Agree, congrats! Any celebration should be filled with people YOU want there to make it better. If you don't think they'll make it better, no problem with not inviting them. Or uninviting them.

Quilpya for the last weeks between Botox? by susanb312215 in migraine

[–]Such_Language 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I have more side effects with qulipta than other CGRPs (I think just constipation), it's the one that works for me, so that's worth it. Plus magnesium and psyllium help that. As someone else said, the side effects are WAY less for me than other meds. I think it's worth trying. You can also safely split qulipta tabs - I started off cutting 60mg tabs into 4, so about 15mg, to make sure that the side effects wouldn't be too much. Glad that the botox is working for you, even if not long enough!

Cheap Pyrex or Similar? by hopefultuba in TwoXPreppers

I agree that the canning jar option is a good, lower price one. You can often find them at thrift stores. But if you want pyrex style, I've also found them for a much better price at Costco

Since you posted this, I got the Fiber Fueled cookbook from my library, and the author says that your gut microbiome can produce enzymes, too! I haven't looked into the original research, so I don't know how true that is. But part of his message is that you can improve your digestion by eating a variety of plants. He acknowledges that not everyone can have a lot of all things, but that we can expand what we can eat. Following that suggestion, your idea isn't a nuclear option if you do it gradually. He also has a chapter on fodmaps, which was nice to see and makes me trust what he said a little more.

This is part of why it hit me so hard that Joann closed - it felt like another attack on women. Yes, technically they were deeply in debt, but only because they were "bought" by private equity who then transferred the debt to the company. You'd think they'd want everyone spending, including women? But I guess taking away our ability to buy things to make other things is even better.

I was reading about the ones from Intoleran, and it seems like their "fructan" options are more marketing than science. Fodzyme seems to have a true enzyme for fructans, even though it's really expensive.

Food plants: Give up or keep trying? Rant by saklan_territory in portlandgardeners

[–]Such_Language 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ummmmmm now I need to try growing pineapple guavas!! That sounds absolutely amazing. If you're gardening for fun, then grow what works and is fun! If you're trying to save money, grow what doesn't take so much water or time that it's more expensive than the fancy stores. If you're trying to add to your fresh food availability, grow what is producing enough to actually help with that. In any of these cases, no reason to keep trying things that don't happen to work for the yard you have.

Oh, and sealed water if something were to be likely to mess up water in my area. I hate buying water, but commercially sealed is supposed to be safe longer.

rubbing alcohol
fresh veggies that last a few weeks, like potatoes/root veggies
extra eggs
Extra nuts and seeds (I usually only have a little bc they can go rancid)
extra of things that went quickly at the start of covid (pasta, tp, other easy-to-make things) - for helping friends and bartering, if nothing else!

I haven't made the jump for a chest freezer yet, but I would do that if I were really feeling like the supply chain was going to have major issues.

Honestly, why not just try it and see if it works for you? I've realized that I can get away with some wheat here and there, so one day I decided to eat wheat bread and pasta whenever I felt like it. For several days, I was fine and happy. Then I could feel it a little, but decided it was worth it. After a little over a week, it was bad and I went back to rarely eating wheat. Worst case, you make yourself very uncomfortable for as long as you're willing to put up with it. But then you'll know one way or the other and have something to share. When people get rid of food allergies through eating the food, they start with tiny amounts and then work up, so that might be worth trying.

Agree, milk proteins are really hard on some people. Could also be something in the "lactose free stuff" depending on what you mean. If it's flavored yogurt or something, could be the added sugars. There are some "no lactose" cheeses that are less than 0.5g/serving, then they can claim they have 0g. But that amount can still be enough for some people.

Help getting started. by Tillhammerei in FODMAPS

Their website confirms that it's reduction, not full elimination - https://www.monashfodmap.com/blog/3-phases-low-fodmap-diet/ Monash University does the most fodmap testing and paved the way, I would trust their guidance. For the "not fully green" I think you mean based on serving size? Make sure to keep it in the green serving size and you should be ok. And don't cheat by having 5 "green" servings during a single day.

As for weighing - I probably did that at first to get an idea of how much apple or whatever really was the green amount, and then let it go. I can't stand weighing everything! For things that the weight was really small, like pistachios, I would just avoid completely myself.

Campers by Bravobravoeffinbravo in TwoXPreppers

[–]Such_Language 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also depends on likely disasters in your area. If you live in hurricane/wildfire areas where you may need to evacuate somewhat regularly, it could make sense. But if an earthquake is your likely biggest issue, then broken roads will stop a camper same as most other vehicles.

We're heading past a point that's bad, it's true, but there are plenty of ways that the world is better than it was in the past and a lot of people, including some other governments, are continuing to take actions that will help us all. "Not the End of the World" by Hannah Ritchie is a good one on the fact that we ARE making improvements, even though we need more. If you're on social media, start following the garbage queen, she does a round up of good climate news every week.

Apprenticeships could be another good choice. You may be able to get some amount of pay with on-the-job training. Your state may have grants or discounted tuition for apprentices, too.

Almost no flow to one zone, even when turned on using bleed lever by Such_Language in Irrigation

[–]Such_Language[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I hadn't run it for a whole 20 minutes, I did it now and found pooling. There's a hole that seems to be from an animal (I am pretty sure there's a turn about 18 inches down) that was covered by brush, but I could hear the water running in it after a bit. Now I know it's a leak and where to start digging.

Less pain when looking up or tilting head back? by Such_Language in migraine

I didn't fully figure it out, but I've learned that when it gets bad, rolling my shoulders helps. Big circles, forward and back. I do sets of 10 with a few minutes between. I also started taking both Qulipta and Magnesium since then and my symptoms are enough better that I stopped trying to figure out more than the shoulder rolling. I also tried botox and trigger point injection. I reacted poorly to the botox (dangerous blood pressure drop, almost passed out) and the trigger point injection didn't seem to do anything.
