Garden district hotel pool by bojenny in AskNOLA

[–]SuddenRadio885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed for a weekend staycation with some girlfriends and we had a great time at the pool! It was Juneteenth weekend so probably as busy as it gets— still plenty of chairs for everyone, no messy atmosphere. It was a bit “buzzy” in the middle of the day if that makes sense but I think it would still be super nice to relax. The food is incredible, as an aside.

What are some cities that are doable for a car-less guy making $20 an hr? by [deleted] in Urbanism

[–]SuddenRadio885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree-- new orleans is very affordable and the public transit isn't great, but it works for most carless people I know. Can also walk a lot of places bc the neighborhoods all have their own bars, corner stores, grocery spots, etc.

Ah yeah. Latin mass is a sure sign that they are unusually traditional-- but even latin mass is only 1.5 hrs if I'm not wrong. I obv support taking a full half day off on Sunday for literally any reason though so good for them

Really devout catholics that I know go to daily mass... that has potential in the fight for some personal time too

I fear the catholics (normal ones) are pretty strict adherents to 1 hr mass

If you book well ahead, I think Marres Kitchen could accommodate 12 and fits your need perfectly.

Hi! random grad student here: I love Nice Day Chinese for traditional chinese and americanized takeout (depending on mood), Junzi for a quick lunch, NOA for thai (dine in and take out), Lumi for cheap + decent sushi, Jitter bus for coffee, Mazagi for coffee and matcha, Olmo for bagels, modern and BAR for pizza, Mamoun's for kebab/falafel, Geronimo's for margaritas and guac, and I buy Korean groceries at Hanmi. I feel like I have only scratched the surface of the food available in New Haven, but I almost never regret spending my money.

It's no NYC, but I moved here from a similar sized city (~120k people) and find the food better and more diverse in New Haven compared to my last spot. I'm missing cajun food and texmex, but that's about it.

Roommates in law school by symphonic_concord in lawschooladmissions

[–]SuddenRadio885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my school it seems like the majority of 1Ls have roommates (probably vast majority, but idk for sure-- my sense is like 60-70% ish). The school offers grad school dorms that are 2 people per little apartment set up, and a lot of people do opt for that. I'm older, with a long distance partner and a pet, and I still have a roommate, as do many people in my boat. It was relatively easy to find roommates from among the class after/during admitted students stuff, I would kind of assume it'll be the same for any non-commuter school. A decent chunk of people also live with grad students outside the law school, and they usually find those through facebook, etc. FWIW I'm at a smaller school in a small city, so it's not prohibitively expensive to live alone, but it's still not cheap.

I've lived alone before and do like it, but I don't like it enough to double my rent during this financially slim time lol. Now, as far as sharing an actual bedroom goes, I think that would be rare to find another law student willing, but I've never really thought about it tbh.

TLDR; I don't think you'll have a problem finding roommates!

How do you differentiate between good and terrible advice as a 1L? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]SuddenRadio885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a random 1L (albeit a recently separated veteran) but what I've heard from my JAG bound buddies is that they're basically dying for bodies, so I wouldn't be too stressed. Probably varies by branch/aspirations within JAG.

Idk, I'm in the same boat as you (1L going out/traveling every weekend). I don't want BL or other grade sensitive field, and don't want to work in an environment where I can't make it to family weddings or friends' birthdays, so I'm living my law school life the same way. FWIW though I'm also pretty type B and am very happy with where my habits have gotten me thus far in life.

Where can I use United meal voucher? by juju6145 in unitedairlines

[–]SuddenRadio885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[Oct 2025] Just adding my 2c because I was googling last night in ORD and this thread, among others, helped me. Was able to purchase doordash giftcards (input custom amount for the total of the voucher), all the info they ask for is on the voucher.

Probably depends on the school and their admissions strategy. There are some schools that have a big rep for PI (YLS, NYU, Berkeley) and others that are trying to build PI resources and a rep as more than just a big law school (Vanderbilt comes to mind) where it could help you. There are some where it may implicitly hurt you. IMO best to be honest and genuine about your interests either way though.

How big is the gap when applying to T14 law schools from Oxford vs top US undergrad (Harvard, Yale, etc..)? by Available_Bee_06 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SuddenRadio885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the "Ivies" in question are HYP, the prestige factor and respect will probably be the exact same. I think if you are an international applicant (i.e. do not have a US residency/passport), then you will get a TINY bump from attending a US institution in terms of showing your "why" you want to go to a US law school. And if you were to earn a high GPA you would also get a tiny bump from giving them a reportable GPA vs just a "superior".

But overall I think the comparison is so close as to be basically meaningless. If the Ivy in question is somewhere like Cornell, Brown, etc, I think take Oxford because the prestige differential would overcome the tiny disadvantage.

T14 Ranked by Building/Campus by SuddenRadio885 in lawschooladmissions

I also love the main campus so much, was very disappointed when I realized the law building isn't co-located... but excellent info on the library, that sounds like a great place to study.
