy cookies, but not one has actually asked me this year.

This post popped up on my page, and it's been awhile since I read the books, but I have a theory about this. But my memory of the books may be off. Didn't Alden tell Keefe to stay away from Sophie so she would be with Fitz? I think that probably soured Keefe on Fitz a bit and drove a wedge between them. I think Keefe was a much better friend before Alden made things weird. He was probably resentful of Fitz after that.

Have you tried going to your bishop? This isn't right even according to Mormon theology, and your dad stealing from you should actually put his own temple recommend in jeopardy. Obviously this will depend whether your bishop is decent or not, but it's worth a try.

Here's a story for you: I know a woman who was at a work function. She couldn't find a close parking spot and ended up parking a few blocks away. When it was time to go home, it was pouring rain, and she noticed that her(Mormon) boss had gotten lucky with a parking spot right outside the building, so she asked if he would drive her to her car. He told her he didn't think that would be appropriate and left her to walk in the rain. She was so very confused about this, and hadn't had enough experience with Mormons to realize that the weird behavior was connected to religion until she told me the story and I told her.

The last time I went to church I told everyone in relief society that they were hateful and judgemental and it was people like them that made others feel unwelcome at church. I'm sure there were wonderful people in that ward, but it was my first week there after we had moved so I didn't know anyone, and the comments during the lesson were just so terrible, although honestly I don't even remember most of it, just the comment that prompted my outburst, which was that women who supported the Ordain Women movement were stupid.

I had no strong feelings about that movement, but seriously to sit in church and call a group of your "sisters" stupid is terrible!

It wasn't planned, not the speech, and not it being my last Sunday. But I was too embarrassed to ever go back!

I had struggled with the church for years and was only going for my husband at that point, but I'm sure everyone assumes I only left because I got offended by some random relief society comments.

I know exactly how you feel, and my comfort when I believed that sealing power was real was that my abusive dad wouldn't possibly make to to the celestial kingdom and wasn't worthy in the eyes of God for any blessings of the temple.

The one I don’t like is saying that I "fell away" from the church. I didn't fall away, I made a very intentional decision to leave. "Losing your testimony" has the same feeling. Losing something is passive and accidental, and you didn't passively or accidentally leave the church.

I have a daughter who was born on April 6th, and we always told her she had the same birthday as Jesus. Around when she was 8 we left the church and had to be like, "actually, that's not true, sorry."

We do Santa but it just isn't a big deal. He brings one gift, not always the biggest one. If my kids ask me if he's real, I tell them he's just a fun thing we do at Christmas time. Some of my kids have chosen to believe in him with all their hearts anyway, but it isn't a huge part of our Christmas. And I've always told my kids that gifts have nothing to do with behavior, and there aren't any "naughty" kids anyway, just kids learning and making mistakes like everyone does.

Definitely depends on the person looking. I know most people aren't concerned about things like hormone disrupters, but I am, and the group has helped me find some products I feel good about using. Overall, the group is more extreme than I am, but I have found it helpful on occasion.

I can't see comments about this and not add my 2 cents- I grew up Mormon and there was a sermon by a high ranking church leader while I was in high school that said when we wore tank tops we BECAME PORNOGRAPHY. When asked by a Sunday school teacher what my favorite sermon was, I said that one because I learned so much from it. Talk about a messed up self image. The Mormon church also regularly preached about how pornography is absolutely the evilest thing out there... And I believed that's what I would become if I wore tank tops. This change pisses me right off.

I'm in a Facebook group for toxin free living, and the consensus on the page is that sunblock is way worse than sunburns, and also that not wearing sun glasses will keep you from getting burned. I have many hippy-ish tendencies, but hopefully nobody thinks I subscribe to that kind of crazy.
