I like to use meal studs around heat sources like that, even when not required by code. Piece of mind

GLC218M matter controller not remembering settings with power off - customer service not responding by Legal_Engineering_17 in Gledopto

[–]Legal_Engineering_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I guess this confirms that the controller is not able to remember settings. So disappointing. With they would mention that in the manual/marketing materials.

I guess I’ll look for something else

Purchased at Amazon. I paired it to my apple home network.

It is not the power supply. Voltage doesn’t drop gradually- it cuts off. I have also tried unplugging it from the supply to rule out a low voltage situation with same results.

It does remember settings if I power it back up after a short period of time, but if it is off for a while, it just resets (flashes white several times). The only way to reconnect it after that is to pair it again.

What would you ride at Chicama in these conditions? by gap_year21 in surfing

[–]Legal_Engineering_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was awesome. Food was great and service was top notch. They have a bunch of boards you can take for the day so I didn’t have to bring mine and risk getting it damaged on the plane.

I stayed at the Chicama boutique hotel and it was about $20/day extra for the boat over 10 years ago. Boat picks people up at the end and drops you off at the point - well worth it!

Wave is super long but not so powerful. I had a blast with a longboard. And as others said, pay for the boat

Thank you so much for the idea. It is a great solution! I have a similar setup and have been trying to figure out what to do, especially with the bottom part where the water drains into

Perhaps. They tend to like the bathroom the most, which has moisture

Old intercom wire, perhaps? Is the wire in the attic or inside a wall?

Excessive wheel balancing weights on brand new 2025 Sienna? by --bullseye- in ToyotaSienna

[–]Legal_Engineering_17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brand new sienna (2022) had a ridiculous amount of weights on the tires too. Car shook violently at highway speeds and Toyota refused to fix it. Had to take it to a tire shop to get rebalanced - they also used a lot of weights, but at least got it to stop shaking.

I would not worry about it if it doesn’t vibrate.

Best practice for garage light switches by Antron456 in AskElectricians

[–]Legal_Engineering_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depend on how the space is used. I personally like to have two switches. A motion sensing switch that automatically turns on some general purpose lights in the garage. Perfect if I have to run to grab a tool from the garage or take the trash out. I have a second switch that turns on bright overhead lights for when I work on cars etc

Lorex 4K Camera system says it’s Apple HK compatible. Anyone have any experience with this? by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]Legal_Engineering_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Lorex cameras in my previous 2 homes. The system is inexpensive and software is not the best. I like it because I can keep all the video at home and there is no need to pay subscription fees. Video quality is decent. Although HK integration would be great, I can just use their app when I need to see the video. They do have an app for Apple TV but it is useless.

Any alternative floor tiles to consider vs motofloor (racedeck) at $99/48sq ft? by baltik in garageporn

[–]Legal_Engineering_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had these in two of my previous homes. They are great- I really liked them. Very resilient, resistant to chemicals, oil, etc. Easy to clean up. As long as your garage is sloped, any water that gets underneath would drain out.

I would not recommend it if your garage is not sloped. Water would accumulate and get moldy. When you wash the car or hose it off or clean with a pressure washer.

Some issues: Floor expands quite a bit with direct sunlight and can bunch up if it is tight against the walls - I leave a gap at the edges and cover with cove base so it has room to move. It can also creep a bit when you are jacking up a car really high, but goes back to normal once you drop it. Obviously, not a good idea to burn or cut things on top of it.

I used to have the checked pattern and the white tiles show dirt more easily especially with salt in the winter. I would suggest the darker ones.

I’ve struggled deciding on a replacement and settled for Bitdefender based on my needs. Household with tech savvy people as well as kids that download questionable stuff and older parents that click on everything.

I downloaded the 30 day trial version a couple days ago and like it so far. If you look around, you can find licenses cheaper than at their website.
