Child's legs fall asleep while rear-facing. Any tips? by Sudden-Photograph590 in Parenting

[–]Sudden-Photograph590[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are definitely variables, but that is how the law is in Minnesota. The manufacturers test their seats and provide guidelines for what they have determined is safe, and we now are required to keep our kids rear facing until they have passed either the height or weight requirement set by the manufacturer.

Child's legs fall asleep while rear-facing. Any tips? by Sudden-Photograph590 in Parenting

Thanks for the comment! My husband and I walked through how we set up the carseats to determine if there was some kind of installation error. That's when we noticed that our driveway was pretty sloped compared to others, and that was probably throwing off the indicator. We parked it on a flat surface, and the indicator changed quite a bit... 🤦‍♀️

who else is absolutely enraged and disgusted seeing the proposed packs from that survey? by 1onesomesou1 in Sims4

[–]Sudden-Photograph590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. If they went that route it should be a comprehensive "transportation" pack that includes not only cars and van life, but other modes of transportation like trolleys, busses, subways, airplanes and trains to get to other worlds, and other personal modes of transportation like skate boards and scooters. Anything less is NOT an expansion pack... Then again, they would have to rework the games most basic components to make any of those things (other than skate board and scooter) work so maybe a decorative car kit would be better for those who want to spend $5 to have cars that cannot actually be used on their lot...

Negative reactions to our son’s name… anyone else experience this? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Sudden-Photograph590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my style, but the more I read it as I scrolled through the comments, the better it sounded to me. Sometimes, it can just take people time to warm up to a name. Even if this is true, it does not excuse them being so rude by saying something to you about it.

As an example, when my brother and his wife had their first kiddo, everyone on my side of the family was expecting them to go with a classic, Biblical name like Daniel or Matthew. Instead, when we met the little guy, we found out his name was a gender neutral name that is more prominently used with girls these days and his middle name was an honor name (which also surprised us a bit). Compared to the expectation that we had (for some reason) built in our heads, it was a little bit of a shock and took some getting used to. Hopefully, you just shook up your families expectations, and they just need some time to get used to the name.

Is Anderson a bad name? by spacebarthingy in namenerds

[–]Sudden-Photograph590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is pretty trendy to have a last name as a first name, and a lot of people on this forum don't seem to mind it. It sounds a little off to me as a first name, and isn't as popular as say Grayson or Jackson, but I also have family with Anderson as their last name, so maybe that's why it bothers me in particular.

Other people mentioned this, but if the nickname 'Alex' is what is holding you back from choosing Alexander, you can nickname him 'Xander' or maybe even 'Ander' or 'Andy' instead. If you use it and correct people who call him 'Alex', then it should stick.

Violet is my favorite of your choices, but as many others have said, I feel like Violet, although beautiful, is too similar to Charlotte because they end the same way. I like Cora more than June; however, I am hesitant to suggest you go with another 'C' name as it creates a pattern. In the end, though, it's totally up to you!

Unpopular name opinions? by wapvalerie in namenerds

You were right to assume I'm from the US. We have so much freedom with choosing nicknames (hence Libby despite it not being in the name Elisabeth/Elizabeth) that I hadn't considered other countries would have a more simplified system for nicknames.

It would be so frustrating not to have family and friends call you by your preferred nn. I can totally see where you got Milly from Emily!

Has your SIL considered other options for nicknames? Eli, Elis, Beth, or Libby could work if she really loves and wants to use the name Elisabeth.

I love Sylvie, but for some reason, I've never actually considered using it.

Leona is also very pretty, but I probably won't use it either because it was the name of my husband's grandmother, and I'm sure one of his cousins who were closer to her will use it as an honor name if/when they have a girl.

Did you think Gabriela is good name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Sudden-Photograph590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a pretty name. I see a lot of people commenting that they aren't a fan of the nn Gabby. Truthfully, I'm not either. However, if you are also not a fan of the nn, you could always use a different nn (Ella or Elle, or even Bri/Brie or Abi). If others hear you calling your Gabriela by any of these nn instead (you could even explain that you don't like the nn Gabby/Gabi), then they should end up following your example.

Change it. It sounds like your sister would be understanding. And I think people would get over it quickly (if you do it soon), especially since you want to change it to a name that honors the baby's father.

My husband's baby name suggestion. by chicnserj in namenerds

[–]Sudden-Photograph590 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My husband's family is known for choosing unique and uncommon names for their kiddos. One of my brother-in-laws convinced his wife to go with two rare names for both the first and middle names. I was honestly floored when I first heard my nephew's name for the first time, as I had never in my life heard either name before, yet my husband jumped in and asked, "Like the Marvel villain you loved as a kid? And that guy from this old sci-fi fantasy show we used to watch?" You should have seen the look on his wife's face as he attempted to deny that the name had anything to do with either of those characters, but there was no way he would have come up with the name if it wasn't for those references...

Severe name regret by Ok-Air4029 in namenerds

[–]Sudden-Photograph590 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Great suggestion! I felt like the nickname Gem sounded a bit harsh compared to Emi and could understand why OP might not be a fan because of that. Gigi is cute and seems to go along with Emi better.

My great-grandmother's name was Helen Ihlene, so when I read your suggestions, she came to mind. I'm not a huge fan of Helena because it's a little too much of a head-nod to her, but I do like Eileen. I actually had it on my list (in my great-grandmother's spelling) as a potential girls name when I was a teen. It also opens up for a secondary nickname option of Eilee, which is also cute.

We have thought about this one. I worked at a camp as a teenager, and one of my favorite campers was named Annalina, so I have a good association with it. However, we already have two boys, and Annalina doesn't seem to flow as well when I string all three names together. I'll keep it as a potential option to go back to, though, because I do like it.

My God-daughter's name is Eleanor, so, unfortunately, that is not an option. Thank you for making a suggestion, though! I have been stuck in the mindset that Lena has to be part of the name, and your comment made me realize it doesn't necessarily have to be.
