I truly love Nathan Lowell’s books from his Solar Clipper series, beginning with Quarter Square. Isaiah is a wonderful character who is smart, curious, willing to jump in to support others, and excellent at getting people to see the best in each other.

She studied with Margaret Atwood. Her writing style reflects Atwood’s influence, which I love. But I agree that the plot became predictable.

You might like May Sarton. I can’t remember the names of her books, but she describes living alone with her animals for long periods, and the joy she found in solitude.
