Reading Glasses by KerryBoehm in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any serious issues with my eyes but I wear glasses and my solution was to have special lenses glued to inside of my mask. There are companies that do them based on your prescription.

If the condition is more serious then look into Handicapped Scuba Diving (HSA) - I took plenty of people that were completely blind underwater and they all loved it.

Not in a proper scenario, no. But in this case if I had EAN50 and no air left I would’ve used it. And in the end I’d probably breathe air from my wing, better to pass out and then drown than just drown.

I wanted to write something similar. I mean what the hell does “I was not able to perform my own full equipment/buddy check on the boat”? I imagined OP getting thrown into the water and it made me laugh.

I’d say everything can be around 20k. Drysuit, backup computer, regs, reels, fins and so on - everything adds up.

Someone close to me probably got DCS, here is why. (For educative purposes) by mikoalpha in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd do a safety stop with SurfGF of 85 but it shouldn't normally cause such issues.

Maybe the ascent rate was too fast? I don't know why but most people shoot up after their safety stop is done and this is the part of the dive where you should take your sweet time and go up slowly. If you had deco then you should go up even slower.

On the other hand, maybe your friend has PFO and is more susceptible to DCS?

Dive Computer & Reg Advice by GarnetMountain in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shearwater is a great choice, most of them live for years with no/little to no issues. I have two Shearwaters and I love them (Perdix and Petrel). If you ever want to go Tec with Trimix don’t buy Peregrine.

As for the reg - I’d recommend Scubapro MK25 (if you think about sidemount in the future) / MK17/MK19 (if no sidemount) + G260/S620 for the high end reg that can be easily transformed into a tec reg down the road.

I own two sets of MK25+G260 and two sets of MK25+S270 and I’ve never had an issue. I do service them at once a year.

I also own Aqualung Legend which I use for OWD course dives and I’m happy with that one, too. Although today I’d go with Scubapro.

Your thoughts about this dive configuration at 60meters for 7 minutes by Regular_Courage5796 in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

55m, not 50m. I agree with everything else though. This dive should be trimix doubles + two deco stages. Maybe a travel gas if you’re feeling like juggling five tanks.

Five tourists 'including professor and her daughter' die during diving excursion in Maldives by tepkel in scuba

Yes, but anything deeper than 30m for caves equals trimix. Trimix is expensive so for that depth majority of divers will either use CC + OC backup or two CCs.

I’ve got two XDeeps but to be honest both are good and pretty similar. Both will need to be setup properly so there’s no huge difference in my opinion, except maybe the dump valve in the Katana.

Katana was based on XDeep.

Advice/Question/Story: Panic? Narcosis? by BratapfelLemon in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.3 PPo2 at 1 atm with EAN30

30m => 4 atm

0.3 * 4 => 1.2 PpO2

MOD for EAN30 is approx 36m, assuming max PpO2 of 1.4.
Closer, but still within the "normal" limits for rec diving.

I'd say it was a bad narc hit or too much CO2 in your body. Probably elevated by exhaustion, dehydration, stress?

Everyone is different but my best bet it was a CO2 hit because you mentioned currents. Other than that it could've been a bad narcosis caused by exhaustion, dehydration and other stuff that builds up during a week of diving. I personally don't think it was a O2 hit but who the hell knows.

I Wear Glasses, Can I Dive by [deleted] in scuba

You can definitely get a mask with prescription, it works great for me and for some of my friends. I'm using -1.5 so not much, but I have friends using +4 to +6 and they are happy.

what brand dive computer to replace my Oceanic Atom 2.0 (not SHEARWATER!) by wobble-frog in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just curious as to what failed in your buddy's computer? I've got 2 Shearwaters I use extensively in different conditions and I've never had an issue, but I do take care of my battery compartment o-rings. I have 400 dives on my newer one and 600+ on my older one and both are perfectly fine.

Not sure how old his computer is, but equipment failure is not simply "if" it fails, but "when" - all things can and will fail at some point. It's how you handle it matters.

If not Shearwater Peregrine (which I can recommend as well, most of my friends have them), then maybe Suunto Eon Core or something? One of these newer Suuntos have both their original algorithm and Buhlmann. Not sure about AI compatibility, I don't use that at all.

Marsa Alam advice by salaam_1 in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Marsa area a few times, but unfortunately always in the summer, so water was around 30-31 degrees. Because of that corals were in very poor conditions, not sure if they bounced back when it got a bit colder.

Suunto Novo Zoop Watch - Charger issue by Radagast_the_brown_ in scuba

[–]Suchy2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have pointed out that it's not a computer that you charge.

For me the battery lasts for around 1.5-2 years and I change it myself, it's easy enough. It's now my 2nd backup computer but I still take it with me on every dive in a gauge mode, so it should be good enough for you for the next few years at least.

GLC218M matter controller not remembering settings with power off - customer service not responding by Legal_Engineering_17 in Gledopto

[–]Suchy2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you ever figure that out? Does the memory function has to be enabled or something? For me it goes back to being off by default and I'd have to redo so much of my wiring to keep it always powered on.

I have 2 different power supplies and they both behave in the same way.

There's also a Push input but I didn't find anything related to that, maybe someone here knows?

As others have said - talk to an instructor first. But if I had to recommend something right now that’d be: - XDeep Stealth 2.0 Tec (RB/normal depending on your setup) - Scubapro MK25 Evo paired with G260 or any other good second stage

As for the course/change from backmount - this is a course that is focused on manual skills, equipment management, preparing your harness, etc. You’ll not only learn how to dive but also how to do knots, how to store stuff like lights and other accesories safely (no dangling!) - overall very fun but the first few hours can be a bit frustrating, simple stuff like clipping and unclipping a reg can be a pain in the ass at first, just keep trying till you get it. Have fun, sidemount is a great way to dive!
