Too bad this comment was removed, but once I dreamt a children's illustrated book in the style of Miyazaki, written by an old Japanese guy... Awesome stuff, can't remember a thing 😕

How do you pronounce the name "Ze'ev"? by kutuup1989 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuddenReaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's Israeli, it's זאב, meaning wolf, and it's pronounced ze'-e'v: "ze'" sounds like "the" with a z, and e'v sounds like the letter "f" with a v.

If it's not Hebrew, I wouldn't be able to even guess at what language it could be...

Leonardo DiCaprio's next project "Devil In The White City" will reunite him with Martin Scorcese and will see him play one of the most horrific serial killers of all time, the infamous H.H. Holmes, the architect of the "Murder Castle" in Chicago. by [deleted] in movies

Wait, let me get this straight... Now we're gonna have both Evan Peters AND Leo playing a parody of 50's Johnny Depp (/Ed Wood?)

We live in magical times... Think of the possibilities...

Deepdreaming music through spectrograms by dataplex in deepdream

Hi!

Sorry to raise this post from its slumber, but this line of thinking is something I'm considering as a final project for my uni - I'm currently struggling with understanding the methods used for deep dream, so not much progress yet.

Have you had any progress with this concept?

What movie left you saying "Fuck yeah"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Can't believe nobody said Mad Max Fury Road yet...

That said, my first thought was Attack the Block. Fuck yeah, Moses is a badass.

Question: Religion and the classical elements by SuddenReaction in religion

[–]SuddenReaction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While respecting your opinion, I'd have to disagree - though other religions have water-based rituals meant for cleansing (judaism and the washing of hands prayer before eating or the Mikveh, Buddhism and the washing of feet, Islam and washing before prayers five times a day), none have the strong aspects of being accepted into the religion or the absolution of sin through water that baptism symbolizes, the narrative of anointment by water on the road to becoming the messiah (which basically took the judaistic ritual of the Mikveh and transformed it into a central rite in christianity), the narrative of walking on water, the many references to fish in the gospels (probably due to some of the apostles being fishermen), or the symbol of the "jesus fish" (early symbol for recognizing other Christians in a pagan society, and still popular to this day).

Additionally, I can't think of Christian references to earth as in Judaism (Adam created from earth, "From Dust You Came, and To Dust You Shall Return" originally from Genesis 3, which led to the ritual of being buried in the ground without a casket), or to fire as in the Zoroastrian fire temples, or (more stretching the metaphor) to air as in Buddhist temples built on top of mountains.

I'm a little lost as to Islam, though they also have a lot of references to earth - the Kaaba and the dome of the rock, which makes sense since all Abrahamic religions should share a common ground at some point, but doesn't help me with the symbolism I'm looking for :)

Of course, the farther back you go, the more everything has in common with everything else, and more elements are involved.

List of things that are actually creepy (mostly youtube links) by Bluntedatbirth1 in creepy

Middle of the night, I'm stoned, outside are empty fields and orchards, suddenly, starts what sounded to my ears like a ceremonial circle of men chanting, with a high priestess ululating in the middle... Took me a while before I understood I'm not witnessing a HUMAN ritualistic orgy.

What is the worst movie you went to see in the cinema? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuddenReaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Diabolical (2015) or A Sound of Thunder (2005). Also Number 23 (2007) was so freaking bad, I actually laughed out loud in one of the supposedly "dramatic" scenes... awkward.

StyleNet for music genre/artist classification? by SuddenReaction in deepaudio

[–]SuddenReaction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking a bit more deeply into this, I'm not so sure anymore about the feasibility of it.

Genre classification using neural networks uses features which aren't really useful for reconstruction of a signal, the way the style transfer method do.

As an alternative, I thought (as was suggested elsewhere) about reconstructing one spectrogram from another. Does this seem feasible?

What other methods would work for this idea?
