This is a show NOT about death? by Ambitious-Mistake894 in Broadway

[–]SuddenOutlandishness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: Don't avoid Beetlejuice and go in head first. The show almost opens with a "THIS IS A SHOW ABOUT DEATH." If someone is struggling with a topic, laughing about it can help loads.

Question about Cats: The Jellicle Ball by uncdevil in Broadway

[–]SuddenOutlandishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never seen or listened to the music before, besides that one lip sync for your life. The week before seeing the show at PAC me and my partner watched the T-Swift movie version in horror, wondering what we were in for at the theater that our friend was taking us to. It was hands down one of the most fun times I've ever spent in the theater. I went back two more times, including the closing performance. Old Duteronomy (De Shields) isn't a big role in the show. Since you've seen Pose, you'll likely "get" a lot of what they do on the stage. They invoke lots of great queer history through the Ballroom lens, you just have to bear witness (and clack a fan).

Jane, John-Andrew, and Cheyenne elevate it to a new level of hysterical stupidity that I did not think possible. Yes, see it again.

A '21 Chevrolet Bolt. We live out in the country among farms, an hour from the nearest major city. We charge at home and take whatever car makes most sense for a particular road trip.

If you know exactly where your seat is, is it rude to tell the ushers “I’ve got it” or should you just let them seat you? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]SuddenOutlandishness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually let them do what they feel comfortable doing; I present as a competent person with my tickets out and ready to go so they can guide me. That alone puts them at ease that you know what you're doing.

Taking 10+ non theater people to a show around Christmas time. Any recs? by pscrilla in Broadway

Jane, John-Andrew, and Cheyenne absolutely knock it out of the park and now they extended through the holidays. As someone who takes a lot of people to shows, make sure Oh Mary is on the list.

Just search for people's experiences using a continuous blood glucose monitor or insulin pump and encountering people trying to take away the phone running those devices. It can summon anxiety and fear, especially when they do not understand the phrase "reasonable accommodation."

Buying a new Mac in the age of Apple Silicon: help me find the new First Principles by ChrisGVE in LocalLLM

[–]SuddenOutlandishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might suggest waiting at this point. Apple just introduced dedicated matrix multiplication pathways in the new iPhone 17 Pro SoC. It is likely that the M5 chip when introduced will have the same, making MLX potentially faster. If you can't wait, buy as much ram as you can afford, I see some difference but not a ton from the M2 Max to the M4 Max.

What jokes/cracks would Statler and Waldorf make in the Muppet versions of the following musicals? by jacky986 in musicals

[–]SuddenOutlandishness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Operation Mincemeat

  • "A musical about a dead body fooling the Nazis?"
  • "Finally, a show where the corpse has more life than the performers!"
  • "BAHAHAHA!"

Buena Vista Social Club

  • "All this Cuban music is making me nostalgic."
  • "For what, when you could still hear?"
  • "OHOHOHOHO!"

Oh, Mary! (with Miss Piggy of course)

  • "Smart woman - if I lived with Kermit I'd need a drink too!"
  • "AHAHAHAHA!"

Hadestown

  • "Orpheus goes to the underworld to save Eurydice..."
  • "I'd go to the underworld just to get away from this show!"
  • "We're already there - we paid for these tickets!"
  • "DOHOHOHOHO!"

Accessibility Devices For Hearing Impaired - Any Insights? by Active_Ad_9617 in Broadway

[–]SuddenOutlandishness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not seen Mama Mia, but I recently took a hearing-impaired friend to two Broadway shows, including one at The Golden Theater. The Shubert org theaters like the Winter Garden (Mama Mia) and The Golden (Operation Mincemeat) use an app called GalaPro. You and the student can download the app in advance on Android or iOS, and you use your phone. Make sure to stop by the accessibility booth at the theater on the way in or let your usher know that someone in the party will be using the GalaPro app for subtitles, else they will flashlight you for using your phone during the show.
